Would do webforns without hesitation , probably bring back some tricks

Back to the original question, sorry nothing here.

Melbs market is quite tough at the moment. Not many positions for
straight .NET devs (my sister in law is in recruitment). Many agency
advertisements on Seek are actually not even for real positions, more
 to
fill up their databases with prospects.

Could be worth talking to Simon Cook from Encode?
https://www.encodetalent.com.au/ (si...@encodetalent.com.au)

His company have actually been sponsoring my user group (Adelaide .NET User
Group) and whilst he's based in Melbourne, he comes over most months for
our meetings. It's a mutually beneficial relationship (he pays for the
pizzas which is great for us, but also gets to mingle with our members),
but I've been impressed that he seems genuinely interested in people and
doesn't appear to be a pushy sales-driven recruiter type.

Fraser Coast QLD is a nice spot as well. My "office" is literally in
the middle of our acreage property, it's very quiet and all I can see
outside are trees, birds and roos. Perfect for programming :)

RE: NUC

2019-05-09 Thread eddie.debear
I know of a company that uses NUCs in each of their stores (Fast food chain,
fairly hostile environment for computers). These NUCs are running Win 10 Pro,
hosting Virtual Machines under Hyper V, and are mission critical in their
operations.

I believe they have had one NUC fail in 2 years, and this was due to an SSD
failing.

Thanks for the info.

Still use the VM in the cloud but wanting something local for other things.
These units looks like they are super-flexible, small and easy to move etc

There is a newer model which has an AMD GPU on board but I am not sure if it's
any quieter. Probably not.

There are some fanless models too which would be super quiet but tend to be
lower specs. I had one die recently. Well it shuts down if it gets too hot so
in hindsight I wonder if fans would have prevented an untimely death.

Also have a couple of these in my wife's office as desktop pcs and they are
great. Low cost and don't take up any deskspace, and lots of monitor options,
most can have multiple screens.

Did the VM in the cloud option not suit?

cheers,

Stephen

It's time for a new dev PC. Someone drew my attention to Intel's NUC recently,
and was wondering if anyone had any positive or negative experiences with these?

Thanks
