Re: general questions

I know the console has some classpath information, have you tried there?
Click on the server node, and then there's a button or something to get to
configuring the application and it shows some classpath info I think.

I've been having the worst time debugging some functionality, and was
wondering:

- Is there a way to check the class path the server is using? To check if
it loaded the Path from the server.xml file correctly, or what its using

and

- What method does the server invoke first when started with the
 "java -jar -orion.jar"?

any info would really help

This is what I use (and should answer your question)

java -classpath orion.jar;xerces.jar;ejb.jar;jndi.jar;jdbc.jar;jta.jar;parser.jar;jaxp.jar;xalan.jar;tools.jar;jsse.jar;jnet.jar;jcert.jar;activation.jar;mail.jar;saxon.jar com.evermind.server.ApplicationServer

Run from the orion directory.

Check the manifest.mf file inside the orion.jar file. That answers at least
part of your question: the server starts with the main() method of
com.evermind.server.ApplicationServer.

RE: General Questions...

2000-03-28 Thread Arved Sandstrom

In my opinion Orion has a lot of potential. The amount of work that I have
been willing to do with it has been constrained solely by the lack of
documentation. 95% of the docs that come with Orion have nothing whatsoever
to do with Orion, and I already had these other docs.

Every other app server, or CORBA ORB, that I have used or evaluated has
featured copious documentation related specifically to the server or ORB.

Granted, the Orion team does state that the server is still for advanced
users. In my estimation the only thing that rules it out for *any* user,
including advanced users, is the lack of docs. What's worse, the docs that
_do_ exist frequently conflict, or are plain wrong.

Seriously, how long would it take to produce an HTML document which is
exactly the parallel of the Sun J2EE Developer's Guide
(http://www.javasoft.com/j2ee/j2sdkee/techdocs/guides/ejb/html/TOC.html),
but for Orion? Maybe a week? That would be immensely useful.

Would anyone care to express there likes/dislikes about this product?
I have found it very straight forward, stable and fast. I have only been
looking at it for a few days, and haven't had the chance to test it
thoroughly yet though. I would love to hear what other peoplke have to
say.

Thanks!

No one seems to know how to make JMS work. I've asked the list repeatedly
with no success. The coffee maker example won't compile. The documentation
is no help.
