Hi,

The Australian Breastfeeding Association stocks a
very fabulous and informative short video on tongue tie made by the Royal
Women's Hospital in Melbourne.
http://www.lrc.asn.au/users/sales/category6_2.htm

With a bit of research, she should be able to get
the help she needs.

  Hi all,
  advice for a woman whose
first baby had a severe tongue tie that was never diagnosed until way too late
by which time bf had just not worked for her at all. She's pg again and
looking for support just in case this one has TT as well but has been told she
can't have it fixed straight after birth but has to go on a waiting list to
get it done. This makes her pretty anxious after last time's hellish
  experience.
  She's in western Sydney. Any
  ideas?
  Much
  appreciated!

Hi Janet,
There's a good paediatrician at Windsor who is very respectful & does snips... I can get the number if needed. Also if she would like breastfeeding support she's welcome to contact me (I'm an ABA counsellor), or I can give you numbers for her local ABA group. 400 women per month birth at Nepean, so waiting lists are very long!

Hi janet,
We had a lady with a similar problem who saw a
doctor in Sydney, may be the one in Windsor, with great results. I will see if i
can find her details through a friend. Also a Dentist in Dural who does laser
prodedure but not till about 3 months, which of course is too long for
establishment of feeding.
Cheers Di

Laurie Kobler at Integrity Dental in Dural
and Baulkham Hills does the procedure  - I think he is the one Di was
referring to in her email.

Monica Hogan at Westmead Hospital would be worth
contacting for information and support. She was part of a research project into
TT in the UK,  and very nice as well!

Contact me privately if you want her email
address.

Yep was Laurie Kobler, just couldnt find where I
had written it down? It may well have been Monica that I was thinking of in
Sydney, it was someone who had been involved in a trial, if I brush the cobwebs
away I may even remember more!

Most
ob's should be able to snip a TT in labour ward. Seen it done many
times.

Re: [ozmidwifery] tongue tie snip?

2006-05-21 Thread Susan Cudlipp

We've had a few in recent years and the paed has
simply done the snip on day one, saves delay in establishing feeding!  In
past years it was felt better to leave it to strech in time but this led to some
severe TT's not ever establishing feeding well.  My nephew (29yo) was never
treated (bottle fed by choice) and still talks with a lisp, so I am in favour of
early treatment when needed.  Seems to cause little pain and takes but a
moment - seems to me better than struggling with feeds/speech etc.  But I
do not know of background research to support this - just my
observation.
