RE: [otrs] MS Exchange and POP3 access

Really this is just sheer laziness. It is relatively easy to deploy
limited and secure pop3 access using MS exchange. The pop3 server
supplied with exchange is questionable (you may need them to play with
it a little before it works ok for OTRS) but access to it can be very
tighly controlled.

They are just dodging the workload; produce a cost/benefit scenario for
the cost of making the change to AD and exchange versus the cost of
buying an IMAP compliant ticketing system!

I would try the 'full' oracle client software rather than the instant client -
having had problems with this in the past.

Also it seems you have another problem with your logging which I'm guessing is
permissions related, perhaps when you see this log you may get more info.

Hope this helps

I neglected to mention, this was noticed following our upgrade to
Version 2.1.7 from 2.0.x

We've just noticed also that the bulk action page is blank :(

[otrs] Broken item in the Navbar

2007-12-03 Thread Phil Morris
At some point during our life of OTRS, we seem to have gained an Item
into our navbar with no description etc. It appears between the 'Logout'
and 'Preferences' items, and is just a broken image with an ALT tag full
of junk code.

Looking at the page source, there is an unterminated string constant in
the html, resulting in a lot of perl markup being dumped into the ALT
tag.

I've traced this into the .dtl and I can see the Item block code which
is responsible, but I've trawled through our config files and I cannot
find a navbar entry that has null descriptions/names.

Has anyone else seen this, or can provide any insight on how to debug
the system to find out an entry in the config which is feeding this
item?

many thanks

[otrs] Re: Postmaster filters - also Is OTRS for me?

2007-02-14 Thread Phil Morris

Re: Postmaster filters question.

>I like the "Postmaster Filter" way of handling inbound
dispatching/filtering.
>First of all, as far as i can see, a postmaster filter is in effect on
ALL defined pop3 accounts.
>Second, it seems as if it's only possible to AND multiple matches in a
filter, is that true?
Any way to OR them?

This would be a nice feature i.e. relevant POP account picked from a
list.
The way to produce the same result is to check the RCPT-TO email header
to see where the message was sent to.
This is complicated by the fact that the email might be received via CC
or BCC.
It's further complicated when a customer uses the web to log a message.

To produce an OR type of filter, it is necessary to add an additional
filter, with same SET options but different test options. These are then
treated as OR logic instead of AND. The onlt drawback is having many
many filters.

Ultimately you can do as you please by using pre-filter modules and
writing custom filter code.

like
public or published which would allow me to publish the answer to the

the
knowledge base is not integrated with the answers of the tickets.

It's not quite as easy as you describe, but you CAN link published KB
articles in the FAQ module to tickets, and also keep attachments.
This makes sense, as it is often better to 'boil down' a ticket history
into the FAQ 'Problem, Symptoms, Solution' format rather than just
publish the ticket - which will have many extraneous messages
uninteresting to a solution seeker.

If it helps, we just rejected high end KB and knowledge management
packages and opted to put our KB into the FAQ module.

Hope this helps you guys :)

[otrs] RE: Send a daily email of open tickets to admin?

2006-11-07 Thread Phil Morris
Hi,

We quickly realised the limitations of the stats part of OTRS, and
because we are a BI (reporting, OLAP etc.) house we simply connected to
the database over ODBC to MySQL, and now we can use all of the reporting
and distribution facilities of our toolsets. (I won't bore you with the
details - just go to www.it-performs.com to read about the stuff we play
with)

This lets us produce virtually any report, and explore our tickets at
will.
A good one the other day was trying to journal activity on a particular
date - very difficult in OTRS, very easy in the database ;)

I would recommend you have a look what you have lying around on your
shelves in terms of reporting and BI software (Crystal for example) and
give it a go! If you want any help let me know.

Cheers,
Phil Morris

I think the point you are missing is the one Andy Lubel raised:

Andy Lubel wrote:
>>And you have a SMTP gateway tagging this? Something like SpamAssasin or the
>>likes?

What he is saying is that your incoming email must be being processed and
tagged in the headers FIRST before OTRS can use the tags to filter out spam.

OTRS is not a spam filter itself, it can only filter based on the message
headers.

My previous message was an example of the headers that MY ISP puts on my email
headers. Your ISP might not have a spam system, or may have a different one.

If they have a different one, you will have to ask them what they use and what
headers to expect.
If they do not have a spam system, you will have to implement one yourself, as
described in the OTRS manual.

I hope this helps you to understand and crack your spam problem!

[otrs] Empty System Logs

2006-09-27 Thread Phil Morris
Hi again,

Every time I go into the 'System Log' page in the OTRS Agent interface, it is
completely empty.

My OTRS system is implemented on Windows 2000, Apache and MySQL

Does anyone recognise this behaviour, and if so know how to get to view the
system log WITHOUT having to log into the server?

Thanks

[otrs] RE: spam

2006-09-27 Thread Phil Morris
I've had some fun with this lately. We changed ISP and they use Imail and their
premium mail filter.

I had to add the relevant tags into the SysConfig in OTRS to be able to pick
them up in the postmaster filter screen.
Also they were case sensitive, but once this was done filters such as:

Match: I-Mail-Spam-Revdns = .*
Set: X-OTRS-QUEUE = Junk
Set X-OTRS-STATE = closed successful

worked nicely.
Apologise that this list is in uppercase after mentioning the case sensitivity,
but here are the tags I was given:

X-IMAIL-SPAM-ADDRBL
X-IMAIL-SPAM-DNSBL
X-IMAIL-SPAM-HELOBL
X-IMAIL-SPAM-HELODOMAIN
X-IMAIL-SPAM-INVALIDFROM
X-IMAIL-SPAM-IP4R
X-IMAIL-SPAM-STATISTICS
X-IMAIL-SPAM-RHSBL
X-IMAIL-SPAM-PHRASE
X-IMAIL-SPAM-VALFROM
X-IMAIL-SPAM-VALREVDNS
X-IMAIL-SPAM-VALHELO
X-IMAIL-SPAM-URL-DBL
X-IMail-SPAM-Premium
X-IMail-SPAM-SPF-None
X-IMail-SPAM-SPF-Fail
X-IMail-SPAM-SPF-Softfail
