Re: ORA-00904

2001-05-26 Thread Joseph S. Testa

dealt with that one this week on aix platform.

a couple of things can cause it.

1. an upgrade or patch and then forget to run catalog, catproc,
catrep(if ur using replication), utlirp.

2. using a version of export that is not compatible with the
database(no one flame me for this, it was on metalink).

if you want moer into on the error, let me know, i'll go and get the doc
id from metalink so you can look it up.

Hi, Joe,

'an upgrade or patch and then forget to run catalog, catproc,
catrep(if ur using replication), utlirp.'

Do you recommend to run catalog, catproc, catrep, and utlirp?

I looked up a doc in Metalink and couldn't resolve my problem. Perhaps I
looked up the incorrect one. Please send me info if you will.

Thank you.

The ORA-00904 is resolved. I think the 'ALTER SYSTEM FLUSH SHARED_POOL'

OTN Tracks?

2001-05-26 Thread Don Granaman

Is there any particular advantage, other than the obvious
(disk space, download speed, install from CD(s) vs install from
hard drive, etc) to subscribing to an OTN track over either:

1) Downloading off of OTN ... or ...
2) Ordering the trial CDs from Oracle Store
?

In particular, does software installed from OTN downloads
or trial CDs actually expire after 30 days? (They didn't in the
past, but its been a while...). How often are updates sent out?

I am quite skeptical of paying $200 per OTN track. I was a
victim of the now long defunct Oracle Developer Programme!
After I paid $$$ for an ODP subscription, ODP just
disappeared - no web site, telephone disconnected, etc.

RE: historical data

2001-05-26 Thread Oriole

Chris Spence was kind enough to mention PDQout in his response
to this question and the debate since then seems to have revolved
around whether exp/imp will still be around to reload archive data.
There can be no debate with PDQout however. It creates flat files
which can be reloaded with sqlldr (compare the speed of that with
the speed of imp), or any other bulk loader. So you can be sure
that you can reload into Oracle or into any other database, at any
time in the future. Additionally, as PDQout makes use of the
Oracle Call Interface, it can work across SQL*Net or download a
view, saving a lot of processing when preparing data for a datamart.
Sorry for the plug but what would you have done :-)
Anyway to assuage your anger, you can get a FREE version of
PDQout from our website, which will allow the downloading of
tables of up to 250k rows.
Oh! Just one thing, that version can't download views,
we're not that stupid :-)
