No. Just some quick notes: you just need to set OSGEO4W_REP to where the local package repository should be placed, goto src/$package/osgeo4w and run package.sh from a cygwin shell. That should fetch the sources, possibly patch them, create a local osgeo4w install with it's build dependency, build the sources, package them and upload them (unless you set OSGEO4W_SKIP_UPLOAD). There's no list of expected cygwin packages yet and no automated triggering of rebuilds of reverse dependencies. It also expects an installed version of Visual C++ 2019 in "Program Files". [osgeo4w-dev] QGIS 3.18.0 and QGIS 3.14.4 (LTR) packages released and OSGeo4W reboot
Hi there, I'm happy to announce that the QGIS packages of 3.16.4 (LTR) 'Hannover' and the our latest release 3.18.0 'Zürich' are ready on https://qgis.org/de/site/forusers/download.html. This includes Linux, Mac and Windows packages. With the availability of a new regular release the current long-term release 3.16 replaces the previous long-term release 3.10 in the long term package repositories. The Windows standalone installer are as usual made from the OSGeo4W packages. In OSGeo4W there has lately been a big effort to reboot it, meaning that it has been completely rebuilt using newer source versions of mostly every package using a newer compiler. As this happened shortly before the QGIS release the new packages are still in a separate repository for testing. You can install them using the osgeo4w installer on http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/testing/osgeo4w-setup.exe (note the testing - the old installer will also work, if you point it to the new site, but it will default to the old). Within the reboot a lot of old packages were dropped (including dependencies to old microsoft runtimes), new packages were introduced and also package names were revised. Long story short: you cannot upgrade from old installs and have to remove and reinstall or use a separate directory. As the new OSGeo4W only supports 64bit the default root directory was changed to C:\OSGeo4W, which might help with that if you were on 64bit earlier. Also note that it now only has one version of Python - namely 3.9, which doesn't support Windows 7 anymore. Other updates include Qt 5.15, GDAL 3.2, PROJ 7.2 and SAGA 7.8. It also has PDAL 2.2 which is required for native support of point clouds in QGIS - something that you find lacking in the "old" OSGeo4W repository and in turn in the current standalones. The new installer also doesn't require administrator privileges anymore. Unless you run it elevated (ie. as Administrator) the option to create shortcuts for all users will be unavailable. The testing repository will eventually replace the old repository and also be used to make standalone installers. As it has grown to exceed the 2GB limit of NSIS the standalone installers will then be switched to MSI. The package recipes currently reside at https://github.com/jef-n/OSGeo4W. Please test and report packaging issues to the OSGeo4W TRAC at https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w. Jürgen -- Jürgen E. Fischer norBIT GmbH Tel. +49-4931-918175-31 Dipl.-Inf. For x86 there is only one: boost-1.56.0-2 (+ boost-devel) and libkml and libkml-vc14 depend on it. For x86_64 there are two: boost-1.55.0-1 and boost-libs-1.56.0-1 (+ boost-devel). So when 3.0.3 is released both qgis and qgis-rel-dev will switch to 3.0.3-1. If there's not need for packaging fixes qgis will stay at 3.0.3-1 until the next point release, while qgis-rel-dev will increase to something like 3.0.3-30 by the next point release, when both switch to 3.0.4-1. 3.0-x doesn't exists except for the meta packages - and that just because the dependencies probably won't change with point releases anyway. What's so interesting about the version numbers? qgis is the current release. qgis-rel-dev the nightly of the release branch. Both are at currently at 3.0.0 because the release branch is at 3.0.0. The package number is just an increasing number for each build of the package. Same for qgis-ltr and qgis-ltr-dev - just that it's the ltr branch which currently is at 2.18.17. qgis-dev is a nightly of master - which is currently at 3.1.0. The nightlies start after the initial release package - so if the initial package needs several fixes - like this time - the package number will not be 1, but the first nightly will still be 1 and therefore lower - but there's no problem with that as the two are independant packages. > >> Also "qgis-full" is 3.0-1... No, qgis-full is empty. It just depends on qgis (no specific version) and a couple of other packages (see setup.ini or qgis-full's setup.hint). Jürgen -- Jürgen E. [osgeo4w-dev] Installers updated to support mirrors
Hi, as you might have noticed the new QGIS release currently produces heavy load on download.osgeo.org. I've add reinstated the original support for mirrors from cygwin in our installers that was previously hardwired to download.osgeo.org. The mirrors are listed in http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/mirrors.lst, which is automatically fetched by the installer. To reduce the load I mirrored OSGeo4W to our site and included it. When package are promoted a list of cgi remoted urls is invoked. For our site I use https://gitlab.com/jef-n/osgeo4w/blob/master/scripts/mirror-osgeo4w.sh to rsync the updates (only the files that are referenced in setup.ini). I guess the oslandia mirror should be added too - I just didn't do that already, because it currently only carries the 64bit packages... Jürgen -- Jürgen E. Which should be avoided > (http://siomsystems.com/mixing-visual-studio-versions/) That's certainly a fragile issue. We don't track which compilers were used to produce the individual packages - so it's also unclear on which version of the msvcrt they depend on (msvcrt used to have several, although it was meanwhile split up, the dependencies were still not refined everywhere). But I think it's unavoidable sometimes - I wouldn't like to have three GDALs and all their dependencies for QGIS 2 (msvc2010/py2), 3 (msvc2015/py3) and GRASS (MinGW) in OSGeo4W (not to mention the GRASS plugin where all three would meet anyway; also newer version of GDAL will not work with msvc2010 because of c++11). I think it's meant to work and it does, still it should be avoided where possible. Others: * not listing of build dependencies (libraries and tools) * no build recipes for everything * those that exist don't have a form that would allow automatic invocation in a uniform way * source packages don't contain sources nor automatically usable pointers to download them. So there's much to do on that front before all this can work. Also there are some proprietary SDKs (esp. for use with GDAL: ECW, MrSID, FileGDB etc.) that I'm not sure you are allowed to make them public in such a setup - although you are allowed to ship the redistributable runtime parts. > We actually hit a problem probably related to that > (https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/ticket/529) and that could mean to recompile > gdal and all its dependencies with msvc 2015. I think that is just due to the fact that numpy wasn't installed, when the package was built. That that problem is not already fixed, is just because I'm working on transitioning building gdal with msvc2015 (needed for 2.2). Having all this in place would have certainly helped with this of course. The nightly should already work again - 2.2 not yet. > So here are some propositions: > - find a way to add a mirroring system for the osgeo4w distribution. AFAIK there is also a OSUSL file server/proxy that could be set in front download.osgeo.org to help with this - bandwidth should be better. Not sure if that extra mirror architecture would still be necessary. > - share access to our gitlab-ci infrastructure and vbox VMs (and allow > it to be copied somewhere else if needed). The idea would be to have a > unique repository with all package "sources" and all the machinery needed > to trigger a build of the whole distribution or of some selected packages > on a known environment. Not sure if that also would be candidates for osgeo hosting - but self hosting is probably easier and more flexible (also a reason why I didn't push this). Perhaps leased hosted servers are even be cheaper than hosting "own" hardware at OSUSL. > Regarding the issue of mixing compiler versions, we apparently still > need to compile python2.7 modules with msvc 2010 (which is the version > used to compile python27 and all wheel binaries). > Apart from that (which may imply to maintain two versions of the same > libraries), do you see problems if all packages get compiled with the > same (last) version of msvc (2015) ? Hi Martin, On Tue, 19. Apr 2016 at 15:11:35 +0200, Martin Landa wrote: > I wonder where to upload test packages? I cannot find in it directory > layout. Thanks! Martin Depends on what you define a test package. You can just upload a new package and run regen without running promote. That will only update setup_test.ini that is only used when setup is invoked with the -t switch (which is what setup_test.bat does). It will have the new package available as update. Beware that others might meanwhile run promote (eg. the nightlies). Or you change the setup.hint of the package and add curr:, prev: and test: with the version numbers of the current, previous and the version of the package to want to make available for testing. After running regen and promote the old package (curr) will still offered by default, but the test version will be available when you switch to Exp (last radio button) in the installer. But in both cases the test packages go to the same directory as a regular package would. Jürgen -- Jürgen E. Fischer norBIT GmbH Tel. +49-4931-918175-31 Dipl.-Inf. [osgeo4w-dev] msvcrt boost
Hi, I recently split the ms runtime installer off from the msvcrt package into several msvcrt package msvcrt package into several packages as the list of ms runtime we need to ship is growing and adding to the msvcrt package always meant that all the runtimes had to be downloaded and would installed again. Most packages still have a dependencies to msvcrt. But i updated the setup.hint of points2grid to depend on msvcrt2013 and boost to msvcrt2012. I added msvcrt2013 in response to #431 and I suppose boost depends on msvcrt2012 as the two were introduced yesterday. Please correct me, if that assumption is wrong. Eventually the other should also be updated to depend on the particular msvcrt they actually use. For most that is msvcrt2010. Does anyone recall what still depend on msvcrt2008 (probably one or more repacked binary)? There's no dependency on boost yet. I wonder why it was introduced. Also given it's large size (1.2GB installed) I suggest splitting it into a boost-libs containing the stuff needed at runtime (ie. DLLs; 24M installed) and boost-devel containing the compile time files (ie. headers and libraries). Jürgen -- Jürgen E. Fischer norBIT GmbH Tel. +49-4931-918175-31 Dipl.-Inf. Which one do you use for zlib ? I used cygwin's tar. Ah.. OK. Too bad the tool is not provided by OSGeo4W itself. Is there a chance this can be fixed ? Not sure that msys tar can't be use to prepare packages - I'd avoid backslashes in any case. - If there is one recipe you consider should be the model, for what package is it ? Not really. My recipes evolved from package to package. They probably should include or download the actual source, be ready for automated building, automatically install build dependencies (apt?) and stuff like that. Cannot agree more. Also, I was thinking it might be desirable to package some missing build tools directly into OSGeo4W. We have swig or sip but don't even have cmake. Well, I try to not package third party development tools - unless they are part of what gets built (like sip). It seems to me we are really close to have an OSGeo4W build machine be basic standard windows + OSGeo4W + vc10. That would be great to turn this into a reality. We are? BTW I'd need vc8 too - well, if we can actually build everything automatically that might obviously change. Ideally it should handle both architectures too. Great idea too. Do you have an advice on that ? I currently think the package.cmd bat file shall be run from an OSGeo4W shell and recognize the architecture flavor. Is there any env var/tool in OSGeo4W shell telling the architecture ? This would work: python -c import sys; print 'x86' if sys.maxsize = 2**32 else 'x86_64' So for now they just have the character of elaborate build notes. Also most if not all source packages are not correct for use with the installer, because they just contain files that are meant to go into a manually extracted source tree somewhere, while the installer would install them into the osgeo4w tree where they would clash, because they would all use the same directory 'osgeo4w'. I think the sources should live in /usr/src/$package/, but missed to check cygwin packages earlier and didn't want to rebuild everything just to fix the source packages. That's what I did : source package extracts to /usr/src/osgeo4w/$package and generates build result in /usr/src/release/$package. Easier for me then to script things to manage synchronisation from /usr/src/release to the osgeo server. Yes, for most things I also put the stuff into a local repository. - Can you review the glew source package ? Um, the archive contains backslashes in the path - that's IMHO undesireable. OK so I guess I should go for cygwin's tar. However it does not seem to create issues for extracting the tarballs, even under linux shells. Re: [osgeo4w-dev] OSGeo4W 64bit shell and PATH
Hi Julien, On Thu, 14. Nov 2013 at 11:32:36 +0100, Julien Malik wrote: OSGeo4W 64bit shell clears PATH when starting. This is not the case for the 32bit version, where we still have system and user PATH values. Is this intended ? Yes, and both 32bit and 64bit should do that. PATH is often polluted with unnecessary stuff, that sometimes even conflicts with stuff in OSGeo4W. I use the shell for development task where I need a bunch of paths to external tools (cmake, mercurial...). This is not quite convenient to lose the current PATH values. I use alternative batch files to start my devenv.
