Just a guess - but you
might need to create / configure a provider for forms - also you might check
your display setting in the conf file.

This appears to be standard appearance. The
browser is not trying to display anything else. All you have done after you
press the OK is close the form. After forms closes it simply keeps the gray box
there.

This is because you have the Applet loaded and that grey portion is the applet portion whose height and width is been defined in your dynamic HTML file generated by Forms servlet. This applet is used to talk to the Forms and displays them on the browser and after pressing the OK button, you are exited from the TEST.FMX and so the applet stays

Oracle 9iAS Rel.1 upgrade to 9iAS Rel.2

Has anyone upgraded from 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2 to the new Release 2?
Is there a migration path or should you start from scratch

any Portal stuff is nigh on impossible. Any other comments.

Question on Oracle 9iAS and Oracle 6i/9i tools...

2002-08-28 Thread Loughmiller, Greg

We will be building an environment (multiple hosts and environments) that
will be used for reporting. And we will be using the Oracle suite of
products (9iAS, iDS). I'm tasked with determining some of the architecture
of the environment. And primarily for the Oracle 9i environment used as a
repository and some of the 9iAS infrastructure... And having not had the
time to play in the sand box - I need to make some blind assumptions. But
was hoping that folks on the list could offer some suggestions...

For example-how large of a repository is typically required for the Oracle
MetaData used for the reports? I assume that it depends on the number of
reports,etc.. But is there any rule of thumb(you know-like a swag) that
you all have used in sizing the environment? What about other file system
space requirements to consider??? For example-one of the tasks will be that
the reports will be executed the evening before-and the output would be
saved.. Will this require additional disk space as part of the 9iAS
implementation?
What typical space and file system setup have you all seen as best
practices for the 9iAS environment?

I know, I know - read the #$$^%$#$%# manual... But unfortunately-there is a
rather tight deadline with not much lead time.. So I would appreciate any
tips that you could offer from your experience in the implementation of this
suite of tools...

Thanks in advance!

Oracle 9iAS Rel.2 requires OID

2002-06-06 Thread Ben

Hi

Just browsing through the documentation for 9iAS 9.0.2 and I am a bit
surprised.
It looks as though you have to install the so called Infrastructure
(SingleSignOn,
Oracle Internet Directory and a metadata repository) if you want to use
Portal
or Discoverer. If you are just running web apps then you don't need the
Infrastructure.
We are using 9iAS R1 for web apps and taking a look at Portal and
Discoverer.
But if they require the OID then I doubt we will use them. Oracle appears to
be forcing you to become an all-Oracle shop. Why am I surprised?

Ben

RE: Oracle 9iAS Rel.2 requires OID

2002-06-06 Thread Jesse, Rich

Hmmm...but with all the problems we've been having with OiD and replication
(BUG 2369181 was opened for us), I don't forsee us being able to use it.

Interestingly enough, my co-worker has been able to get Oracle to use
iPlanet and OpenLDAP for names resolution. It's a bit of a hack, since
Oracle doesn't follow standard LDIF rules (and as a sidenote, doesn't
enforce referential integrity because they allow an attribute to be deleted
even if it's in use!), but it seems to work great.

2002-03-04 Thread hemantchitale

Well. you could look at Note 134284.1 on MetaLink.
I've never tried iAS with anything other than Oracle's Apache distribution
so I can't say if this document suffices.
[You could also look at Note 132466.1 on the Oracle Plug-In for IIS to
run Oracle PLSQL applications through IIS. Again, I've not done it].

Rick,

Why do you ask? At a former employer, we were being pressured to use a
different
webserver for entirely different reasons. We eventually concluded that
the ones asking
the question were technically impaired and began ignoring them.

While I believe that you can do this, Oracle won't support your iAS
installation if you do.

It's a fair amount of work to iAS setup and running the way you want
without trying to give it
a heart transplant in the process. Doing so will likely also require
regular infusions
anti-rejection drugs ( your time ).

9iAS is a packaging/marketing conglomeration of at least 6

Exactly which piece of 9iAS are you concerned about?

If so which ones and are they supported by Oracle?

RE: Does Oracle 9iAS only run on Apache?

2002-03-01 Thread Boivin, Patrice J

Hear, hear is something members of parliament say in the House of Commons in
the UK and in Canada when they agree with a point someone else said. They
also hit their desks, which sometimes wakes up other members of parliament.

My point was that iAS has many components, it is not straightforward to set
up and administer, trying to strip out components to make iAS work with
alternative configurations is not something I would recommend, as someone
who administers two iAS 1.0.2.2. servers on NT. I don't know about the
later versions, but 1.0.2.2. still uses 806 forms and reports, for example.
I have no idea why Forms and Reports is so far behind the rdbms version.

Administering iAS can quickly become a full-time job, if you really want to
get into it.

I assume most DBAs have other things to do with their time than try to make
non-standard configurations work.

No need for acerbic rhetoric, there is an OT list for that.

Have a good weekend, try to relax, life is too short.

Hi All,

Will Oracle 9iAS run on other servers other than Apache? If so which ones
and are they supported by Oracle?
Does anyone have any experience running on other servers? success/failure
stories.

Thanks
Rick

The employer uses IIS and does not want to support other servers. If Oracle
9iAS is not supported then this is the end of the question and end of
thread.

in my work with 9iAS, WWS told me that they would not support any
configuration that did not use the version of apache included with the
9iAS distribution. including newer versions of apache, or newer
versions of the mods.

now i also know that there have been people who have it working with IIS.

FYI: Buffer Overflow in Oracle 9iAS

2001-12-20 Thread Jared . Still

NGSSoftware Insight Security Research Advisory

Name:Oracle PL/SQL Apache Module
Systems Affected: Oracle 9iAS
Platforms: Sun SPARC Solaris 2.6
   MS Windows NT/2000 Server
   HP-UX 11.0/32-bit
Severity: High Risk
Vendor URL: http://www.oracle.com/
Author: David Litchfield ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Date: 20th December 2001
Advisory number: #NISR20122001

Description
***
The web service with Oracle 9iAS is powered by Apache and provides many
application environmentswith which to offer services from the site. These
include SOAP, PL/SQL, XSQL and JSP. Two security issues exists in the
PL/SQL
Apache module - one a buffer overrun vulnerability and the second a
directory traversal issue. The directory traversal issue affects only
Windows NT/2000.

Details
***
The PL/SQL module exists to allow remote users to call procedures exported
by a PL/SQL package stored in the database server. As part of the
functionality offered by the PL/SQL module it is possible to remotely
administer the Database Access Descriptors and from here access help pages.

Normally, access to the /admin_/ pages is restricted - a UserID and
password
are required but not for the help pages however. A buffer overrun
vulnerability exists in the module whereby a request for an overly long
help
page will cause the overflow overwriting the saved return address on the
stack. By overwriting this saved return address with an address that
contains a call esp or jmp esp instruction a potential attack would
land
into the user-supplied buffer and any computer code in the buffer would be
executed.

On Windows 2000/NT the apache process is running is the security context of
the SYSTEM account by default so any code executed would do so without
inhibition and an attacker could gain complete control over this system
remotely.

The second issue relates to a double URL decoding problem that allows
attackers to make a special request for a help file and break outside of
the web root.

Fix Information
***
NGSSoftware alerted Oracle to these problems on the 18th of November who
responded quickly with a patch. This patch has been available from the
Metalink site (http://metalink.oracle.com) for over a week and both Oracle
and NGSSoftware urge Oracle 9iAS customers to download and install this
patch if they have not already done so. Oracle's advisory on this issue can
be found at http://otn.oracle.com/deploy/security/pdf/modplsql.pdf.

Further to applying the patch it is suggested that the default /admin_
path be changed to something else. To do this edit the wdbsvr.app file
located in the $ORACLE_HOME$\Apache\modplsql\cfg directory. Edit the
adminPath entry.

A check for these issues has been added to Typhon II, of which more
information is available from the NGSSoftware website,
http://www.ngssoftware.com.

Security Alert : Oracle 9iAS Web Cache

2001-10-26 Thread MacGregor, Ian A.

Our security folks just sent me this.

The Federal Computer Incident Response Center
(FedCIRC) and Computer Emergency Response Team/Coordination Center
(CERT/CC) have issued an advisory (FA-2001-29/CA-2001-29) which
discusses a buffer overflow vulnerability with the Oracle9iAS Web
Cache. This vulnerability, discovered by Defcom Labs, is remotely
exploitable on all platforms and allows intruders to execute
arbitrary
code with the privileges of the web cache process or disrupt the
normal
operation of the Web Cache. Intruders may also be able to intercept
and/or modify sensitive data such as credentials and other types of
sensitive information passing through the host running Web Cache.
Finally, the Web Cache can be used as an entry point into the
network,
or the intruder can leverage an existing trust relationship between
Web
Cache and another system to allow the intruder to gain access to the
other system. The entire advisory can be found on the FedCIRC Web
Page
at http://www2.fedcirc.gov/advisories/FA-2001-29.html. (Source:

I thought I had heard that the Oracle Enterprise Manager Tuning Pack
is/was included as part of the Oracle 9iApplication Server bundle.

Out of the two dozen+ CDs I have not yet been able to find any
EOM packs.

If any OEM packs are included, on which CD can it be found?

Yes. It depends on the shell you are using. By default Linux uses the
Bash shell (/bin/bash). To set your environment variables in bash edit
the file ~/.bash_profile and include something like:

ORACLE_BASE=/usr/oraInventory
ORACLE_HOME=/usr/oracle

EXPORT ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_HOME
If you are using the C-shell (/bin/csh), you can edit your ~/.cshrc
file, the syntax is slightly different:

set ORACLE_BASE = (/usr/oraInventory)
set ORACLE_HOME = (/usr/oracle)

If you are not sure which shell you are using, you can find out by typing:

echo $SHELL

also, the "~" thingy is a short hand for your home directory. So if
your user name is "tsharma" ~/.bash_profile and
/home/tsharma/.bash_profile refer to the same file.

Oracle 9iAS and Portal 3.0

2001-04-18 Thread Nancy McCormick

I have installed Oracle 9iAS and am having problems with the Portal 3.0
install. The 9iAS server is Solaris 8 with 9iAS 1.0.2.1. The database
server is Solaris 8 with Oracle 8.1.7. I am very new to Java and Apache so
I hope someone can help steer me in the right direction.

I am using the metalink document 132444.1 "Common Installation Problems with
Portal 3.0 (9IAS)" to help me troubleshoot. My first problem was that the
Java Virtual Machine was not properly installed in the database. I ran
initjvm.sql and then reinstalled Portal 3.0. That took care of the first
set of problems.

When I try to connect to the "Portal Page", "Login Server Page" or the
"Gateway Settings Page" I get a "Page cannot be Displayed" message. So ...

Now I am trying to verify that the Apache Listener and Jserver are set up
correctly. I can access http://machine_ip_address: . This page has the
"HTTP Components" listed. I can access everything on this page but:
  "Jserver Demo" http://machine_ip_address:/servlet/IsItWorking/ and
  "mod_plsql"
http://machine_ip_address:/pls/portal30_sso/portal30_sso.wwsso_app_admin
.ls_login
The document says that if you cannot access the Jserver Demo to verify that
JDK 1.2.2 is installed. In my case it was not, so I downloaded the JDK
1.2.2_07 self extracting binary from Sun and installed it. I changed the
jserv.properties file to point wrapper.bin to the location where JDK 1.2.2
was installed and added 2 wrapper.classpath lines for the dt.jar and
tools.jar. I also modified the PATH variable to have the JDK 1.2.2 location
as the first directory in the list. Then I stopped and started the Apache
listener. I also verified that I can connect from the 9iAS server to the
Database server using sqlplus which was successful. I still cannot access
the Jserv Demo.

I really don't know what to look at next. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Nancy

Oracle 9iAs on Linux intel

2001-04-17 Thread TARUN SHARMA

Hi Everybody,
Did anyone install and work on oracle9iAS on
   Linux intel.
I'm doing it. In my case my 8.1.7 database is on
   a seperate NT machine.
When I installed 9iAS it gave problem in installing two components.
one is database cache and other is portal30. In both cases it asked
for connection to database. While I made some entry in TNSnames.ora
it worked partially for database cache as it failed at 96%. It failed
at updating userlist it gave error ORA-28575 "unable to open RPC
connection for external procedures". And secondly it did not connect to
   database when I install portal30.
How do I solve these problems, is there any way to install the
remaining components again. Moreover, I'm working first time on
Linux so I don't know how to set path and oracle home variables.
permanently. Is there any file like '.bat' in windows which set the
path. Help needed. Also if there is any book for oracle 9i and linux.

ORACLE 9iAS

2001-03-30 Thread Boyan Konstantinov

Hi!
I'm sorry if my question is somewhat irrelevant to the list...
My team has a project concerning Information / e-commerce portal and are
doing a study of application servers and portal frameworks. One of the
solutions we have in mind is Oracle 9iAS with Oracle PDK.
Has anybody got experience with it, and are there some major disadvantages
in using it?
Also, any comments/suggestions are welcome...

Thank you.
