Re: general questions
I know the console has some classpath information, have you tried there? Click on the server node, and then there's a button or something to get to configuring the application and it shows some classpath info I think. Re: general questions
Check the manifest.mf file inside the orion.jar file. That answers at least part of your question: the server starts with the main() method of com.evermind.server.ApplicationServer. RE: General Questions...
In my opinion Orion has a lot of potential. The amount of work that I have been willing to do with it has been constrained solely by the lack of documentation. 95% of the docs that come with Orion have nothing whatsoever to do with Orion, and I already had these other docs. Every other app server, or CORBA ORB, that I have used or evaluated has featured copious documentation related specifically to the server or ORB. Granted, the Orion team does state that the server is still for advanced users. In my estimation the only thing that rules it out for *any* user, including advanced users, is the lack of docs. What's worse, the docs that _do_ exist frequently conflict, or are plain wrong. Seriously, how long would it take to produce an HTML document which is exactly the parallel of the Sun J2EE Developer's Guide (http://www.javasoft.com/j2ee/j2sdkee/techdocs/guides/ejb/html/TOC.html), but for Orion? Maybe a week? That would be immensely useful. No one seems to know how to make JMS work. I've asked the list repeatedly with no success. The coffee maker example won't compile. The documentation is no help. - Original Message - From: "James & Sue Ann Birchfield" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Orion-Interest" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, March 28, 2000 7:40 AM Subject: General Questions... > Would anyone care to express there likes/dislikes about this product? > I have found it very straight forward, stable and fast. Some general questions
By the way, i have some general questions (which i cannot try out myself for other problems, see my other mail): - is it true, that an ear created with the j2ee deployment wizard should be able to be deployed on orion without modifications ? If not, which are these modifications (does this have to do with the application-client.xml ?) ? - may an ear contain more than one ejb-jars (like the j2ee allows) ? - are you planning some visual tools for deployment (like the j2ee deployment wizard e.g.) and/or administration of the server ? I know, the server itself isn't ready yet, but just to get some glance in the eyes..
