Help with unmuting

2006-04-11 Thread Jim Portillo
Hi there,

I really need some help from someone who can really explain things, because I
truly don't know a lot when it comes to this stuff.
I'm trying to use Total Recorder to record from my minidisk recorder. I
figured that I'd either use the Line-In recording source or the Microphone,
which ever sounds better.
The thing is that I'm not able to hear anything from the speakers or
headphones. I have a feeling the microphone or line-in setting is muted. I
went to sounds and sound schemes to see about unmuting them, but I couldn't
find what I was looking for. Then I went to the Accessories submenu in the
start menu and went to Entertainment thinking I'd find them there. No luck.
How and where can I unmute this?

Does anyone have a better idea of how I can record something from a Sony
Minidisk recorder on to my computer? I know Sonic Stage doesn't really work
with JAWS, right?
Any help is needed badly because I need to get something from a minidisk.
Thank you.

Re: Help with unmuting

2006-04-11 Thread Adrian Spratt
It's late and so I'm rushing. Below I'm copying a similar question that
came in last week and my reply, which apparently helped. I hope it helps in
this case. Last week I didn't have the link to the LAME file at hand, but
here it is:

http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tutorials/install/lame/index.php

- Original Message -
Hi,listers.

I'm using Total RecorderPro4401 and I am unable to record through
microphone. I activated Recording Source and Parameter button and checked
Sound-board radio-button but still can not record via microphone,
although microphone is just working fine in Window's Sound Recorder.

Reply.

in that recorder source setting, tab to the change button. Make sure
microphone is highlighted, then choose an appropriate quality level. Total
Recorder's help is confusing here, but my experience showed me to look for a
program running at 8 kHz. There's more than one 8 kHz choice. You'll notice
one list with mostly word names. Skip that and tab to the next list. At each
item in this second list you'll need to tab back and forth for the numbers.

Once you've made your choice, Make sure you press OK there and then tab
through for the box where you'll assign your new setting a name. I gave my
first experiment the name mike1, then mike2. Then, though it may not be
intuitive, tab again to OK. Pressing enter on your chosen name won't save
 either it or your setting.

You would also be advised to follow the help instructions under quality,
the word you should start typing in once you open help and press alt-i for
index. I believe you tab once, possibly twice, after typing that word for
the topics list. The quality of sound help file recommends you download a
Lame file not included in the TR package. I had to find that file by doing a
Google search. It enables MP3 recording, which expands your TR recorder
source choices.

Re: Nero

2006-04-11 Thread Kevin Lloyd
Hi Chuck.

Can't be of too much help here as I'm not running version 7 but in previous
versions, nero refers to ripping as saving tracks so you might want to look
for options in the menu's and help system for the words 'save tracks' rather
than ripping and extracting.

Regards.

Hi Scott.

You can usually find the version of any program by pressing alt + H to open
the help menu and then arrowing up to the 'about ' option and pressing
enter. The JAWS or screen review cursor is then needed to read the version
number.

Changing the Output Sound Card in the Real Player

2006-04-11 Thread Brian Hansen
Does the latest version of the Real Player allow one to change the output sound
card one is using? I've successfully changed the sound card I use in both

Player to change the setting. I'm trying to direct all of my music, podcasts,

GRIN Seriously, though, yes there's a reason. I love putting gags

Nero 6 Question

I wanted to rip several cds to disc, and each time Nero worked at 4.5X. Is
that the speed it should have used if the drive is relatively new?

Gold Wave v.5.13 Now Released

2006-04-11 Thread Bruce Toews
Gold Wave version 5.13 was just released today. The improvement I'm
happiest about is that it now has faster OGG Vorbis file handling. The URL
is the URL one would expect: www.goldwave.com

AAC questions

2006-04-11 Thread Brandon Hicks
hi all,
i figured out a converter for aac files, however the problem is that winamp now
refuses to play the files, giving me an error report, or a couple times
freezing my pc. I'm using the FAAC encoder with CDex, is there a specific group
of settings that i have to use in order for other players to play the files i
create?
thanks
brandon

Re: Synthesizing Vinyl Crackling

2006-04-11 Thread Robert Hebert
It might take a little creative experimenting but if you can't find the sound
by googling it, you might try crinkling various types of cellophane and dubbing
the sound over the recording you want to modify.

I wouldn't have asked if there wasn't a reason I wanted it, would I?
GRIN Seriously, though, yes there's a reason. I love putting gags
together for my radio show and for friends, so the ability to create this
effect would come in handy if I needed to do a gag where a modern
recording was meant to sound old. Just part of the creative process, or at
least my feeble-minded version of the creative process.

Is there a plugin for Winamp and/or Gold Wave that does a realistic job at
simulating the crackle of a vinyl record?

RE: Synthesizing Vinyl Crackling

2006-04-11 Thread Reed Poynter
How about recording the 3 or 4 seconds of sound between songs on an old
record and duplicating it several times?
