Re: real tech sound quality issues

2006-03-16 Thread Bobcat
Paul. Is your sound distorted all the time or only during loud passages?
Does the source (MP3 or CD) make a difference? Have you tried the Windows
volume control and mixer?

There is also an extra set of controls for the Realtek ac'97 which includes
speaker configuration, effects, and hardware equalizer. Go to Multi-Channel
Sound Manager in control panel.

I had some crackling with my ac'97 when I got this computer but was fixed
with a couple driver updates. This was slight crackling that was heard
during quiet passages. But, the sound wasn't distorted.

RE: pay pal

2006-03-16 Thread Pam Drake
I didn't understand it at first; but the reason they don't make the
recordings understandable is the same reason the graphical ccaptchas,
as they are called, are blurry; a fact I didn't know.

They don't want bots being able to subscribe.

I don't know of any bot that can recognize speech, but there may be
some, or some may be developed, and the folks at Pay Pal and other
subscription services don't want to take that chance.

The term captcha, for those who haven't been following the Google
accessibility verification petition, stands for "completely automatic
process to tell computers and humans apart." That pretty much
explains it, I think.

As I posted earlier, I downloaded the verification file, set Winamp
on "repeat", and just listened to the thing till I was able to fill
out the proper letters. If you mess up you do get additional
chances. I don't know if there's a limit but I tried it several
times before I finally got it right.

Hth.

Pam

Re: mp3 players

2006-03-16 Thread Jeff Samco
I have a question to piggy-back onto this thread. I already have an
iRiver iFP 795 which I really like. However, I would like a second
and simpler and inexpensive flash-based MP3 player. I should also
add, I would like it to be relatively accessible without sight and
about 256 or 512 MB.

What suggestions does anyone have for something available from a
local store or on the internet. I see so many off brands and don't
know what is useable. Thanks so much.

Gold Wave is in fact one of the most accessible programs out there. I've
been using it foabout four years now and have seen few if any
off-the-shelf programs that work as well as Gold Wave does with no

Paul, I have a Real Tech AC97 onboard sound card in this Medion desktop
computer which was purchased approximately three years ago.

I have been absolutely delighted not only with the quality of the sound
from this card but also with the fact that the microphone and aux
volumes are more than adequate, and also with the fact that no hiss is
introduced into the mike circuit by the sound card.

Re: replay AV recordings skipping in MP3 format

2006-03-16 Thread Gary Wood
Hi Joanne! VBR method, variable bit rate is used to get the best quality
for MP3's. Many people use a bit rate for MP3's of 128 KBPS, (kilobits per
second). ABR means average bit rate, where they find an average for a file.

isn't free/just an evaluation. I never expected that it runs like this. It's
depending on how many commands to be used before the limit is reached.
That's cool huh. I never used a trial program like this. But my question is,
lol, it's totally inaccessible! I'm using JAWS 5, makes this thing deepened.
It's a hell using this without knowing how can I make my first record, how
can it be edited after, how can play it after recording etc? Even the help

take the thread here before about these things seriously! I disregarded
those because I believe, almost all can be done through route JAWS to PC

counting of commands because of my experimentation of this f... software.
I'm not mad here, I'm planning to download JAWS 7.0 to have another try

Roger,

You must have an account with Pay Pal in order to use the
service. If you like, I can send you a set of messages I wrote to
Troy off list, and later combined into one for Andy. Anyone who
wants this, please feel free to contact me off list; but please don't
do so on list. I don't want the list to be cluttered up with "Me,
too, please" messages on my account.

doesn't like so I have to funnel money through my savings if I wanted to use
bank transfer as the payment method. Thank goodness for Visa debit cards.

Re: pay pal

2006-03-16 Thread Pam Drake
Ray,

Signing up with Pay Pal is fairly accessible. I say, "fairly"
because, and this is true of the graphical captchas themselves, the
audio characters you hear will be garbled, kind of like the
clandestine short-wave radio stations or a twelfth-generation
cassette copy. But if you listen carefully, especially for
letterers like "B, C, t, D" etc. you will be able to sign up just fine.

I almost gave up on it at one time, but I saved the audio file and
set Winamp to repeat until I got the letters figured out.

Once you've been finalized as a Pay Pal member you will be able to
complete transactions with no problem with any screen reader.

A word about signup; what they will do is deposit a small amount,
less than a dollar if I remember correctly, into your bank
account. Once your bank accepts the transaction you will then be
validated with Pay Pal as legitimate and from then you'll be able to
take advantage of all their services.

Re: pay pal

2006-03-16 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. Yes, you do need an account to use paypal. when you want to buy
something, you click a pay pal button on a site you're on which takes
you to a page where you can log in. then you are shown the product
you're buying and it's as simple as clicking one little pay button.
If you're purchasing Jonathan's Google tutorial, do not! close your
browser after you've made your purchase or you will lose the download
link for it. it appears on the page after you pay for it. Signing up
with paypal is also straight forward, and the audio file is actually
not bad either, a least from memory.

Re: SoundRecorderFreeSoftware!

2006-03-16 Thread Rick Harmon
Hi,

I hate to say it, but you get what you pay for. If you want a good sound
recorder then you will have to pay something for it.

I know you may not be able to afford soundfordge but you might be able to
afford goldwave or something similar.

Before everyone bombards me, I live on a fixed income and can't afford alot
either, but I pick and choose things to buy and I can assure you something
like goldwave is a great buy if you are going to do serious audio work on a
budget.

Hi list,

I went to

http://www.sound-recorder.com/

and saw a list of free sound recorders as stated there. One of them is the
easy recorder which was I think discussed here sometimes. Question, has
anyone here tried to get there and review every recorder that that site
offers? If so, can you suggest/tell me if all of them are free? Suggest the
best/free. I want the GoldWave but it's not free I think. I need a free
sound recorder without mentioning the one that is capable for even a simple
editing feature.

I took a look at that site for you and It didn't really appear to me like
anything was really free. They had lots of sponsored links so I guess it's
just a clearing house type of thing with lots of everything. Most of what I
saw was shareware stuff.

http://www.sound-recorder.com/

and saw a list of free sound recorders as stated there.

Everything but the sign-up process is quite accessible. They do provide a
link which is supposed to let you hear an audio version of the special
characters you have to type in but I tried it and the sound quality was so
bad I couldn't understand it. This is a very reasonable solution if they
could simply make their recording understandable.

Since I stopped doing main Menu, a lot of people have urged me to
produce downloadable tutorials. So in my weekends and evenings, I've
been putting my first together.

One of the first issues I had to confront was how to secure the content.
I investigated a number of options, and eventually came to the
conclusion that all of them will disadvantage the people I want to help
most, those who struggle with computers. So I've come up with a concept
I am calling trustware. It's simple, the only thing stopping you from
sharing the tutorial with your friends, is trust. It takes a lot of
research, time and energy to put these tutorials together. I've tried to
keep the price low in order to keep the price within everyone's reach.
So if you like the tutorial, and you'd like to see more produced, please
support this effort by not passing it on, and by encouraging others to
buy. If I'm being naive and I only sell one or two copies, then
obviously this will be the only one I produce. So now the details of
this first tutorial.

Jonathan Mosen's Get going with Google is a comprehensive two hour audio
tutorial unlocking the secrets of the world's most powerful search

I have come to the conclusion that whether the feed is mono or stereo
depends on the station putting it out. A couple of the stations, KPFK,
KALD that were in mono I think their streams are that way, but I am
 still
thinking about it. I went to KUSC 91.5 which was in stereo which leads
me to believe that it is the station and not replay that is at fault.
However, if somebody could check out KSPC and see if it plays please
 let
me know. I can't get it to play here. Kurt
