Plextalk PTR1 was on when removing flash card, help!

2006-02-08 Thread stever2525
Hi this is Steve. I know this is a lengthy post, but here it goes.
I have had my Plextalk PTR1 for about 2 and a half years. I made a mistake I
had not
done before and wonder what I can do. I was recording for while and I had
the key describer lock on. When I was finished recording, I forgot I had the
lock on and pressed stop. My mind was elsewhere, because I also thought I
shut down the unit. Well, a little later, I pressed the button to release
the card and heard the error sound followed by drive error. I immediately
knew what I had done, but too late. When I put the card back in, it could
not be read. I then checked the available space on the card and the used
space was still accounted for.
I then put the card in my card reader and checked with the computer. I could
see everything except the MP3 file. On the PTR1, I didn't try to erase the
entire card, just in case there was something else I could do. If I can't
find an answer, I will then unfortunately have to erase the entire card. If
then, the used space is still accounted for, I will then know that part of
the card can no longer be used.
Sorry, for the long rambling, but any suggestions would be appreciated.
thank you

Re: Moving drm/wma files from Windows Media Player 10 to an Ilo

2006-02-08 Thread Kathy szinnyey
Hi, guys and gals! I'd posted a message on Sunday and thought I'd re-post
with a little more information, since I didn't get a bite. Any help would be
much appreciated:
Thanks, Tim, for the info. Unfortunately, what I now know is that I need to
back up a bit and learn a thing or two about Windows Media Player. I'm using
Widows Media Player 10, and my public library uses NetLibrary, not Overdrive.
I'm used
to mostly cutting and pasting files using Windows Explorer, which works pretty
well when I'm moving files from my computer to say, the bookport.
Unfortunately,
the only way I can get these drm/wma files out of my computer and on to this
Ilo is through Windows Media Player, and I'm totally lost. I think once I
can figure out how to select the files I want to move, I'll be able to follow
these Overdrive instructions to get them into the Ilo, but I'm just lost.
Any tutorials out there, or any simple instructions to help me out? Because
I work in our public library, I also want to instruct other blind folks about
how they can download these books as well. Sorry for the long post, but I
truly would appreciate the help. I also think it's
a shame that Windows Media Player is not so accessible, as Microsoft has often
said it was committed to be. Or am I way off base here? I'd like to get
friendly with Windows Media Player if at all possible!

Re: Sound Forge 8, JAWS 7, and repetitive Speech

2006-02-08 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Nolan:

The problem that you are having is due to the fact that the saving process
is continually updated highlighted text. Jaws, by default, automatically
speaks highlighted text.

If you press Insert-S, (screen echo options), you can cycle through those
screen echoing options which are: all, highlighted which is the default, or
none. Just set the option to none while the program is in the saving
process; afterwhich, you would want to set the window speaking option back
to highlighted.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Sound Forge 8, JAWS 7, and repetitive Speech

I'm just getting truly immersed into JAWS, so please forgive my incredibly
 inept question.

I'm using Sound Forge 8 with JAWS 7, as the subject line indicates. When
 I
save a file in Sound Forge, JAWS repeatedly speaks the name of the file
 and
gives the percentage saved. I've turned off the progress announcements
 for
this particular application. Not only do I hear the progress bar, I hear
 it
in the most annoying way. It begins by saying s s s s s several times,
 then
sa sa sa sa sa sa then it adds the v and so on. I've no doubt that there
are scores of you who are using JFW 7 with Sound Forge 8. I suspect
 you've
all long ago solved this, and again I ask your forgiveness in advance for
such a truly off the wall question.

Is there some kind of view I need to change in Sound Forge to end the
repetitive speaking of the progress bar? I'd love to get a percentage
 every
few seconds, but I doubt seriously turning on the progress bar would
 change
the fact that the screen reader just continues to add letters and numbers
until it speaks the entire progress bar.

It seems to behave that way whether I'm using the PC cursor or the JAWS
cursor. I've no doubt this is a simple fix--probably embarrassingly
 simple.
So please, by all means, embarrass me with the right answer. smile

 Kindest Regards,

 Nolan Crabb

Goldwave markers help

2006-02-08 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi. I have GoldWave 5.12 and am wondering how to move using the keyboard
commands for the markers. Let's say for example I have part of a sound
selected at start: 1:00.00 and finish: 1:05.00 making it a 5 second
selection. Now let's say that I want to slide the start marker slightly
to the right using shift-right-arrow. If I do that the marker either
does not move or it moves all the way over to the finish marker. So,
what I'm asking is how do I tell GoldWave to only move the marker by a
small amount of space, let's say 1 tenth of a second or even 1
one-hundreth of a second. I have a feeling this has to do with the zoom
level but I cannot really find the answer I need. The same thing happens
to me if I try to move the finish marker to the left using
control-shift-left-arrow. It moves way too much and does not allow for
small fine-tuned editing.

Thanks.

Hi:

Best to go with winamp and the pluggins to start your radio broadcast. I
did use live365's software and didn't find it very accessible with JFW.
And then decide if you are going to stream live or upload your content to a
server for automation broadcasting. I tried it both ways and for me, I
prefer live broadcasting.
Hope this gets you started.

Here are the changes in this version:

In rare cases Nero crashed when getting free drive space

well, soulseek, like any p to p client has what people offer.

The nice thing about soulseek is that the quality of mp3s tend to be good,
the files are sorted, and it's a community atmosphere. There's a user
 info
option, and a lot of peple put down clear rules. Such as, if you don't
 shre
you'll be banned, if you queue up more than 2 albums or 30 songs, you'll
 be
 banned.

The chat feature needs jaws scripts. Right now, it all appears as one
 huge
 line.

My advice is to try the client out, if you don't like it, than no harm
 done.

 Nolan Crabb

well, soulseek, like any p to p client has what people offer.

The nice thing about soulseek is that the quality of mp3s tend to be
 good,
the files are sorted, and it's a community atmosphere. There's a user
 info
option, and a lot of peple put down clear rules. Such as, if you don't
 shre
you'll be banned, if you queue up more than 2 albums or 30 songs, you'll
 be
 banned.

The chat feature needs jaws scripts. Right now, it all appears as one
 huge
 line.

My advice is to try the client out, if you don't like it, than no harm
 done.

I have just purchased a new computer. It is a Sony Vaio, and for the most
part, I love it, but it only has one microphone jack and it is on the
 front.
I don't like having to have the access door open all the time just to
accommodate a microphone, so I am thinking about using a USB mic instead.
Can anyone please recommend one that you consider to be high quality? I
don't do much recording, but certainly do use Skype and MS Messenger

for voice chat. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

 Thanks.
