Cyril, We tried opening a DB that had been run on 32 the bit executables under HP-UX 10.20 with Oracle 64 bit executables on HP-UX 11.0. We received about 8 ORA-00600 errors each with 5 to 8 parameters reported. The folks at OTS told us what we had done in about 2 minutes just from the error messages. Therefore I think this is a "common" error that a bunch of us are making. Their suggestion was to export the DB in 32 bit mode, recreate it in 64 bit and run the import. How to wrap old sqlplus reports with Java and output html
DBA's developers, We have several reports written in sqlplus with break on statements, calculations, etc. The Java guys are looking for an Oracle tool set or method to wrap the sql in a servlett and produce output in html without re-inventing the reports. They don't want to use 9iAS/Portal if possible. Any suggestions sqlj, XML, etc... Robert, I view life as a series of choices and consequences (yeah I know somewhat depressing). Therefore, If you voted and voted for someone other than Mr Bush, you can complain about him. I voted for Gore, so I do complain yes he is pretty stupid, but then his father was also so what do you want. As for the people, Presidents are elected more by money than anything else, so I don't really blame the people (BTW: Mr Bush lost the popular election). As for the rest of it, you chose to be what you are. If that choice is no longer appropriate then get up and change it. I spend 15 years as an electronics tech decided 16 years ago to change that. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice too!! At any rate, we all need a chance to let off steam. I do so regularly as can be attested to by the archery target in my back yard. During that time we had several times that we had power outages (mostly scheduled due to construction nearby). Since we didn't know about it, it was never shut down gracefully and always came back up fine. I know it came back fine because one day we were looking around the computer room and saw it and tried to figure out who used this box. So we powered it off and had a phone call within 30 minutes. There was a job that ftp'd a file to this box every 15 minutes from one of out HPUX boxes and then someone would "on-demand" pick up that file from an outside source. When the ftp from the HPUX box failed, an IT Analyst would get notified. We had to hack /etc/passwd to reset root's password. The moral of the story is that with no patches, no maintenance and absolutely no TLC, this box was more reliable than the NT boxes running IIS or the Netware file servers. Sorry to bother you, i was using RMAN to backup to disk for over 1 year, but we need to backup to tape, so, i had to install Legato. I just finished installing Oracle8.0.6 on a SUN SPARC ULTRA 5. The install cd is : Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Release 8.0.6.0.1 After the install I query v$version and I notice that I have version 8.0.6.0.0 Where do I find the patch on the CD (or the local Oracle Home Directory) to bring it from 8.0.6.0.0 to 8.0.6.0.1 ? Also I have executed .profile of Oracle user
in the beginning of command. The commands written

Do not belive BUSH and your army goverment so much
right now, I understand US people also just belive TV or news. The news always controlled by goverment or service for the goverment. This fact is for sure that US is high-handed and arbitrary. US army fly to all over the world and control all the world. I hate this but I feel so frustrated that US army is No.1 in this world and all over the world can not even say a "NO" to US. Right now, I know many US people do not understand Chinese, Chinese do love peace very much. Many things, these days, China are better than US now. You should go and have a look in China. Do not be so stupid and arbitrary. Do not belive BUSH and your army goverment so much. When the army is so good, they want to invade China or some other coutries. I hate China does not have good people rights. But I hate US is so impolite when they know they will win on every army fight. What I have forcasted are becoming true now. When BUSH was selected as president. I forcasted he would make many bad things and use his army. Today I forcast he will invade China more and put all Chinese in extreme misery. He will because he is the people who care too much about army...He do not care about high-tech, you are losing your good salary now...You have lose you stock options. Just one more fact, yesterday I watched the TV, the announcer used intimidatory voice that made very unhappy, "fuck you", I growl to the TV. Just because you have the No.1 army so you can do all the things? Sorry for this post because it is not about ORACLE. You're probably ok - this is more likely a bug in 8.1.6 (there are many which cause 7445's and 600's). i migrated 10 oracle 7.3 to 8.1.6 and no need to do al that.. i only run ODMA, and checked an Oracle documentation out . It took me 40minutes to migrate, becaz Odma only create a new oracle 8 dictionary, and then populates the old v7 dict to the new v8 dict. If you have v7 backup, you could try to migrate the way i did. I had no problems. Gilberto, We got very similar errors when upgrading from 8.0.4 to 8.1.5 and then to 8.1.7. In both cases, we opened a TAR with Oracle and they asked us to turn off the star_transformation_enabled init.ora parameter as a workaround. We did and it made our errors go away. However, this is not an acceptable work-around for us since our design is pretty much based on the star query layout for our 120 Gig data warehouse. When we were on 8.1.5 they told us we had to go to 8.1.7. Now that we are on 8.1.7, that fixed our problems but we have new similar ones with very similar messages. We opened a new TAR with Oracle and they recommended the same workaround with turning off star transformation or applying the 8.1.7.1 patch set. That is what we are in the process of doing now. If I were you, I would open a TAR with Oracle and submit your error message and trace files. Are you using partitioning? Do you have star_transformation_enabled set to true in your init.ora file? Input Cardinalities into dictionary for Optimizer Behaviour
To obtain a good analysis of a SQL statement especially in a new development environment, based on the environment that it is to be deployed on, it would good to sometime reflect/simulate the production volume. Is there a way to input table cardinalities directly into the data dictionary so that the Optimizer could be made to act like in production. I am aware that if this is was an environment with good cardinalities, these values could be exported and imported into another environment. My question is this possible from scratch?
