I'm fascinated by the intersection of Origami and book binding/art. There
are of course various book folds that make little pamphlets, etc.

Expanding (heh) on that, a classic example would be "Turkish Map" books,
such as this:

and this:

Or accordion books...or their reverse, which I like more, the flutter book:

Any discussion of origami and book arts, links, etc. are always appreciated!

As someone has kindly pointed out to me, Kevin's website is not what I
listed in my posting of last night; it's
http://www.outsidetheboxstudio.com. Lotta cool stuff.

[Origami] Diagramming symbols

2013-08-03 Thread Rikki Donachie
I've read the various comments from various people about the design and placing
of various symbols.

There is a very good rule of thumb that should be employed here:

Keep It Simple, Stupid! Show your diagram to someone who is not an expert - do
they understand it?

And, in my opinion, if you have to add written instructions to your diagram -
you haven't diagrammed it properly.

Anyone wishing to diagram clearly should, quite deliberately, try to emulate
Nick Robinson, Robert Lang, Nicholas Terry and, if I may be allowed to blow my
own trumpet, me.

Finally, I have a complete set of symbols that anyone is welcome to have and
use - including my own "Collapse on the Indicated Creases" and "Right About
There" symbols.  I can let you have them for Illustrator4 all the way up to CS4
and as a basic svg. file. Just ask me off list.
