RE: Everyones problem
The list actually has a "fool filter" which takes an unsubscribe messages sent to the full list instead of the admin account and unsubscribes the user. However, people seem to have trouble spelling "unsubscribe". Nice. Maybe there should be a fool test for people when they try to initially subscribe to the list... :-) One thing that most lists do is just send a monthly posting to the list giving an overview of the commands supported by the list software, how to unsubscribe, what content is acceptable and what isn't etc. (I haven't been on the Orion list long enough to see whether that happens here or not!) I don't remember seeing any people having unsubscribe problems on those list over the last few months (maybe the fools are just of slightly higher quality though :) The old adage, "build a foolproof system and someone will build a better fool" comes to mind. :) :-) that's brilliant! What I usually see on other lists is a trailer attached to every message sent out with instructions and/or link to unsubscribing from the list. Most email list software supports appending a trailer message to all messages. hmm, personally I don't like that - that's a lot of extra traffic overhead for every message sent out by the list software. cheers Jules
RE: Everyones problem
In the open source endeavors, you click on a hyperlink that says subscribe or unsubscribe, and it creates an email message (via you mail program), with everything you need. I haven't looked at the Orion form lately (and the instructions are probably simple), but the former method is foolproof (I'm sure someone could circumvent it). -Original Message- From: Randahl Fink Isaksen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2001 2:40 AM To: Orion-Interest Subject: Everyones problem Since so many people have so much trouble spelling the word uN-subsriPe, I was wondering if someone knows a fix to our eternal problem. For instance, does someone have software installed which could periodically send an e-mail to the list with the title "how to 'unsubscribe', 'un subscribe' or 'unsubripe' from this list" This mail could tell people about the form at www.orionserver.com. RE: Everyones problem
aha - with the rules wizard I guess? but then if everyone does that then any time someone sends a message with unsubscribe, unsickup or whatever they'll be a flood of autoreplies that may then generate further autoreplies until chaos and anarchy reign supreme... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Shane Witbeck Sent: 07 March 2001 14:27 To: Orion-Interest Subject: RE: Everyones problem This can be done through Microsoft Outlook. -Shane -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Randahl Fink Isaksen Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2001 3:40 AM To: Orion-Interest Subject: Everyones problem Since so many people have so much trouble spelling the word uN-subsriPe, I was wondering if someone knows a fix to our eternal problem.
