[ozmidwifery] when Sally met Harry
Hi, All, I'm ducking in preparation for the flak, but maybe some women like having someone view their genitals with awe, to see the beauty in them, to praise them. After all, we're not taught to love our own genitals, which is terrible. A time in a woman's life when she's not too inhibited about her body? One of the things I love about birth and babies, it the basic humanness, animalness of it all. All bodies, and all parts of them, are beautiful. I understand exactly what you mean, and have been able to have that sort of relationship with a birthing woman before. However, I do find that many women will not move from the semi-sitting position on the bed, with legs spread, looking at me to tell them ...'can you see it yet?' Occasionally I am able to encourage the women to push for a while on the loo and in the shower and they are able to tell me when they think it's time for me to check for baby hair :) *sigh* one day I will be out of the hosptial situation, and will find it easier to encourage women to 'get off the bed' and therefore get their private bits out of the limelight! :) Love, Jo -- Babies are Born... They don’t need us to look …
RE: [ozmidwifery] when Sally met Harry
No flak here Aviva!! I love to watch a baby birthed, totally amazed by miracle unfolding. For myself, that is my own self interest, I prefer to watch the baby emerge as it is so so amazing and beautiful. I love to watch women in their power birthing their baby as they desire, or in their desire. To gaze in wonder as a baby is born with the unleashing of inhibitions. We are, when in the medical model, trained to ‘watch the perineum’ as the caretakers! It does actually take a shift out of the medicalized model of birthing to trust without seeing for ourselves. To stand back and trust the woman to know without me ‘seeing for myself’ is a huge shift in power dynamics. It is equally wonderful to hear a woman say my baby is coming now and see her lift her baby from within her body. Her control, her power, birthing and catching her own baby. Indeed! I caught my two babies, though nearly forgot to! I was watching in a mirror and was so in awe of the physical feelings and the sight and the emotions, they (both times) had to remind me to catch the baby. It's just as well I've been through menopause -- I'd be looking to do it all again! love, aviva - Original Message - From: Sally Westbury To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2002 2:45 PM Subject: RE: [ozmidwifery] when Sally met Harry No flak here Aviva!!
