Yes I know. Its a left over from the original patch author (overlooked
during review). We'll change it one day :-)

FYI:

Nice! Makings the configs more intelligent is something we lack on windows.

"Windows startup" is misleading, though, and should be changed to "Log
into Windows" or similar.

"Windows startup" says that it is started when Windows starts and
could be misinterpreted as also starting a VPN connection when Windows
starts up, especially if (now or in the future), the GUI can connect
to a VPN when launched.

FYI:

A) Tunnelblick is launched automatically after it is installed.

B) Tunnelblick launches on login if it was running when the user last
logged out.

C) Tunnelblick has a separate setting for each configuration to
"Connect when system starts", "Connect when Tunnelblick launches", or
"Connect manually".

Yes, no auto-connect, just the launch the GUI on login and stay as a tray
application.

To toggle this click the checkbox at: GUI settings->General->Launch on
Windows startup (or its translated string) -- though it says "Windows
startup" its actually launched on user login...

I believe he was saying that it would never autoconnect, but only that the
gui would launch. (as a side note, I will throw in my $.02 that I think
this is definitely a good choice. I can't think of a situation in which I
wouldn't want the gui to autostart, and I'm pretty sure that if there
exists such a situation, the person in it would probably be able to figure
out how to un-enable that autostart)

I just reread the suggestion and +1.
I think 99% of those who start the GUI want to connect right after that.

I assume this would only autoconnect if there was only 1 config to use,
otherwise the software might launch the wrong VPN.

"I agree with Selva", so I saw no need to speak up :-)

My vote: enable by default, user can unselect during install if needed.

Rationale: a lay user would want this on and would not normally change any
defaults on the installer, an advanced user will anyway diligently go
through every tick mark and select/unselect as they like.

[Openvpn-users] Launching OpenVPN-GUI automatically on user login?

2016-11-28 Thread Samuli Seppänen
Hi,

There is a PR that makes OpenVPN-GUI launch automatically when any user
logs in:

No OpenVPN connections are started, of course, but the OpenVPN-GUI tray
application will launch. Each user will be able to opt-out of this
behavior in OpenVPN-GUI preferences

My question is: is it reasonable to enable this by default in the
installer. Or should this be opt-in at install time?
