it's up and running now. i followed this
https://www.torproject.org/docs/rpms.html.en
but my problem is it never got the EXIT status.
what could be the problem? i used the same torrc config at home and my
home node read as both VALID and EXIT
i also noticed in the logs this DNS hijacking warning.

I prefer Ubuntu-server, but Debian is as simple.
Please have a look at: https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian

But beware - on a vps you should reduce the BandwidthRate/BandwidthBurst
 to an appropriate value!

 But also see
 https://wiki.torproject.org/noreply/TheOnionRouter/TorFAQ#VServer

If you get one that's too cheap, it might be so cheap because they're
lying to you about actually providing a server environment big enough
to run programs like Tor. Many VPS providers get away with this bait
and switch approach because most of their customers don't actually use
the VPS for much, so they never notice that it's artificially crippled.

If tor finds that your provider is hijacking name server queries, then
it is likely to refuse to operate as an exit and will publish discriptors
containing a rejection of all ports as an exit policy.

If you're looking for a truly easy way to get started, I'd like to
recommend you take a look at PC-BSD 8.0 (see www.pcbsd.org). It seems
to take most people, beginners included, about 20 minutes to install and
get running. A couple of days ago, a new book by Dru Lavigne was announced
on the freebsd-announce list. I'll try to forward you a copy of the
announcement off this list.
