Re: programs for what I want to do

2005-06-08 Thread Gary Wood
Hi Bruce. Thanks for that. I really like using Nero. A strange thing
happened: I burned a CD, but part of the files wouldn't play, even in
Winamp. I must have started a project, then went out of it, thinking that I
could get back to it. Nero said, File not found. Do you want to remove it
from the compilation? I didn't, thinking there was nothing wrong; so it
looks like I may have to burn my compilation over again; but actually, I
think Nero is the best, and I took the word from some who say it's more
accessible than Easy CD Creator.

You could, but it's not much cheaper than Nero, has much less
functionality, is not completely accessible despite the propaganda, and in
my personal, one-person's opinion, is overpriced and overrated.

is what I want to do. Download songs off the net and put them on cds.
and burn my own cds and later possibly converting the songs or cd to mp3
files and putting them on dvds. I hate to spend $79 on Nero if it has a
bunch of features I don't need such as video stiff. What about winamp or
another program.

Regretfully, because I'd love to be able to support a product like Premier
and its accessibility-focused company, I have to agree with Bruce, here.
I

recently had a pretty unsatisfying experience exploring the program on a
trial basis. Strange things went wrong,

for instance, when I wasn't able to figure out how to move files from one
list to another for burning a CD (the application's not as accessible or
intuitive/self-explanatory as it seems to think it is) and activated the
Burn button prematurely, it crashed the program every time, making it that
much harder to learn by trying.

And in the .mp3 ripping area, the demo version somehow got hold of a CD
that

I don't even own and, no matter what I put into my CD drive to rip from,
displayed only the tracks from that other, phantom CD. And even ripped
them

to disk!

I wrote to the company by email about these two problems (I'm sure not
about

to call them by the euphemism issues, because they shouldn't even have
been on the proverbial table at all, in the first place), I received no
explanation or advice, even though a lone executive honcho wrote back once
and told me that the engineers must have lost my message, and recommended I
write again, but still I never heard a thing from them.

On top of it, the interface was overlabeled in a silly, clunky way,
lacked

the hotkey commands you'd think an accessibility group would strive to
supply, and, just as Bruce says, wasn't nearly as screen reader or user
friendly as it's made out to be.

I was pretty disappointed by my experience. Also, in terms of comparative
functionality, the thing can't copy a CD (I'm pretty sure, anyway) and
doesn't make data CDs for any purpose, including backup.

It's expensive. But the Victor Reader Classic Plus is great. It plays
music CD's, mp3's, and Daisy formatted material on discs. In Daisy
formatted material you can find and stop on sentences, paragraphs,
pages,

chapters, etc. But there are less costly machines. Check out

Hi, well looking at that page it did not look like a very accessible
program for window eyes users. All I really need is a tool to restore
recordings frokm tapes or records and get rid of all of that hiss in
them. I don't need a tool to burn to cds as I allready use primear cd
creator from www.readingmadeeasy.com for my cd productions but just
need a program to remove left over noise and does a good job of it and
not take out artafacts of the audio. I would also like to know if
there is a way to normalize every sample in a file to a sertain level
because I do a lot of recordings on the phone and internet and
sometimes the level of one speaker is lower than the other and I want
to be able to bring them to the same with little manual selection and
lots of work. bye

Hi Nick
I use Diamond Cut 6 (DC6) from tracertek. It works pretty well with
Jaws although it had a bit to go to become fully accessible. There are
hundreds of presets and the interface is pretty accessible through
menus and dialog boxes which can be tabbed around. There may be a
demo.

The site is:

If you have a lively interest in audio matters their site is excellent
for excellent products.

I haven't been following this thread closely, but I think the answer you're
after is this: Most of the CD-burning programs that have been being
discussed here-- Easy CD Creator, Nero, etc.-- all create music CDs of .CDA
files by taking your .mp3, .wma or .wav files and converting them to the
appropriate format without your having to intercede at all. it's just
automatic.

At least this is what I've learned while exploring four or five popular

Hi all. Here's a question from me, Howard Traxler. I've read this
list for
years, but never had much questions .. or answers.

I'm ready to burn an audio CD. All the files are .wav files. Do I
need to
convert them to something else? If so, how would I do that?

Thanks you much.

Ok, I have had it!

2005-06-08 Thread shannon
Hello every one,

I need your help.
I currently have a Sony burner that came with some junk software called B's
Recorder Gold 5, and some think called b's clip.

This thing is giving me nothing but trouble. I have tried for two days to
copy a file on to a CD and no luck. It keeps locking up my system.
I have tried four different disks so I don't think that it is a flawed disk.
I am able to play CDS in this drive and the add remove hardware option in
control panel says that this hardware is working fine.I am running Windows
2000 professional. I have no idea how to tell what exact model of Sony
burner I have. I am also using the screen reader Window Eyes 5.0.

So now to my plea for help.
I think I need new software. I am no professional. I would like to be able
to copy CDS, make compilation disks and copy the occasional data files or
photo files for others to CDS.

This is what I would like to accomplish. I would also like to do this for
as little money as possible. Like I said I am no professional. I think that
this burner has made five CDS in its life time thus far. One reason is that
this software is just not the friendliest.

If you lovely people could point me in the right direction I would be
eternally grateful.
Thanks s much in advance.

Hi Howard. It depends on whether you want to make a music CD or an MP3
CD. You can put up to ten hours of music on an MP3 CD, if that's the way
you want to go.

I know you said that you've tried 4 different CD's, but have you tried CD's
from different brands? Some older CD burners only like certain
manufacturers. As far as figuring out what Device you have, go to device
manager by opening control panel, then system, then going to the hardware
tab, then activating the device manager button. You steps may be a bit
different. Then open the CD ROM tree view, and your devices info should be
listed. If you need more info on the device, then just press enter.
Hope this helps?

Thank you for telling me how to find out what the drive is. It is;
   SONY CD RW CRX 220E1

I have tried two different disks made from Office Depot and two made by

This stupid software does worn that if there any third party recording
applications on the system that it may not work properly. It only wants
certain drivers in the win 32 file. I looked and there no other aspi files
in this folder. So I am stumped.
I did have sonic stage for my mini disk installed and I have already deleted
the programs that came with that.

Should I just dump this program and get a new one? Is this drive too old to
work with the newer programs?
Thanks again for the reply.

Hi Anders.

I'd use windows explorer to view the folder and set the view options so that
the arrange icons by menu is set to type. You'll then see all of your WAV
files together. Cut and paste themn to another folder and then use CDEX to
re-encode them to OGG.

Regards.

She had to tweak the registry for the burner to work.
Now here is the thing, my sister is on holidays, and I cant remember

Try doing a search in google or dog pile for the drive model with
windows 2000 problem or similar tacked on the end, I am sure you will

I would certainly try software that is more accessible. I use Nero, and it
works great. You also may want to try and update the drivers for the CD Rom
drive. Windows Update may have updated drivers for the CD Rom Drive.

can't copy and paste .mp3 file

2005-06-08 Thread Yardbird
I'm mystified. I've ripped several of my music CDs to .mp3 files in order
to be able to either play them on my computer or copy them to a mobile
device. And, for the most part, everything has been working fine.

But there are several files I've encountered, one among the tracks of one
CD, another from another CD, in no particular pattern, that, when I select
them in Windows Explorer and press Control C to copy them to the Clipboard
so I can paste them into the drive where my USB mobile device is plugged in,
I get the message No text selected. Now, I'm pretty certain that the
highlight is on the file, given that I've just arrowed to it, and Jaws has
spoken its filename in the list view of that folder, perfectly normally.

This isn't about all tracks from a particular CD in its folder. It's just
one file, now and then. In at least one case, it's a file I've previously
copied in the same fashion to another player, although sometimes that was
done using the Audible Manager interface from audible.com to put the file on
that other player.
n .
Any ideas? I'm completely baffled, this is so odd.

Thanks,
Daniel
