RE: Which JDK to use?
I'm having trouble with glibc and java (Sun for now). I have glibc 2.1.3, JDK 1.2.2. When I try to start a Swing/AWT application I get a 'shared library not found' error. Anyone know something about that? non-GUI programs run fine. Jeroen T. The solution was to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH pointing out to $JAVA_HOME/lib or so and all started to be working fine. I can't check it out as I'm on Solaris, but I'm pretty sure it should help. Jeroen T. I'm not on linux myself at the moment, but I'll try it when I have the opportunity. Thanks for the hint. I'm having trouble with glibc and java (Sun for now). I have glibc 2.1.3, JDK 1.2.2. I wish I could refrain from harsh comments about the abolute stupidity of the "registry" in windows, but anyway... Orion works very well with JDK 1.3. We have it deployed internally using 1.3. Also, I happen to know that much of the development of Orion is done using 1.3. So I think your problem is somewhere else... ...propably deep inside that pile of garbage called the windows registry.

Hi, I've just installed Netscape 6, and now I can't start Orion. It seems that it checks the registry for Version 1.2 of the Java RunTime, but Netscape 6 upgrades it to 1.3. Elias, I'm using Orion with JDK 1.3 rc 2, the latest JDK available to the public (as of April 8, 2000). There shouldn't be any problems from that version of the JDK in starting Orion. If all else fails, as a previous poster said, make sure c:\java\jdk1.3rc2\bin\ (or wherever your JDK 1.3 directory is) and try that. Alternatively, run java.exe (or javaw.exe) from its full c:\java\jdk1.3rc2\bin\java.exe pathname (again, substituting the correct path for your system). What gave you the indication that Orion "checks the registry for Version 1.2 of the Java RunTime" in the first place? Maybe that could give us some clues to what your problem is. Is there any way around this, since I have other stuff that needs JDK1.3. I'm curious about what stuff you're doing that requires JDK 1.3 -- drop me a line (off the list) if you get a chance. Re: Which JDK?
Hello, There's no problem having many JDK:s installed on the same box. Also, Orion does indeed run best with JDK 1.3 if you have it. If Netscape has messed up your jvm somehow you can always set the path to point to the old jdk or start it using c:\path\to\your\old\jdk\bin\java -jar orion.jar Regards, Karl Avedal Raymond Offiah wrote: Hi, I've just installed Netscape 6, and now I can't start Orion.
