Yes, that's correct. Of course, there is significant overhead in
cherry-picking changes, so it's in your interest to complete as many bug
fixes as possible before you branch.

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] Project proposals for adding analytics to OPNFV

2017-02-27 Thread Donald Hunter (donaldh)
Hi Yujun,

Yes, the Bamboo project’s goal is to use a PNDA instance to sink data from the
various OPNFV testing projects. The first phase would involve getting a PNDA
instance deployed and then integrating data from sources such as QTIP.

The next step for us is to solicit input from project leads and hopefully
encourage people like yourself to get involved. So your email is very timely.
If you’d like to add your name to the contributors on the project proposal,
that would be fantastic:
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/bamboo/Bamboo+Project+Proposal

As QTIP PTL, I am particularly interested in Bamboo project.

If I understand it correctly, it could be used to develop or deploy (not sure
about the way of integration yet) the benchmark hub in QTIP architecture[1].

The benchmark hub is supposed to be a sink of all data produced by QTIP.

Hi OPNFV,

over the past few weeks we’ve distilled two proposals to add analytics and more
diagnostic capabilities to OPNFV and OPNFV scenarios. We’ve published the two
new project proposals on the wiki:

• Bamboo: https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/bamboo/Bamboo+Project+Proposal

• VINA: https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/vina/VINA+Project+Proposal

Bamboo is to introduce the analytics infrastructure provided by PNDA.io to
OPNFV. VINA is to offer discovery and system health status for VIMs. Both
projects are to work and in hand and are expected to integrate with both
Barometer, VES, Qtip, etc. – as well as integrate with the testresults
post-processing that we already do.

We’re hoping for a discussion in the technical community meeting on Feb/23, and
are also asking for an official TSC review post the technical community review.
Target would be the TSC call on March/7.

Your thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks much, Frank

[opnfv-tech-discuss] [JOID] Can JOID Installer run in a VM?

2017-02-27 Thread SULLIVAN, BRYAN L
Hi Narinder and other JOID project members:

In the Infra call today I took the action to check with you whether the JOID
installer can be run in a VM on the jumphost. This is a goal of the Infra team
so we can help ensure some strategic things for CI/CD:

- Jumphosts are stable, i.e. installers do not pollute the jumphost
(sometimes resulting in need to redeploy the jumphost)

- Jumphosts are consistent, e.g. we can use a common Jumphost host OS
(e.g. Ubuntu) and run all installer ISOs in VMs on the jumphost

- We can migrate to dynamic POD allocation, given the two capabilities
above

This is a key need of development lab users also, who probably don't have the
automated tools for POD deployment such as OPNFV CI/CD uses, and who can spend
a lot of time having to reinstall jumphosts to switch between OPNFV distros.

Does JOID support the installer ISO being booted:

1) in a libvirt (qemu+kvm) VM

2) on a generic jumphost (i.e. Ubuntu or Centos)

 (but which
didn't happen apart from the Models project demos)

*   updated Models
tests: vHello_Tacker,
vHello_3Node, vLamp, vHello_Cloudify (updated to Aria if possible)

The patch I mentioned on the call (minutes:
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/models/Models+Meetings)
to the vHello_Tacker.sh script and related utilities has been merged:
https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/27355/

You should be able to run this test on a devstack environment (OPNFV
environment tests are pending). Some notes on that are included in the script
header. Here are the other notes from the call about it:
· Devstack environment expectations
· stable/newton branch deployed
· Host config recommendations: i7 class CPU, 8-core, 16GB RAM, min
500GB disk
· If running devstack in a VM: use VM parameters 8GB RAM, 20GB disk, 2
cores, and base the Devstack install on a Newton-supporting OS version e.g.
Ubuntu Xenial
· The local.conf I use has been merged as part of the patch:
https://git.opnfv.org/models/tree/tests/utils/devstack/local.conf
· The vHello_Tacker.sh test has been updated to put the minimum
expectations on the host from which you run the test (e.g. no Openstack python
clients (OSC) need to be installed - all Openstack commands are executed in the
docker container in which Tacker is running). If you want to run Openstack
commands directly, you can use the commands:
· sudo docker attach tacker
· source /tmp/tacker/admin-openrc.sh (needs to be run only the first
time you attach)
· run OSC commands. The clients pre-installed are
python-openstackclient and python-neutronclient only, You can install others,
just note that you may need to clone/checkout the stable/newton version, and
follow the procedure to install as shown in the install_client function of the
tacker-setup.sh script
(https://git.opnfv.org/models/tree/tests/utils/tacker-setup.sh)
· You can also run tests via the new utility I created to setup an
OSC-based test environment using

[opnfv-tech-discuss] yardstick: failed to deploy stack

2017-02-27 Thread divya.na...@wipro.com
Hi,

We are facing issue in running yardstick test cases,
i.e error: failed to deploy stack: ' can't be decoded'
Please find the attached file for more details about test case
execution.
have exported EXTERNAL_NETWORK and keystone

heat service is working fine with manual commands ( i.e heat stack-create -f

when debugged and modified orchestrator heat.py code as below, it worked, is
this known issue?

 def _get_heat_client(self):
 """returns a heat client instance"""

 if self._heat_client is None:

Team,

I'd like to request that the PTLs for projects participating in Danube respond
to the following questions, designed to assess compliance with MS6.

...FB: FDS does feature development (upstream), system integration and test –
hence is a bit hard to fit into the below categories. Still, please find
answers inline where they “kind of” fit.
Feature Projects
1. Please provide a list of commits for the following:
a. Enabling testing for your project in the Functest repo (or other test
framework repo if you are not using functest)
b. Test case implementation in your project repo.
...FB: Tests were directly added to FuncTest for security groups testing:
https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/28883/
2. Please indicate whether the scenarios with which your project is
integrated are visible on the Functest dashboard. If not, why?
...FB: The above patch isn’t merged yet.
Test Framework Projects
1. Please provide a list of commits for your self-validation tests.
Preliminary Documentation Requirement
1. Please provide a link to the preliminary documentation for your project.
...FB: See
https://git.opnfv.org/fds/tree/docs/scenarios/os-odl_l2-fdio-ha
https://git.opnfv.org/fds/tree/docs/scenarios/os-odl_l3-fdio-noha

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Morgan,

Currently, two stress testcases are under review for integrating into community
CI pipeline.

  *   Gerrit: https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/28671/

 * one testcase is the performance life-cyle for ping test while
increasing the user number in parallel
 * the other is the baseline test for dataplane traffic while increate
the data size for a VM pair
One issue is that, we use kibana to show the results. However, in the currently
Bottlenecks CI process, the docker for kibana is set up in community CI POD.
That is, no public access to the kibana. Could you gives us some suggestions or
help on how to make the testing results and graphs publicly accessible?
regarding Kibana we decided to outsource the work to Bitergia (already in
charge of code and infra reporting)
but they will be able to start working in H2 so it will be short for Danube
my reco would be to push your results in the database in the details sections
of the testcase (so maybe create the testcase if it is not already the case)
you can copy/paster the preformated dataset you used for Kibana in local
so when ready, Bitergia could consume it directly through the test API and
display it in https://opnfv.biterg.io

as the dataset is already kibana compatible, it could be one of the first
implementation for bitergia
we initiated a wiki page to discuss with bitergia and give some examples, see
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/testing/Result+alignment+for+ELK+post-processing

it is a bit strange to have an intermediate Kibana => test results => kibana
but then everything is centralized (projects, cases, results)
and we plan to use also the DB to build a test case catalog...so a central
point is needed

so that would be my option 1
option 2 would be the use of a Kibana on testresults.opnfv.org as we use to
have but we got license issues for addons (also a reason we prefered to
ousource this part of the work)

Thanks,
Gabriel

主题: [OPNFV] Danube testing group priorities status

Hi,

I recently sent a mail to Heather to give my view of the testing group
priorities for Danube.

As mentioned in the mail, it was only my view and it was not consolidated => I
added a slot for the next weekly meeting.

I will not be able to attend (I will be off from the 15th to the 22)

Heather asked for a global statement on this. My suggestion would be something
like:

"The testing working group aimed to create more consistency accross the
different test projects and extend the testing scope for Danube. The
consistency deals with the creation of commons such as an umbrella
documentation, a web landing page giving the scenario status at glance and a
test case catalogue. The testing working group also defined stress tests to be
run on the Danube solution in addition of the functional and qualification
tests already provided."
Feel free to comment/modify/suggest somehting else as a statement to Heather on
the behalf of the testing group

Regargind the status

1) Test consolidation
  - release testing landing page has been created but still work to do for a
full integration (back-end/API + add scenario reporting from test project at
the end of CI)
=> my estimation 50% chance to be ready for Danube on the 22 of March but not
blocking for the release and could be achieved once we have something more
stable + 1 or 2 weeks
@Serena: do you think we could create the scenario (I think so) and push
results ater CI run now?

When it is OK on Functest (beta test) we could ask the other test project to
use the API tu update the status

  - catalogue: the DB/test API is ready => work in progress on the front end
=> my estimation 70% for a basic catalogue (display cases/projects), 30% for
the mechanism to customize test list

@jack, Rex: what is you view on this estimation

If nothing has been already started for th

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [OVSNFV] logging issues for Priority Data Path

2017-02-27 Thread O Mahony, Billy
Hi Chunghan,

When I started the priority path testing I was using a Phy-Virtual-Phy scenario
(traffic ingressing via a physical NIC then routed to a VM which looped the
traffic back on another vhostuser interface and out a different physical NIC
back to the traffic generator).

This particular scenario was showing no improvement in latency characteristics
for the priority-traffic. So while investigating I added some periodic debug
trace which showed the distribution of reads from the ingress nic in terms of
packet size. This extra debug caused no difference in maximum throughput. So
when I moved to a simpler Phy-Phy scenario I kept the debug trace.

However as it turned out while the debug trace had no effect on throughput or
latency in the PVP case it did have an effect in the Phy-phy case. So removing
the trace showed that using a rx queue on the NIC for the priority traffic did
indeed improve latency for the prioritized traffic. This is the ‘logging issue’
referred to.

Hope that helps - I can talk about this more on the call today if you need more
info.

Regards,
/Billy

Hi Billy,

I didn’t understand the logging issues clearly.
Could you explain the issues ?

The original sentence is as follow.

14:37:05 #info However, logging issues caused test discrepancies.
This has been resolved
