Title: Re: [ozmidwifery] Private Health & Midwifery

I’ve just set up a new link on the main
BellyBelly website for all to access with the summary of covers, contact details
for appropriate people in health funds and ombudsman details! If anyone has
anything to add, if anything changes etc please let me know and I will update
asap. I have copied some details straight from your emails so thank-you to
those who offered the information.

Please bookmark the link to circulate next
time someone asks or to pass onto others who would like to compare covers
before making their choice. Sorry about the long link, its how my developer has
it set up and it doesn’t quite fit into a specific category.

Health & Midwifery

Dear Kelly and all

Grand United recently launched a far more generous midwifery package.
They cover up to $2000 for private midwifery incl HB.

Some women in Joyous Birth are only shelling out about $500 in total for 2
MWs at home. It's quite surprising how many health funds are offering
coverage.

Kelly,

You probably don't want to hear this having just changed, but you might want
to continue looking around for someone that will give you more back than
$480! Australian Unity offer a similar sort of cover for midwifery unless
you are having a "planned" homebirth - in which case you can get an
agreement from them in writing to cover somewhere between $2000-$2500. They
don't care if you have an OB as backup but they will only make payments to
one or the other so if you do transfer and use a private OB you won't get
the homebirth cover (though I think you still qualify for the standard
midwifery cover which as I said I think is similar to the NIB details
below). If you transfer publicly they will still cover the "planned
homebirth".

HBA's cover is apparently better still if you can find the right person to
talk to.

good luck!
Jo

a month whereas Medibank are charging $190 and I get much less back, no
midwifery.
