Re: Orion crashes JVM

2002-02-28 Thread Juan Fuentes

Thanks to all of you for your help

We have been looking into the system, and we discovered that the system
has an important lack of memory. It's running an Oracle with 100
processes, and orion, with only 256 MB.

We are expecting to have more memory and try again.

Thanks

You can do worse than try Poseidon, available at www.gentleware.com

It doesn't sound like you need all of what something like Together offers
(not to mention the
price!). Along the lines of metamill - I would suggest Enterprise Architect
from Sparx Systems:

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au

I like what Mr. Sparx has done and I like the price. It doesn't wash you car

like Together is supposed to do, but it *does* handle all of the UML
diagrams.

Hey guys, i'd like to hear your comments about this situation.
My team has a well defined development process, for developing j2ee web
apps. This is a lightweight process based on uml diagrams. Our Java IDE is
JDeveloper9i and we are happy about it. We need now to get a uml graphical
modeling tool, which support the analisys/design phases of the development
process. JDeveloper9i doesn't support all the uml diagrams we need. At the
same time we don't want to spend a lot of money with a tool that will
bring
much more than we need(process development, java IDE and so on).
I'm wondering to know what you guys think about it...

 thanks in advance,

 Vinícius

RE: Uploading files to Orion webserver with MultipartParser API

2002-02-28 Thread Justin Crosbie

Hi again,

Hopefully this one will get through (lol) :)

Thanks for the reply Joan, much appreciated.

The faulty browser appears to be:
IE 5.50.4522.1800 SP1
IE 5.50.4807.2300 SP2

We don't use a proxy server, and we always use HTTP 1.1. OS is Windows 2000
and WinNT for server, and Win2000 only for clients. Win2000 is SP2.

The plot has thickened as well, The problem only happens sporadically. I can
no longer reproduce the problem on these versions, they are now uploading
fine!! Nothing has changed, other than we have upgraded IE to version 6 on
other machines on the network.

When it has happened, I have examined the InputStream that is sent to the
server, and when it fails, it appears the HTTP header is being sent as
content as well as a header, so the MultiPart parser does not see a valid
content boundary.

Anyway, I will keep an eye on it to see does it crop up again.

Thanks for the help,
Justin

Just be aware, MS don't number each release of their browser like NS do.
For example, the original release of 5.5 was very buggy, but it's had at
least a couple of Service Packs since then (5.5.1, 5.5.2, if you like).

You need to indicate which service pack and which OS you are running on
before you can really compare IE versions properly.

You may also wish to ensure there are no proxies or anything like that
in the middle between IE and Orion, as they can change the HTTP stream.
Also, have you configured IE to use HTTP 1.0 or 1.1?

Try running the same example code on Tomcat 4.x, with your different
browsers. If that works you can pretty much blame Orion.

ClassCastException with struts

2002-02-28 Thread Lucas Persona

Greetings,

I've been trying Orion and I'm having some problems using multiple
applications (or copy's from the same application)
What I have is one application, used (and modified) by some guys
So, each one has his own web-app and application and a source /
library directory
The problem seems to be with struts, that always throws a
ClassCastException when the second application trys to run
Without using Struts, everything seems to work fine and each
application runs separatly I think that Struts uses some 'common
area configuration' that can only be created and used by one instance
of a struts
Does anyone had the same problem or knows something to help on that?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my English :)
Lucas

Take a look at Mailman ( http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman.html
). While I haven't used it, it's replacing Majordomo in a lot of sites.

Majordomo's been static for years, while Mailman's an active
project. While that could mean that Majordomo's stable and Mailman's chock
full of new bugs, that doesn't seem to be the case from what I've heard.

The installation looks pretty straightforward; you might want to give it a
quick try and see if it'll work for you - the biggest problem might be
trying to use Orion as the web server (but you'd know more about than then
I would g)...

Good Luck!

orion JavaService

2002-02-28 Thread Shal Jain

I have orion running as a service using JNT under win2K. However, I dont
know how to redirect any console output (stdout, stderr) to a logfile
Yes, I am using log4j but in some rare instances I get stack traces dumped
from JVM. Also, prior to connecting to log4J, there
are some diagnostic messages that get printed that I need to see.

If this is not possible using JNT then how about JavaService (another
service wrapper). Has any one gotten orion to run using JavaService.

Holding on to instance of ServletOutputStream

2002-02-28 Thread Nimmons, Buster

I have one servlet which is called by a hidden frame. This sevlet creates a
pushlet object by passing it's ServletOutputStream in the Pushlets
constructor. This pushlet then holds on to this output stream and sends
messages back to the hidden frame when certain server conditions are met
thereby giving me a virtual server callback device. However Orion seems to
call a close on the OutputStream once the doPost method is completed so that
when the pushlet does a write to the Stream and then calls flush() a
NullPointerException is thrown. Below is the stack trace.

java.lang.NullPointerException
void com.evermind[Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for
J2EE].server.http.EvermindHttpServletResponse.commit()
EvermindHttpServletResponse.java:586
void com.evermind[Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for
J2EE].server.http.EvermindServletOutputStream.write(byte[], int, int)
EvermindServletOutputStream.java:126
void
com.sbec.framework.components.pushlet.MsgPushlet.sendMsg(java.lang.String)
MsgPushlet.java:38

We had this Pushlet running wonderfully on Jrun However orion is doing
something with the OutoutStream which is messing everything up.. Does anyone
have any ideas on how to keep this output stream open

Orion doesn't pass stack traces from server to application client?

2002-02-28 Thread Geoff Soutter

Hi there,

I just noticed that the application client that I wrote for Orion is
printing stack traces like so:

javaxejbDuplicateKeyException: Entity already exists
at
comevermind_dnEXCEPTION_ORIGINATES_FROM_THE_REMOTE_SERVER(:1446)
at comevermind_dninvokeMethod(:1369)
at comevermind_ydinvoke(:53)
at __Proxy2my method(Unknown Source)

Which presumably means it is not passing the stack trace information
across from the server to the client

This means I can't see the part of the stack trace on the server, which
is really annoying

Is there a way around this? I'm sure lots of people would have this
problem, so I'm probably just missing something obvious

Cheers

Geoff

re: Couldn't read web-site config file...

2002-02-28 Thread Dale M. Boresz

You didn't mention your orion/config/serverxml file

There must be an entry in serverxml which specifies the location of
your webxml file It would look something like:

web-site path=/applications/mywebapp/webstuff/WEB-INF/webxml /

You may also need another line in this same serverxml file, like this:
application name=mywebapp path=/applications/mywebapp/ /

Then, your orion/config/default-web-sitexml file should probably have
the following line:
web-app application=mywebapp name=webstuff root=/mywebapp /
which, assuming orion is running on your local machine, would allow you
to access your indexjsp file as:
http://localhost/webstuff/indexjsp

Hope this helps

-Dale
