Re: more replay-AV problems

2006-06-16 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. Have you tried listening to these files with another
player? Really, I think Winamp just beats Windows Media player hands
down for playing mp3 files.
Another idea is that you need to remember that Replay A/V is getting
all its content via the net and it needs to have connectivity to
record the streams. Without the net it doesn't work well. So if
you're on a really slow connection, or if you receive lots of
interruptions in your connection, this may happen from time to
time. This is just the nature of the internet sadly. I can't say
exactly why Windows media player crashes, but I would suspect that
the files are incomplete and are therefore corrupted. Try listening
with another player and see if you get the same kind of situation.
   Good luck.

nothing I can do about it. Any suggestions? Kurt

Re: A Winmx question

2006-06-16 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Debbie,

Alt+tab only takes me to different applications. When using the JAWS
scripts for WINMX, the only way I can get it to work with JAWS once the
browse list has loaded is to go to the transfers window with ctrl+t, find
the name of the user, with the JAWS cursor and left click on it. This will
make the list of songs visible to JAWS. I then have to left click on one of
the songs to bring the list into focus.

I was hoping the JAWS scripts would have provided a keystroke for this, but
it appears not.

Hi Dan, after you enter on browse, you should be able to alt tab between the

recording on my thinkpad skips

2006-06-16 Thread Howard Traxler
Hello all, wonder if anyone can help?
I have a thinkpad that's a few years old; trying to record audio through its
sound card. The recording skips occasionally. Not terrible, just enough to
be annoying.

Thinkpad running win 98 SE, using GoldWave 4.26 to record.

Here's maybe a clue to the problem: when i listen to long audio (winamp
2.9) files (half hour radio shows, etc.) there are long pauses in playback
while the cd is being read--this doesn't happen when the file is on the hard
drive. I think it must have something to do with buffering?

Help, please?

Re: replay-av reinstall

2006-06-16 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi
As far as I know, we are up to version 7.21 now. In the options of
each show, make sure you have it set so it captures as an mp3,
instead of the first choice which is stream capture raw windows/real.
and like I said before, it all depends on your internet connection.
If Replay A/V can't keep a good connection to the radio station
you're trying to listen to, you'll have nothing but problems. Make
sure you've chosen a stream that matches up with your connection, in
other words make sure if you're on dialup that you're choosing a
dialup stream. A program like Replay A/V is really meant for someone
on a broadband connection.

That is odd Barry. Once I enter on browse on the context menu, I can alt

For example I just did it and I have

Now once I alt tab to the window, I do have to route Jaws to pc cursor and
arrow down and left click in one of the songs in the list. The alt ctonrol
F to get to the first item in a listview doesn't work.
But I don't have to go back to the transfer window.

I guess some accessibility is better than none with regard to that
audible peak level indicator.

I was thinking of how to make the icon on the screen which tells you
your recorded insert is about to finish and it's time to start talking
again. I don't think either Window-Eyes or JAWS has a hyperactive
graphic mode, where, when the graphic changes, the screenreader
announces its new status. If so, then I need to learn how to use it
quickly.

winamp, was Re: replay-A/V

2006-06-16 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi Kurt
It all depends on what you mean, accessible. That's a broad term,
because everyone's computer abilities are different. The only real
problems that exist with the newest version, 5.23 is with the Media
library. It isn't as easy to get to and access with a screenreader,
however using playlists and playing regular mp3 files, including
those made with Replay A/V are 100% playable.
Plus if you're a JAWS user, I think you will find that you have a
whole lot more control over what your player will and won't do. You
can have Winamp play all the file types it supports by default, or
you can choose from a pretty large list and tell Winamp not to play
certain file types so other players on your system will grab them.
The support for Winamp in JAWS is nothing short of incredible, I
can't imagine using a computer without it.

Anyways, to your Replay A/V problem with it not being able to capture
streams properly, like I was saying, you might like to go to Replay
A/V and find the show or radio station you want to record. Next, tab
around to the tune button and press it. You can then listen to the
station you'll be recording and you can tell if there's any breakup.
On my system I've got Replay A/V set so it givesup after 180 seconds
which is quite a long time. Every time it makes a new connection, it
creates another file which, while not being very convenient, does let
you know there was a connection problem. If all the files are not
playable, something else may be going on, but if you can listen to
these files with Winamp and not another player, then that also means
something's up I'm just not sure what. If you'd like to give Winamp
a try, remember it's free, the direct link is:

nero question

2006-06-16 Thread Tyler Wood
Hi all,

I have nero 7. I was reading in the help or such that there are filters in
the properties of the tracks you want to burn (in the listview of added
tracks). How do I select a filter (for that matter, how do I select multiple
filters in a listbox with JFW?). And, also, I looked through the help file and
couldn't find what the filters mean. Can anyone help me? (how do you adjust the
equilizer and how do I know what I'm adjusting? What does fade in/fade out
mean? all of those-- I don't have an idea what the effects are, simply because
I don't know what I'm looking for, if I have to do it one track at a time, if I
even selected a filter...etc etc...). I'm using a somewhat accessible nero
express (copy and paiste songs into it, but that's the only downside- it could
be a lot worse). Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Heres the story:

As you know my mp3 player wouldn't connect to the computer (I couldn't access
it or anything since it wouldn't show up in my computer no matter what I did)
so I think I'll just return it, since its under worenty. What is a somewhat
accessible player? I'm looking for a fairly high capacity, like 10 giggs or
more. And a good brand, too. Both the players I had (a rio and this PNY) lasted
me 10 months. But if worst comes to worst I'll take whatever you know of, I'm
desperate right now. thanks.

Hi Dan, after you enter on browse, you should be able to alt tab between
 the
transfers window and the browse window for that user. Although I found
 that
I had to arrow down a few lines and left click in the listview of songs
 for
that user then I could arrow up and down the list of songs.

The problem is that, as far as I know, there's no way to separate the
transfers window from the browse window. They sort of overlap each other
unless I'm doing something wrong. I find the feature extremely hard to
 use.

Using Winmx and the Winmx scripts for JAWS, I can get to the search
 window
with ctrl+s, the transfers window with ctrl+t and the network window with
ctrl+n, but if I browse someone else's files, is there a keystroke to get
 to
the browse window? I can't find one in the JAWS help.

 Thanks,
 Barry Chapman

Re: mp3 player accessibility?

2006-06-16 Thread Gary Schindler
I am now using a mymusix player from radio shack. it doesn't record, or has
no resume, but it will play MP3 files just fine. it uses SD cards to hold
the files.
the firmware can be updated when it becomes available for the player.

Subject: mp3 player accessibility?

 Hello,

I know the iriver 100/300 series is accessible, but since they're not in
production anymore, I can't get it.

 Heres the story:

As you know my mp3 player wouldn't connect to the computer (I couldn't
access it or anything since it wouldn't show up in my computer no matter
what I did) so I think I'll just return it, since its under worenty. What
is a somewhat accessible player? I'm looking for a fairly high capacity,
like 10 giggs or more. And a good brand, too. Both the players I had (a
rio and this PNY) lasted me 10 months. But if worst comes to worst I'll
take whatever you know of, I'm desperate right now. thanks.

2006-06-16 Thread Brandon Hicks
hi tyler
there are iriver players available still. there was a message, i think it
was on this list, about iriver players for purchase. they are still out
there. I've seen the 300 series on Iriver's site, so they are still making
them. Also, i believe there is a version of rockbox for other iriver
players. check out rockbox.org for a list of supported players and match
that to players available in your area.

Re: nero question

2006-06-16 Thread Brian Hansen
You can get to the filters by hitting CTRL-ENTER on one of the tracks, and
then CTRL-TABBING twice. Though I don't know how to tell when a filter is
selected.

That brings up a question I've been wondering about. How can one make sure
they aren't using any of the filters? I do all of my normalizing and other
processing during the editing faze before I'm ready to burn the CD's, so I
don't want any of the filters to be active.

Blessings,

Brian

Subject: nero question

 Hi all,

I have nero 7. I was reading in the help or such that there are filters
in the properties of the tracks you want to burn (in the listview of added
tracks). How do I select a filter (for that matter, how do I select
multiple filters in a listbox with JFW?). And, also, I looked through the
help file and couldn't find what the filters mean. Can anyone help me?
(how do you adjust the equilizer and how do I know what I'm adjusting?
What does fade in/fade out mean? all of those-- I don't have an idea what
the effects are, simply because I don't know what I'm looking for, if I
have to do it one track at a time, if I even selected a filter...etc
etc...). I'm using a somewhat accessible nero express (copy and paiste
songs into it, but that's the only downside- it could be a lot worse). Any
 help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: recording on my thinkpad skips

2006-06-16 Thread David Tanner
You have a host of issues.

I would say the primary problem is listening from cd, which is the primary
reason for the problem.

Here would be my recommendation, but it isn't necessarily a cheap one.

1. upgrade to Windows XP.
2. Upgrade go Goldwave 5.14 (current version).
3. Upgrade Winamp to version 5.2.
4. Once you have Goldwave 5.14 you can take the audio from the cd and save it
on your hard drive as an mp3 file so that you don't have to deal with the
issues involved reading from the cd while reading.

The biggest problem is that I am guessing the cd drive reads at a fairly slow
rate, and it cannot read fast enough to keep up with the speed at which the
audio is going out. So, yes there is a buffer issue, but it is caused by a
slow cd drive.

Re: Has Anyone Tried Castblaster Yet?

2006-06-16 Thread Darrell Shandrow
Hi Steve,

I haven't found that I miss that icon. I just make sure I know my inserted
material before I start recording a show. I thus play things like that by
ear. All the same, I definitely do not consider myself to be anything close
to a professional broadcaster, so this is probably more important in that
context.

If so, then I need to learn how to use it
 quickly.
