Hi Pippo,

Can you provide some screen capture of the booting process of the OTC client
where exactly it stops with the error. Could give a cle as what to look for.

Hi,

Could anybody point me in the right direction to find the network requirements
for OTC to work correctly.

Specifically I am having a problem in a new installation where the client hangs
while booting on "mounting root file system" and have been advised that this is
probably a networking problem but I don't know what areas of my network to
check.

Pippo

Re: [openthinclient-user] Boot Problem

2013-01-18 Thread Jan Magnusson
Pippo,

Have you looked at the OTC Server logs ? Does the client requests reach it at
all ?

I don't know, but just a guess: might the MAC address be influenced by the
transfer of the client from the office environment to production ? Are there
any PXE clients pending in the OTC Server Manager ?

Re: [openthinclient-user] No sound on OTC

2013-01-18 Thread Jan Magnusson
Hi Brett,

There must be some misunderstanding on what OTC is supposed to accomplish.

It's basically only a boot server, not a thin client server. It boots your old
diskless pcs over the network with a Linux (some ancient Ubuntu 6.04 I think)
version. Then you connect to some separate client server.

You don't need the whole OTC if you got all your clients already running HP
Thinconnect.

Subject: [openthinclient-user] No sound on OTC

I am trying to get the sound to work on OTC. I see quite a few posts, very few
resolutions. I previously used 2x TCS, but they have dropped support for that
product and I have no need for application publishing or the more substantial
cost. .

I have installed OTC Server on a Windows Server 2012 HP Proliant G4 and all
seems good, except audio. Sound plays fine from a Win 7 machine RDP to the
server, just not on an OTCclient. The client machines are a mix of old pc's
with a number of Dell GX260's and HP t5520 Thin Clients running HP Thinconnect.
None of them play audio from the remote server.

We do need audio for training videos and they all require digital certificates
for each user account on the server. So, I could install one computer just for
watching training videos and have Win OS on it just to remote to the Server and
play training, but I would rather users be able to have audio.

I've read mixed reports on support for sound with OTC. I have enabled sound in
the rdesktop application settings and on the Win server. When playing audio the
mixer on the server shows audio modulation.

So, is it possible to play audio with our setup? If so, where should I look for
the problem? Should I purchase TC hardware instead of old pc's? What we have
played audio with 2X TCS, but as mentioned, we don't have that option now.

Thanks for the help.

Re: [openthinclient-user] thin client hardware recommendation

2012-12-13 Thread Jan Magnusson
Hi,

I don't think there is any reason to experiment: the Ubuntu 6.10 or whatever
OTC is based on doesn't afaik support ARM processor architectures, it's an
Intel-x86-only-thing.

I can't really even see any too much reason for OTC to support something like
Raspberry pi as it's a very homogenous environment: you just make your
preferred setup on a SD card and easily copy and distribute SD cards even in
the thousands if so wished. Have a look at http://rpitc.blogspot.com/, there is
what yo need for the RPi.

The REALLY GREAT THING with OTC for us at least is that in a heterogenous
environment with a lot of DIFFERENT old pc:s you don't need to
install/configure/update each and every one of them saparately, but get them
all up and running in no time at all.

Dear Marcus,
dear User,

a little late, but here nonetheless my answer and some words in general.

Yes, OTC is still in development. Those of you who're reading the changelogs in
our (!) repository will know, that there is a lot of activity in it. A new
major release is comming up this year.

Sure, the installer you can find on sourceforge is quite old, but it is just
the installer. Keep in mind, that openthinclient has its own package management
inside.
To make it short, the installer did not change - but you can get a lot of
updates from our own repos.

Please consider to read:

http://archive.openthinclient.org/openthinclient/v1/manager-experimental/base.changelog

New version comming up soon!

Regards,

Jörn
