It really is! I'm ok at piano, but there's no way I could record the
keyboard parts for all of the songs I want to sing. Karaoke is a real life

 Hi all!
I would like to record myself singing over karaoke tracks in sound
 forge.
It would probably be easier for me to rip the tracks to mp3 beforehand.
Would I need to mix the two recordings together, or could I feasibly
 play
the karaoke track, sing into my microphone, and record them both at the
same time? If either of these possibilities seems to be the easiest, I
will need step by step instructions since I just got sound forge
 yesterday. Thanks!

Actually, not to badly. At least it finds all the hot-spots and
identifies them as custom controls. It even reads most of them as what

of which are on screen, I just have to find them and figure out a way
of reading a pre-defined frame when a keyboard key is pressed. As I

know what the advanced features are that are analogous to what I know
I can do in JAWS with frames, scripts and hotkeys to trigger the

Re: Output v DSP Plug-In for Compression

2005-11-11 Thread Shane Christenson
all I gotta say is, wow. I was so impressed with this thing from the start,
I bought it. I love the compression--better in my oppinion than audio
stocker or rocksteady, or even the thomas limiter. i think at it's defaults,
it sounds perfect. The compression's definitely there, but it's very subtle.
I've found that with the other compressers mentioned above, that they choak
the sound somewhat. This volume logic plug-in is beautiful, and definitely
worth the 20 bucks.

Like I said, zero accessibility, darn darn darn!

I think Sound Solution, which is also a
multiband processor and free, is more accessible. The fields are not
automatically spoken, but at least you can tab between them in Sound
Solution, and label them. It's also a DSP plug-in, which has its
advantages.

 Agreed.

Regarding Stream Solo, this is an intriguing plug-in but I suspect it will
not be suitable for the way most Shoutcasters broadcast. This isn't a
substitute for your current encoder of choice, such as Shoutcast or the
SAM
Encoders. Instead, it's a processor that feeds processed audio to your
encoder. There are plenty of custom controls in this application to set
the
parameters of the processing, but at least you can tab between them so I
suspect they could be recustomised and labeled.

Were you able to find the one to change the audio processing preset?

What happens with this application is that once you turn the processor on,
audio is taken from the input of your sound card and fed back, slightly
delayed through the output of your sound card, complete with processing.
This means that if you are disconcerted by the delay between when you talk
and when something is echoed back, you wouldn't want to use this on the
one
sound card. You'd instead want one sound card dedicated to taking the
output
of another sound card and sending it to your encoder like Sam or
Shoutcast.
That said, I know Ots DJ also has this slight delay, and some Shoutcasters
don't mind it.

A two-card system would probably be optimal, yes.

Very interesting stuff, and it would be awesome if we could convince these
guys to make Volume Logic more accessible by giving good keyboard access.
It's very CPU efficient for what it does, which is a really impressive
thing. I note though that the last version was in January, so hope it is
still under active development. Perhaps it's just stable and they don't
need
to keep releasing updates.

That would be nice. I tried emailing them at several different
addresses found in several different read-me files from the VL and
Octimax_ plug-in documentations, and so far, nothing.

Re: Using old hardware to process audio for stereo

2005-11-11 Thread Brent Harding
I think I got it in 2000 or so, but I know it's been out of warranty awhile,
and Dell repair could be more expensive than it's worth. There well could be
cheaper processing solutions out there than buying another old laptop of
unknown condition on Ebay, especially considering Sound Solution made
noticeable lag on my previous 1 gig desktop system, and I believe the Dell
is probably a 333 mhz with some small amount of ram, I imagine.

Could one, with an old cheap laptop bought on Ebay, or potentially with
 an
old one I already have that needs repair from Dell, turn it into a good
sound processor for my stereo using winamp and sound solution? I want to
 be
able to cut down the harsh S problem I hear in music that doesn't come
 from
FM radio, keep levels more constant, and protect the speakers against
 those
deadly loud blips that you can get from burning stuff on CD.

I am lucky to have a stereo with the required tape loop connections that
 the
tape button will toggle on and off, so the stereo would send and receive
 the
audio the right way. I was planning to put the winamp linerec playlist in
the startup, so if it locks up I could just power it off and restart,
 since
I'd like to put the laptop out of the way once I get it sounding good.
 The
problem I see is that since the system plays the audio coming in to the
 line
in without the help of winamp, when I process through winamp, I would
 have
the mixed signal. How could I mute it so I have just the processed
 signal?
Or is it just a bad all-around idea to save old hardware this way?

Hey Allison!I'm not sure which sound card you're using, but I've got a
sound blaster Live Audigy 2 and it's got a feature called What You Hear.
Without getting too technicle, the upshot is that if you have it turned
 on,
you can record everything going through your sound card and have it either
broadcasted or recorded somewhere. So, I'm wondering if maybe you
 couldn't
use that type of feature to just sing over the top of your tracks and save
them as mp3 files in either goldwave or sound forge?
You can find out what kind of sound card you have by going to your windows
volume control. Then, go to properties. Tab around in the dialogue there
and then you should hear something like, mixer device combo box, and
 then
it'll tell you which one you have. For example, mine says SB Audigy Audio
FF80, and it's the only one in the list. So if you have that kind of
 sound
card, or something very similar to it, what you'd want to do is to stay in
that particular dialogue, and then you'd find the radio button that says,
adjust audio for recording. then if you tab over, you'll see a list of
components you can possibly control. Not all of them may be checked, but
I'll betcha most of them probably are. So look in that list there, and if
what you hear is there, and it's not checked, it's as simple as checking
 a
box and then pressing the ok button. Now you'd be in a series of
 controls,
so you could just tab around and when you find the what you hear option in
the list, if it even exists this is, but if it does, this is where you can
make fine adjustments. This way you could get your volume levels
perfect. Then if all goes well, you *should* be able to start Sound Forge
or Goldwave recording, and then play your music and then sing over the top
of it and save it as an mp3 like you wanna do! Hope this helps. if you
 need
more help, write me offlist and I'll try to help you more if I can!

Re: recording vocals with sound forge

2005-11-11 Thread Bruce Toews
It would. I know you asked this question before about Gold Wave. I'll just
tell you that it will be no easier to accomplish what you want to do with
Sound Forge than it would d be with Gold Wave. What I did for the tracks I
recorded myself was to put on a pair of headphones, play the karaoke file
in Winamp through the headphones and record my vocal track. Then I trimmed
the unneeded beginning and end off the vocals, applied whatever effects I
wanted to the vocals (my method gives you the advantage of having the
vocals isolated), and mixed them in with Gold Wave. The proceedure for SF
wil be similar.

Would I need to mix the two recordings together, or could I feasibly play

Fw: Accessability of Sam Broadcaster Program and its usability for Blind People

Subject: Accessability of Sam Broadcaster Program and its usability for Blind
People

Hello Spacial Audio.com and List!

When I purchased Sam Broadcaster, I was led to believe it was one of the most
usable and exciting broadcasting programs around. However, as soon as I opened
it up, I found out that it is pretty tough for a blind person to use. I was a
bit perplexed at this because it does pretty much what other similar programs
do and those programs seem to be able to make their programs accessable for all
people. Even Winamp, a free program, makes an effort to make their programs
useful to all.

Well, I even signed up for your streaming service, but got nowhere with signing
up for the program and using it. I had to cancel my subscription because I
could not use your program to sign up. I could get a sighted person to click
on the moving screen to get things done, but this option is not always
available to me. Anyway, I want to get it done myself.

I am not sure why the design is what it is, as all I and other blind people
want is to be able to set up and manipulate our play lists, connect to the
server, play music and/or talk on the radio, and enjoy the program like anyone
else.

I am always surprised at companies wo say, We are a small company and are not
interested in making our program useful to all. Programmers write code and it
is no easier or harder to write one like yours than it is to write one using
conventional methods. the real question is why doesn'' your company feel it
is advantageous to make your program accessale to blind people, since blind
people are one of the major groups who use such programs. I have purchased
Sam Broadcaster on a four-month installment program. I am wondering should I
take back my money and try another program or give you an opportunity to make
the program useful to me.

I like the way your auto dj works (easy), but that is where it stops. Even the
microphone feature and talk feature are not usable, as I can't find them. My
wife can because she can see, but this does not help me, especially when she is
away. My wife is beautiful and helpful, but she cannot read for me when she is
in downtown Los Angeles working or sleeping o taking a shower, when I need
something done with your program. I want to be able to use it.

From what I know, the Delphi system is the culprit, as it is designed to
have things moving on the screen that sighted people can just point a mouse
at and click and things work. A database and playlist can be made accessible
and does not have to be floating. You can have things on the screen and make
them work similar to other windows features.

You know, XM Radio, a similarly small company, also had a weird setup,
whereby blind people could not see the screen with screen readers; yet they
worked with us and now their site is usable. They have edit screens and boxes
and the features are true, so we can find hem with our cursor and/or mouse
keys. I am not asking you to change your program for me or other blind people,
just make it accessible. Put all of your featuresd in a menu section so we can
use them (text file type). In othr words, give me line command capability or
menu driven features that do everything from the keyboard as sighted people can
do with the mouse. For example, if I want to search for a song, give me a
command way to do this (edit field for search menu item; then tab to go and
have a box where the song shows up to be played.). Mike set up (put it in the
menus and I can set it there and check or uncheck it to make it work). You can
easily make all of your screen features doable in your menu structure. In
other words, if you wish, make an accessible version, which a blind person
could invoke through your configuration menu item. You could alsomake your
program available to screen reader companies to plan for it.

I have heard that this company is not interested in working with the blind
users of the program to make your program usable. If this is the case, it is
unfortunate. However, it it is the case, then let me know and I can take my
money back and move onto a program that will work for me. I like Sam
Broadcaster, but only if I can use all of it. Connecting to my broadcast
server and playing my music should b easy, not a hard task.

I won't drag this out, but I want my voice heard. The company could put out a
help feature telling people how to access the program or put out a blind
friendly product with your program being designed to work with screen readers
and voice output. The same programmer who writes code

Hi there, well the subject sums it up. What do people find to be the best
audio editing/recording sostware to use? In particular, programs that work
 well with either window-eyes/jaws?

I know that sound forge is popular for music, and there's also studio
 recorder for spoken word content.

, but I note that the jaws help says that the support for sound forge is
for version 4.5... This was from the jfw 5.1 help.

Anyone had luck with later versions?

Also, has anyone tried the open-source editor, audacity? How's it's
 accessibility?

 tia,

 Arthur.

 Hi!

Wwish it was as simple as simply using a cable as Peter seems to suggest.

If you mean a separate turntable, i.e. one that is not built into a
 stereo
system, you would probably need some kind of pre-amp between the
 turntable
 and the computer.

If the turntable is built into a stereo system, then you can simply use
 a
connecting cable to connect to the line-in of your sound card and the
 line
out of the stereo system that you connect a tape deck to.

Wonder if the sam encoders for winamp are accessible for media player?
Spacial audio is well-known for being able to integrate with that stuff, and
it will do requests live. It's a shame that they didn't build accessibility

Re: TRANSFERRING WMA COPYRIGHTED FILES TO IRIVER H320

2005-11-11 Thread Brent Harding
Media player probably has to be used to do it so they play. I think audible
files, as long as the device is activated, will transfer. I was thinking of
getting a CF reader as the Pac Mate is real slow in transferring files to
it, if I download to my computer and just drop the files in the my
documents\audible player folder, hopefully it would work.

Hi all

I believe that it is possible to play wma files on my iriver h320. However,
is it possible to simply transfer copyrighted wma files through windows

the files to an mp3 player? Must windows media player be used for this?

Hi
I like and use Adobe Audition - the scripts work well in both edit and

The program was formerly cool Edit Pro.
For hundreds of presets in audio restoration Diamond Cut 6 from Tracertek is

Hi there, well the subject sums it up. What do people find to be the best
audio editing/recording sostware to use? In particular, programs that work
 well with either window-eyes/jaws?

I know that sound forge is popular for music, and there's also studio
 recorder for spoken word content.

, but I note that the jaws help says that the support for sound forge is
for version 4.5... This was from the jfw 5.1 help.

Anyone had luck with later versions?

Also, has anyone tried the open-source editor, audacity? How's it's
 accessibility?

 tia,

 Arthur.

Re: Output v DSP Plug-In for Compression

2005-11-11 Thread Steve Matzura
Wow Shane, that's a rave if ever I heard one, andI couldn't agree
more. What I like about it just as much as its subtle hand on the
compression knob is the volume-raising effect it has on soft intros
without the pump sound you hear when the loud parts come in. Also, if
my subway- and datacenter-ruined ears do not deceive me, I detect a
bit of sonic expansion. Listen to something with a lot of stereo
reverb on the center channel. For example, Gordon Lighbtfoot's The
Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald is a perfect example. The voice
reverb on the sides seems louder to me than without VL turned on.

I'm just crazy about the thing. I just wish now we could get it
through their heads at either Octiv or Plantronics to give us a
slightly better interface for all the sliders and knobs and whatever
else it's got that we can't get to.

Mediansoft troubles

2005-11-11 Thread Brent Harding
Hi. I wanted to try mediansoft batch converter for converting video files I
record on my TV card to wav or mp3 files in batch, as I have a large folder
of them. How do I get the debuggers off of here? I need to have every last
trace of anything that looks like a debugger off, as various programs
complain of a debugger being detected and they close. I don't have visual
studio or anything like that, and I just uninstalled my antivirus, nod32, to
no avail. Do they actually expect me to get rid of spybot and ad aware also?
I have no clue how to right code, much less debug it, so wouldn't have had
use to install a debugger on here, as I wouldn't know what to do with one. I
was going to buy the extract audio converter program, but I would like
something that performs that function in batch so that I can get this folder
full of shows converted overnight. Thanks.

Suggestions for a MP3 mixing program?
