Re: Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread Aceman444
Yes, I have also observed that articles that have coordinates in the proper
wikipedia place (coords template) are used. Whether OSM objects have the
wikipedia tag seems irrelevant for OsmAnd.

Osmand+ doesn't open map links correctly

2017-08-03 Thread sobriquet506
Running Nougat, google assistant just tells me there's no app available for
the link (i don't have their awful map app installed).
Dragon assistant passes address links to Osmand+, but Osmand+ tries to read
these as coordinates, with very unhelpful results.
I have "Open supported links" in the "app info" menu set to "open in this
app", any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Navigating from non-current location

2017-08-03 Thread Harold Munn
I want to navigate between two points neither of which is where I am cutrently
located. For example I might want to know how long the trip would take. However
when I enter the two points in the navigation screen and start navigation, the
route displayed is always from my current location.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Re: Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread Bart Eisenberg
Coordinates and formatting specifications for Wikipedia articles are
entered using the "Coord" template
. The result generally
appears in the upper-right portion of the article.

For example, here's the template for Mount Fuji:
{{coord|35|21|29|N|138|43|52|E|type:mountain_scale:10|format=dms|display=inline,title}}

And here's the associated Wikipedia entry:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mount_Fuji=792549292

Ok,
That means there's more wikipedia data than just the ones tagged from OSM,
so I'm happy.

Re: routing issue in Aachen, Germany

My question is where does the YOURS router in the offline mode get its data
from?
Is there a way to update it?

When the use of the YOURS routing server is still possible, but it uses OLD
data, then this feature should be urgently DISABLED inside Osmand app, or
not??

Re: Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread Harry van der Wolf
I won't go in on how languages are dealt with and which cross checks are
done.

OsmAnd dowloads the raw database dumps for all available languages from the
Wikipedia servers.
The scripts check all the articles for coordinates. If the article contains
coordinates, the article is added to the wkipedia file.

Re: Old, deleted features still visible in OsmAnd, but not in osm.org

2017-08-03 Thread GB
[SOLVED]
I noticed the same kind of issue on my device; old versions of map features
were shown side by side with new versions in OsmAnd.
In my case I discovered the reason: I had two versions of offline maps at
the same time:
An OLD version of the map at COUNTRY level + a NEW version of the map at
REGION level.
How could this happen? Quite easily, some time ago I downloaded the map for
the whole country in OsmAnd / Download maps. But lately I have updated only
region maps (for those regions that I was interested in now), forgetting
all about the country map. When they were both there in the device, then
OsmAnd rendered data from both at the same time, thus rendering both
deleted and new features side by side. To fix this I deleted the country
map file (*.obf), rebooted, and the obsolete data were gone.
This solved my problem at least. Does this also work for the original
poster?

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature---rendering a mix of country and
region data. Maybe the developers can evaluate that question.
Anyway, knowing about it is useful in order to make sure that only one map
version is present on the device.

Wikipedia Data - Where from?

2017-08-03 Thread jethro
I see one or two threads about how wikipedia works on OSMand but nothing on
what data we have here/is relevant.

Is it any wikipedia data, by Lat/Long and appears on the map in appropriate
places.
Or is it data where an osm tag has a link to the article. ie. Just what OSM
users have put in.

Thanks
J
