RE: Robert Freeman - RMAN Resources

2002-07-18 Thread Freeman, Robert

The 101 Backup and Recovery book by Oracle Press that Dennis mentioned is
good. I
don't have the book here on my desk, and Amazon for some reason doesn't
mention the authors names on it's web page (need to shout at OP about that
maybe)...

Also there is a O'Reilly RMAN handbook that is out, but it's more for
reference and not
for learning.

Even though it's not about RMAN, and the later versions were not as concise
and full of juicy architectural tidbits, the Oracle8i Backup and Recovery
Handbook by Rama Velpuri is quite good with regards to the Oracle database
internals and recovery.

My new RMAN book just showed up on Amazon a few days ago for pre-sales!!

your foot's caught in a bear trap, you tend to start talkin'
crazy.

Robert,

Wondering if you would mind posting some of the best resources for RMAN that
you have found besides the documentation. I have a request from someone who
is a newbie to track down some info, I would recommend your book if it was
out yet :)

Thanks,
Ethan

Ethan
I'm not Robert, but the newby book he recommended to me is Oracle
Backup & Recovery 101 by Smith and Haisley. About half of it is devoted to
RMAN. Would have saved me a lot of time when I started, but it hadn't been
published then.
