Re: a frustrating problem.

2004-09-26 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Reta:
Thanks all over the place for going through the trouble of acquiring that
information for me.

I think they were supposed to have resolved that problem by adding the
Synth1Port= argument.

Again Retta, thanks all over the place.

Hi, Jim,
Have you checked Fs's Bulletin on this matter which can be found at:
http://www.hj.com/fs_support/BulletinView.cfm?xQC=306x

Bulletin Type: TSN Number: 13149
Date Posted: 09/25/2002
Product Name: JAWS for Windows
Version: 4.5
Category: Sound Cards
Short Description:
On computers with multiple sound cards, if Automatically Start JAWS is
set, JAWS uses the first installed sound card.

Problem:
If two separate sound cards are installed on the same computer, and if
JAWS 4.02 or 4.50 is set to start automatically, JAWS uses the card that
was INSTALLED
first. This occurs even if you set the second sound card as the default
device.

For example, if you first installed a SB Audigy, then installed the
SoundBlaster PCI as a second sound card. You set the SoundBlaster as your
Default Device
within Control Panel. when JAWS is started automatically, it still uses
the first card, the Audigy.

Solution:
If you exit and then restart JAWS 4.x, it then uses the Default soundcard
as set in Control Panel.

A longer term solution would be to remove both sound cards and install the
preferred card first, then the second card, then reinstall JAWS.

Kindest Regards:
Reta

Subject: a frustrating problem.

Hi Folks:
I am using a Delta 66 soundcard as well as the computer's onboard sound
chip. When I boot the computer with JAWS set to load automatically at
startup, JFW always loads up on the Delta 66 soundcard even though the
onboard chip is set as the default soundcard. I have tried adding the
Synth1 Port options in the JFW.ini file but had no success. As it stands,
I have to unload and reload JAWS in order to load up on the internal sound
chip.

Is there some way to configure windows so that JAWS will allways load up
on the default card?

Thanks all over the place gang.

Re: replay-radio v5.21 available

2004-09-26 Thread Ron and/or Susan Denis
Replay radio is one of the programs that allows one to record streams from the
internet for later listening. ONe can schedule it by radio show, station stream and
the program will be recorded and stored in wav or levels of mp3. It can be used to
record from other sources, but on line streams if its major strength. The site did
not seem down when last checked. In typing the address, their is a hyphen between
replay and radio:

Re: INTERNET RADIO

2004-09-26 Thread Christopher Maule-Oatway
Hello,
To answer your last question: no, you can't play real audio streams in
Winamp using the Tara plug-in.

As for the rest of your questions, I can be of little help, since I have
never had these problems. I am on NTL broadband, 750 KBPS. I am running
windows98 SE, and the processor speed is half yours. My screen reader is
Hal, and I use an external speech synthesiser. I have Winamp, Windows
Media Player 9 and Real Alternative on my PC, and all play internet streams
without a problem.

Some suggestions: make sure that the connection speed and buffering rate of
the players is suitable for broadband - no doubt you have done this
already, but it is always worth checking. Try turning off your screen
reader's voice before clicking on the 'Listen' link - perhaps the speech is
conflicting with the streaming audio. Do you get to a station from a web
site, or have you bookmarked the station in your favourites list? If the
latter, is the result still the same?

Hope this helps, though it is rather clutching at straws.
Cheers,
Christopher

Hi Everyone
Apologies if people have seen this message on another list. I sent it
to the Access-UK list, with little luck.
I have recently got broadband and am anxious to listen to all kinds of
radio stations without the constant interruptions that used to occur
when I had a phone line.
I am using Windows 98 second edition on a PC with a 2 GHz processor and
256 Mb RAM. I have Realplayer, Winamp and Windows media Player
installed. I use Window-Eyes 4 and JAWS 5.10.
I appear to be able to listen to BBC stations with few problems,
although recently i tried to listen to the cricket on the net and,
although it tells me I am listening to it, I can hear no sound.
If I try to listen to most other stations either it plays for a few
seconds and locks up or Realplayer or Windows media Player fails and I
see the message Mainapplication Window.
One strange thing: I use Window-eyes or JAWS 5.10. If I use
Window-Eyes the station is more likely to run for a few seconds and
lock up the PC, if I use JAWS I get the MainApplicationWindow message.
Can anyone throw any light on this?
Also, is it possible to use Winamp to play RealPlayer and windows media
streams?
Apologies for such a convoluted message, but any help would be
appreciated.

Tascam CD-VT1 - Portable Vocal and Instrumental CD Player

2004-09-26 Thread Bobcat
I just saw an advert for a interesting CD player for musicians. It has
looping, slow down, and voice canceling, plus mic inputs with effects.

Wonder about it's accessibility. Don't know when I'll get a chance to see
one in person.

Hi, Steve, yes, other than the fact that the one file has a .zip
extencion, and you have to unzip it, they are identical.

accelerated speed in total recorder

I have just started to use total recorder. How do I enable accelerated
recording. I don't seem to be able to get it to do that. Also, is there
a way to do a bunch of files at once with their original file names? I
want to convert RM files to MP3. Thank you. Kurt
