Re: [Origami] Better Kami?
I have the same question. I wish I had the answer! because there is a bunch of kami papers in my drawer, without original envelope, that look much nicer, the color side is fuller, even the texture seems smoother, but I have no idea where I got them. Maybe is from years ago and the quality of the actual ones is not as good? I don’t even want to use them until I know if I can get replacement. For the actual ones, OrigamiUSA’s kami packages look to me much better than the Korean counterpart. Laura > > On Sat, Mar 28, 2020 at 6:35 PM Ian McRobbie wrote: > >> Thanks for the tips, David. Re: [Origami] Better Kami?
Ian, I wasn't talking abut duo paper. The o-shop's nice papers are usually the same color on both sides. Double tissue is something that you make yourself by adhering two sheets of paper together using MC. Please see this video if you want to learn how to make it: https://youtu.be/YFjsxVJhwRw It is quite thin and durable and very cheap. I've folded Kawahata's Dragonfly from it and it was fantastic. It is a huge pain in the butt to make though. David On Sat, Mar 28, 2020 at 6:35 PM Ian McRobbie wrote: > Thanks for the tips, David. Thanks for the tips, David. I've tried a handful of different papers from origami-shop but none of the duo ones. I really like the white/color combo of kami. Is there a consensus about which paper brands create the highest quality kami? -Ian On Thu, Mar 26, 2020, 9:37 AM David W wrote: > Hi Ian, > > I find that most of the papers the Origami Shop sell are tougher than > kami. Re: [Origami] Better Kami?
Hi Ian, I find that most of the papers the Origami Shop sell are tougher than kami. In particular the golden river paper is my favorite and their tissue foil is pretty neat too. They are expensive. Probably the best cheap solution that is durable is double tissue. I found that if I only burnish a crease the first time I make it and burnish to better settle complex sinks and collapses and the rest of the time keep a light touch to the folding, it is much less likely for to fatigue or tear kami and the paper still looks crisp and sharp at the end. [Origami] Better Kami?
Hi all, I love the color variety and availability of kami but I've grown tired of living in fear of it tearing when I fold even intermediate-complexity models. Is there a stronger ready-made alternative to kami? What do you use when you need a duo paper that's tougher than standard kami? Thanks, Ian
