Me too! I have 8 miscarriages, one with a DC only because of bleeding problems...felt much better just being in my own environment, felling the loss, and trusting my body to do the job! Re: [ozmidwifery] curette and miscarriage
Hi Megan There is a chance of the mother developing antibodies(iso-immunization) against the baby in that and / or subsequent pregnancies. An injection of Anti-D can stop this happening but that is why it is important to at least be seen by a doctor after miscarriage, rather than just letting nature take it's course and staying home.If you didn't know your blood group at that time, they would test it and you should have the result within the time frame for receiving the Anti-D i.e. 72 hours. This is the treatment I am used to anyway... Correct me if i'm wrong anyone out there..I am sure you will!! Re: [ozmidwifery] curette and miscarriage
Megan, Having had four miscarriages, and being a positive blood group, nature does cope with these things well. When I had my first mis/c after trying for 18months to even fall pregnant, I was a pretty stressed and ended up seeing an ob/gyn (for my first and hopefully last time ever) who might I say was a really pleasant chap - and pretty good on non-intervention. He told me that he wouldn't consider doing a DC until 10/40 or later gestation; or if there was continued vaginal loss, infection etc. The advice was pretty much - go home, rest, take some iron tablets, and I was surprised that he told me that to bleed/spot for weeks afterwards was quite OK as long as no offensive discharge/ fever etc. This was 5 years ago. Needless to say, for the next three mis/c's I just took a sickie and stayed at home!! Re: [ozmidwifery] curette and miscarriage
Women should be made aware of the risks of 'nicking' the uterus during a curette and the impact that can have on future births. One of the other main causes of uterine rupture during labour is a uterus that has been damaged in the past; OTHER than a cs. Out of interestdoes the system treat a woman with a previous curette as a possible rupture like they do vbacs? Afterall, who can tell if a 'nick' has occurred anyway? Probably should refrain from pointing those things out as it could be reasons enough to insist all women with curette history to have a cs for all future births. Sorry...feeling a little pissed at the vbac crap at the moment. Re: [ozmidwifery] curette and miscarriage
That's an interesting one Jo, one of the women we birthed with last year had a large ovarian cyst that required emerg surgery a few months after the birth, and they went to lengths to discuss that they had accidentally nicked the uterus during surgery, but that it would have NO impact on her future childbearing potential, and would not influence in any way her ability to have future vaginal births. (Also stated that they chose to tell her out of courtesy, and that if they hadn't mentioned it, she would never had known.h, engenders trust in the medical system and their moral and ethical integrity, NOT!). Thanks for the responses, would these ideas go along with a blighted ovum as well, the suggestion was that leaving it would cause adhesions to form etc, true or what?
