Re: [Origami] Name of these models and their creators?
I sent a message on August 26 asking for the name of two models and of their creators. These are the models: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ZXtvbOtlYacIb-14WBvNogznzaLdAkxeckHHgKrbHpLzNRT51Yd7UwYPh1OFttHe0EIlL0E6RBSuL3yHxVjHTwCW0n2q4qfa-gZJPTF42Gy-KYtzaSQhH_T371Buv_XBvDQCWtYKdw=w2400 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/HX13ob2iEnhKk8QP1f3rGaGyOpkdTZ0v9sO6dKBYftuYt_QRR3bCz9klpvdIihjf8XrPF_l9Za40jqeXmJneTsmlBS-kZB10Y3Bk21QomVY7LPJyJpwgIdLCtIrDRUaGzEAO07J6XA=w2400 A fellow member answered in private and told me that she has seen the one that looks like a pencil holder in Korean publications, but didn't tell me anything more about it. Might someone here own a Korean book that shows this model? If so, would you please tell me what name those it show and who appears as its creator? About the other model, in my previous message I included the following quote: "a variation by Reiko Aso of the Blooming Flower by Taichiro Hasegawa" (quoting Kathy Knapp). I had forgotten to add the source's URL; it's this one: https://www.origami-resource-center.com/3-piece-spinning-top.html Might one of you know if Kathy is right or not? If you guys prefer, you can answer in private to my email address: gerardo(a)neorigami.com Thank you in advance : ) Gerardo gerardo(a)neorigami.com
Re: [Origami] Name of these models and their creators?
A year or two ago I ran across the second spinner and it is, indeed, by Taichiro Hasegawa. It can be made as a two-piece “Lotus Spinner,” which is made to spin by blowing down on it from above, or you can add a third piece, a sort of handle, which you can then spin by hand. I don’t remember where I found it, but the diagrams I have are professionally done and are credited to Joel Stern and Bennett Arnstein with help from John Andrisan. I hope this helps, Judith Powell > On Sep 2, 2019, at 12:22 PM, Gerardo @neorigami.com > wrote: > > I sent a message on August 26 asking for the name of two models and of > their creators. Re: [Origami] Name of these models and their creators?
Dear Gerardo This is my investigation about Origami spining top, at 8 May 2019. https://blog.naver.com/titan101/221532361589 - About the author of Origami spining top(Paper blade, おりがみコマ) day/month/year 5/3/2007 The view that it is a variation of the Himauri brooch(ひまわりのブローチ) by Kyoko Nakahara(中原恭子), which was included in the Moving Origami(動くおりがみ)(1992) by Tomoko Fuse(布施知子) https://gayasan.exblog.jp/5993471/ ※But I think brooches and tops are different areas so should be viewed separately. 1/25/2007 Tanteidan Magazine No.101 - Makoto Yamaguchi(山口真) announced it named 'Makoto koma(マコトコマ)' http://www.origami.gr.jp/Magazine/Index/97-102.html 9/1/2006 There is a record of making a top by three pieces of paper in the NOA monthly origami magazine 374(月刊おりがみ 374号). https://www.fujisan.co.jp/product/1281681367/b/117643/ 8/21/2006 She learned it from the Silver Lessons. http://blog.livedoor.jp/fmtouch/archives/50671367.html 6/8/2006 She saw it at the Center https://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/nyginnofue/diary/200606080001/ - 1. 1st publication is Makotama by Yamaguchi Makoto, 2007-1-25 2. You may think Yamaguchi made it and taught it to others before, but in that sense, there was no mention about the author at all. Re: [Origami] Name of these models and their creators?
Hello. Now that I have some more time, I'm looking again on the topic of the creator of the three-piece spinning top of Japanese origin. This conversation on the mailing list date around September 2019. Everyone that answered told me it was either Makoto Yamaguchi or Taichiro Hasegawa. So I still don't know who the creator is. I'm pretty lost here. I believe the best option is to ask them both directly. So, does anyone here have contact information regarding Mr. Yamaguchi and/or Mr. Hasegawa? If so, would you please ask either one about the authorship of the following spinning top: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/HX13ob2iEnhKk8QP1f3rGaGyOpkdTZ0v9sO6dKBYftuYt_QRR3bCz9klpvdIihjf8XrPF_l9Za40jqeXmJneTsmlBS-kZB10Y3Bk21QomVY7LPJyJpwgIdLCtIrDRUaGzEAO07J6XA=w2400 I'm starting to think this is the only way to solve this mystery. Thank you in advance. PS: What does "Makoto-koma" mean in English? That's one of the names given to this spinning top. -- Gerardo gerardo(a)neorigami.com
Re: [Origami] Name of these models and their creators? (Judith Powell)
Years ago, the late Dorothy Engleman maintained a web site to showcase models taught at our monthly Pacific Ocean Paperfolders (POP). After she died, Gilad Aharoni kindly agreed to continue hosting those pages. You'll find links to the Hasegawa spinner diagrams on this page: https://www.giladorigami.com/SW_popart.html Enjoy!
