Hi Steven

It also seems if there is not much streaming of rugby union series like the
super 12? And are there any streaming of local rugby union in Australia?

Mike,

In response to your query:
How widespread is the streaming of sports in Australia.
What I am most curious to know is whether or not any Australian baseball is
available via the net; and, if so, when is the season.

Australian football is played from late March to late September. Matches
are played between Friday evening through to late Sunday and are available
from the AFL website at www.afl.com.au.

Rugby League is played from mid March to early October and is streamed on
Saturdays and Sundays from radio station 2GB at www.2gb.com.au.

International cricket is played from early November to early February. In
recent years the only live audio has been the sound track off the TV feed -
useless. The radio commentary has not been available online.

Baseball is not a major sport in this country and is not covered on radio or
through live audio online. Not even certain when the season is these days.

Cheers, Stephen

Re: Diamond Cut 5 (DC5)

2004-05-15 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi Hank
I think it's about $199 dollars for the new version. They have special deals
however - when I bought it about 6 months ago it was on offer at $125. They
claim to have deals for new users I think.

here's the blurb from their email to me. There's more detail on the
website - I think you'll find it exciting:
www.tracertek.com

Gordon

Here's the email I first received:
Introducing DC SIX- A Special Announcement
We know that many of you spend a lot of time with DC Five and that you love
the feature set. Over the months DC Five has been shipping, we've been
told
again and again that DC Five is simply the finest and most full featured
audio restoration and enhancement product on the market. We've always taken
great
pride in this.
Even though we love DC Five, honesty compels us to report to you that this
statement is no longer true. There's another product that takes audio
restoration
to a whole new level.
Happily, it's from us and it's called DC Six!
This special edition of our wildly popular (in our humble opinion)
newsletter is devoted to one subject - all the scoop on DC Six. If you are
a present
owner of Enhance/CDR, DCart32, DC Millennium, DC Five, have ever purchased
anything from Tracer, or even if you just like to admire great software from
afar, you'll want to read this edition from cover to cover.
New Features in DC Six
When we started to plan DC Six, we decided to focus on the big picture.
Basically, we wanted to do three things all at once. We wanted to make the
program
faster, we wanted it to be easier and we wanted even more power. We think
you'll see all three of these goals in the feature set.
- DC Six is MUCH faster when processing. We now make even better use of
the math functions buried deep in your cpu and the result is a speed
improvement
on many filters from 10 to 80%. DC Five was fast, but DC Six will go MUCH
faster when you press that Run Filter button. You will see this speed
improvement
on both AMD and Intel processors.
- DC Six has a totally new type of filter that we've never offered before.
Our new EZ Clean will make it possible to fully dial in the filter to get
out
clicks, pops, crackle, hum, rumble, surface noise and hiss with less than 5
seconds of prep work. There are no noise samples to be taken - the program
finds the noise and removes it automatically. It even adjusts to a changing
noise environment automatically. It shows you what it is doing
automatically.
You'll be automatically amazed by this super easy to use filter. It's just
great for any type of record or music recording on tape.
- DC Six has another new feature that many of you have been asking for: A
video mode. Now you can open AVI and mpeg video files in DC Six and watch
the
video and hear the audio. You can extract the audio portion of the video
file and use the Classic Mode or Fast Edit mode tools on this audio.
- DC Six now has support for DirectX plug-ins. If you have other audio
processing plugs you can now apply them in DC Six just like our native
tools. You
can even put them in the Multifilter!
- DC Six has a new 20 Band Graphic EQ. This new EQ uses traditional sliders
to make it incredibly easy to apply more complex EQ curves.
- DC Six now offers the ability to rip audio CDs! This is a much asked for
feature. It will even look up your audio CDs and display the name of each
track.
A single click will get the audio off the CD and onto your hard drive.
- DC Six now offers one button delete of .pkf and temp files. If you've
found hundreds of these sitting on your hard drive, now you can get rid of
them
with one click.
- DC Six has a new Fat Bottom function in the VVA. This is a bass harmonic
synthesizer which can really punch up your bass-challenged recordings.
- DC Six now has a new batch RMS gain normalize function. This adds another
capability to automatically level volumes among different songs in a
compilation.
- DC Six now saves in many new compressed audio formats. If you install a
new audio Codec on your computer, DC Six will automatically notice and allow
you to save in that format.
- DC Six adds an entirely new mode to the Continuous Noise Filter called
Auto CNF. This is a new type to adaptive tool which does not require a
noise sample
and is a more advanced version used in the EZ Clean filter.
- DC Six will now use files greater than 2GB is size. This has always been
a limitation of the .wav file format and not the audio program. We decided
to fix it anyway. You can now record your 10 hours of radio without
stopping.
- DC Six now has cancel buttons and progress indicators from most all
functions.
- DC Six now has a new Snap-to-Zero-Crossing function. This will allow you
to do a cut and paste without creating a click where the paste occurs.
- DC Six has a new Clone function which allows you to copy the Source window
to the Destination window with one mouse click and offers to do this for you
if you are working on part of a source file and don't have a

Hi Gary
True, editing can be a problem at the moment. But for filtering files and
using the menus and bialog boxes it's good at present. With the new
enhancements and the commitment to making it more accessible for close
editing it should be much better. It's a work in progress, but at present I
find it perfectly accessible for whole file processing and when I want to
edit I use Audition.

Take care.

Hi Gordon, the biggest beef I have with Diamond Cut is that as an editor,
it is not accessible at all. other than that, it is a good program! I think
that improvements could be made to the sample End noise feature too.

 Hi
I don't know whether any of you have discovered this program but it's
one of the best for noise reduction and at present it's usable with Jaws
but
could do with one or two amendments to make it absolutely super. It's the
best I've found so far for clearing all types of records/tapes and there
are
 so many presets.

I sent them a list of things which I would have liked to be included in
future versions to help with accessibility. They're about to bring out a
version 6 with some of the improvements I suggested - others did too -
there's even going to be a Wizard to do automatic cleaning after automatic
checking of the file which will make things much easier for the novice
(and
 for the experienced too).

Here's the encouraging reply I received today. It looks like this program
could become a standard for blind users if the company is prepared to make
changes for our, as well as others', benefit.

For full information on the program DC5, soon to be DC6, have a look at:

 Hi Gordon,
Sorry I didn't get back to you last time, but you weren't forgotten...I
simply forwarded your message to our programmers and forgot to tell you
that
 this
 was what I was doing.
I heard from one of our programmers today and he wanted me to tell you
that
he will do his best to work these things into the code.
I can't promise that it will happen for DC SIX's first rev, but if Rick
(who
does the bulk of our programming) says he will put it in, I can promise
you
 he'll do his best.
You should also know that you're not the only one out there complaining
about these things, so we'll do our best to make you happy.
 Thanks,
 Jeff

Setting a turn-Table Pitch Control?

2004-05-15 Thread Dale E. Heltzer
Hi,

I've obtained a turntable that will play 33-1/3, 45-, and 78-RPM records
for the purpose of transferring old recordings to music CD.
The turntable has a pitch control for fine-tuning the speed. I don't
have perfect pitch, and I can't use the visual cues to set the speed
properly.

Has someone else out there found a solution to this problem?

Re: Setting a turn-Table Pitch Control?

2004-05-15 Thread Roger Fordham
A possible solution is:
1 Buy a tuning fork pitched at A440.

2 Get yourself a piano recording recorded on a modern piano, which is
concert-pitched at A440. It would help you if the key of the piece is also
in A, and also that it's slow. Such a recording might be the one by
Sviatoslav Richter of Schubert's Sonata D. 664. Whether you like this or not
isn't the point; which is rather that you can compare the relative pitches
of your tuning fork and the piano, and use your ear, [or the ear of somebody
good at these things such as a piano tuner], to adjust your turntable's
speed. It might not be perfect to the highest standards of revolution, but
if done accurately, it should be good enough to ensure pretty reasonable
accuracy.

faster, we wanted it to be easier and we wanted even more power. We think
you'll see all three of these goals in the feature set.
- DC Six is MUCH faster when processing. We now make even better use of
the math functions buried deep in your cpu and the result is a speed
improvement
on many filters from 10 to 80%. DC Five was fast, but DC Six will go MUCH
faster when you press that Run Filter button. You will see this speed

on both AMD and Intel processors.

Yeah, just find a song that you're framiliar with on CD, then hopefully
you have that same song on vinal. And then plug a pair of phones in to
your CD player, and only use 1 ear. Then plug another pair of phones in
to your amp, and use the one ear from the second pair of phones. Then
try and start them both at the same time. Make sure they're as close
together as you can get them. Then adjust your pitch control on your
turntable, until it matches the pitch with your CD version. I've have
done it and it can take some time, so please be patient.
Hope this helps,

 Hi Gary
 I'm afraid I don't know - I use Cool Edit Pro (Audition)'s noise reduction
package which I find quite good but DC5 beats it in many ways but not all.
Certainly with the hundreds of presets, it's got much more choice. I've
tried quite a lot of the cheap and expensive programs and I believe that
this is probably true to its claim in being the best once you get used to
using it. I was totally blown away at first when I put a file with a
terribly scratchy and clicked 78 through it - nothing remained except a
good
quality recording which had slight enhancement on it, clear, sharp and
 extremely acceptable.

It does so much more, audio grabbing from CD, Video etc. radio recording,
live filtering eg. connect the input of your soundcard to the source the
output of the sound card to another device and pass the signal through DC5
and it will filter live. The new version will allow DirectX plugins so
even
if you haven't enough with this package you can use your Sound Forge Noise
 Reduction from within this program.

I'll include the advert for the new version. It does look exciting,
especially when it's already accessible for dealing with files and will be
more accessible when they put in the new codes.

Hi Gordon. It sounds like the Diamond Cut products are quite interesting.
I'm using Soundforge, but when I purchased Soundforge 5.0, I also got a

that one. It was 20 cents on a dollar, since Soundforge is around $500.
It's good to hear about all the new sound editing programs that are being
developed. It's good to have all the noise reduction and vinal restoration
that's out, because of all the old recordings we have that we want to have
restored. Also, it's good to have things like pitch shift, because maybe
when listing to something like oldtime radio, I can control the pitch, so
that the characters sound like what we remember them, instead of being set
too high; then we can also clean up the extra noise in the recordings.

Yeah, just find a song that you're framiliar with on CD, then
 hopefully
you have that same song on vinal. And then plug a pair of
 phones in to
your CD player, and only use 1 ear. Then plug another pair
 of phones in
to your amp, and use the one ear from the second pair of phones. Then
try and start them both at the same time. Make sure they're as close
together as you can get them. Then adjust your pitch control on your
turntable, until it matches the pitch with your CD version. I've have
done it and it can take some time, so please be patient.
 Hope this helps,
 Kevin

  Hi,

  I've obtained a turntable that will play 33-1/3, 45-, and 78-RPM
  records
for the purpose of transferring old recordings to music CD.
The turntable has a pitch control for fine-tuning the speed. I don't
have perfect pitch, and I can't use the visual cues to set the speed
  properly.

Has someone else out there found a solution to this problem?

  TIA

Win Amp opening minamized

2004-05-15 Thread Karl Smith

Hi Folks,
Lately for some reason I can't figure whenever I start playing a file with
Win Amp it seems to be minimized. If I want to turn it off I have to go to
the system tray and right click it to get a menu to exit. I can't seem to
figure out how to get back to the Win Amp window I used to get when opening
a file. Any suggestions?

Karl

Another Monkeys Audio update has been released for Easy CD DA
Extractor. Registered users can download this update from

Monkey's Audio 3.99 Update 4

1. Fixed: Decoder could erroneously report a CRC error on the last
frame of some
files.

Monkey's Audio 3.99 Update 3

1. Changed: Worked on making data types more standard / cross-platform
friendly.
2. Changed: Switched code from tab-based to space based. (may still be
some out-of-whack
formatting)
3. Fixed: Building ID3 tags could cause a crash.
4. Fixed: APL builder treated the last part of a CUE time as a hundreth
of a second
instead of as a frame. (1 / 75 of a second)
5. Fixed: File Info dialog used by Winamp plugin wouldn't accept / save
Unicode tag
values properly.
6. Fixed: APL files could output noise or silence at the end of the
file in some
cases.

Monkey's Audio 3.99 Update 2

1. Fixed: Possible buffer overflow attack weakness in APE tagging code.
2. Fixed: MACDll.dll was not doing ANSI to Unicode conversions
properly.
3. Changed: Added Unicode versions of interface wrappers to MACDll.dll.
4. Changed: Updated Winamp plugin to better handle Unicode.
5. Changed: Removed peak-level normalize from file and Winamp plugin.
(newer players
can do normalize / replay gain during playback)
6. Changed: Updated Cool Edit filter to 3.99.

Monkey's Audio 3.99 Update 1

1. Fixed: MACDll.dll wasn't working on Win9x / ME systems.
2. Changed: MAC.exe updated to 3.99.
