Wireless transmitters for headphones.

2006-08-26 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Folks:

I have experimented with all kinds of wireless headsets for listening to
music, including high end senheissers; however, I have not found a
satisfactory solution.

Now for my question: can one purchase a wireless transmitter and receiver
expressly designed for using a standare headset?

Your help would be greatly appreciated all over the place.

Thanks.

2006-08-26 Thread Dale Campbell
Jim,
How about a headset like a Sony Sportsman along with a FM transmitter.
I don't know of anything that is just a wireless head set that is
tuned to an fm frequency.
That sony sportsman, or a like model, could be tuned to the
frequency o the fm transmitter.

Just a thought,

I wouldn't mind getting hold of that also.

I need to plug a cable into such a system's receiver for my cochlear implant
and hearing aid.

The assistive listening devices you get are not stereo and because the
receivers are so small, they are not really good enough to listen to music.

Re: Sam Encoders

2006-08-26 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. You must play your music through Winamp for it to work.
So make Winamp your default player at least for mp3s if you intend to
broadcast those and you'll be all set.

At 10:54 PM 8/25/2006, you wrote:

installed the plug in, it worked properly, but no further.

Now, I have Real Player play MP3's on my system. Winamp is not my
default for anything. the same encoder is a winamp program. Could
it not be playing through real player because of that.

I had a friend listen in south carolina. He heard the station fine
when I used the shoutcast plug-in, but when I fired up the sam
encoder, all he and I ever get is text with the songs currently
playing being seen, but no sound. Do I need to change something in
winamp or my file types in either real player or winamp for the sam
encoder program to work? I am convinced the program is installed
properly. It has all of the settings, but no sound comes out. It
says real player and talks about the songs like real player does,
but no a sound is heard. Why would shoutcast play and sam encoders not?

Thanks for your help. I am lost. It may be my Sony Viao Duel chip
Pc and the Windows Media edition (home). Could this be a problem?

Take care,

Re: Sam Encoders VS Shoutcast Plug-In

2006-08-26 Thread Chris Skarstad
Well it make sense really. The audio pipeline in the sam encoders
*only* broadcasts music. So even if you use software speech, and it
came through nobody would hear it.
So if you selected your sound card, people would hear anything coming
through that, if you had what you hear, or stereo mix enabled.

Hi.

I use the audio pipeline with the SAM encoder, because I use software
speech, and I believe that it would be broadcast if I used my sound card.

A great idea, that what I do. It works well especially with something like a
Ccrane. To me it's great doing it that way, not to mention you can use other
radios if you wish.

 Jim,
How about a headset like a Sony Sportsman along with a FM transmitter.
I don't know of anything that is just a wireless head set that is
 tuned to an fm frequency.
That sony sportsman, or a like model, could be tuned to the
 frequency o the fm transmitter.

 Just a thought,

Your help would be greatly appreciated all over the place.

Re: MS DOS Prompt

2006-08-26 Thread Isaac
I had tried that but some how the properties were all messed up. I kept trying
to set the working directory in the properties by typing in that directory but
dos just kept telling me that it could not find the file. This was very
frustrating. So I deleted the short cut in my start menu and then created a new
short cut to command.com from the explorer window. I now get a ms dos prompt
window but now under properties there is nothing in the working edit box .but
cmd line has

c
:\Windows in the edit box. But when the dos prompt window comes the directory
shows it as C:\windows\command\EBD this is strange behaviour in my opinion. But
the bottom line is that it works I can just type in a cd command and change
directories. I know that command is the home directory because command dir
shows it as it by repeating it in the window. My conclusion was that I had two
copies of dos and the short cut that I deleted was pointing to the one that
wasn't working properly. Thanks for all the suggestions that everyone sent. I
can use it now the way it is. Isaac

   Hi.

I don't know the exact syntax for Windows ME, but here's something that
  may
help. These instructions work for XP. Maybe ME has something similar.

   Go to the desktop
Open MY COMPUTER and select the C drive.

Now under the file menu there should be a choice for SEARCH. Choose
  that
   and hit ENTER.

There should now be a field where you can enter part of the file name.
  In
that field type COMMAND and hit ENTER.

This should bring up all files with COMMAND in them. Look for something
   like COMMAND.COM.

I think you'll see the path for the file there. Make note of that path.

Now in the run dialogue, type in the complete path and COMMAND. This
  should
   give you a DOS window.

Again, this will work for XP. I would hope that Windows ME has
  something
similar. If others on the list know more about this feel free to add to
  or
   correct what I'm saying.

   Hope this helps.

I've just downloaded and installed the current version of WinAmp.
I am currently running JFW 7.0 which includes scripts for WinAmp.
I see on the JFWLite - programs web page, Jim Grimsby's WinAmp scripts.
With JFW 7.1, has the library support been added or, if I upgrade to JFW

Any suggestions on setting up and starting for the newbie WinAmper?

Reed,

Suggestion 1: FORGET ABOUT THE LIBRARY! Even with the latest scripts, it
isn't accessible, and it simply isn't worth all the effort to try and make
it accessible. For browsing the music on your hard drive, use the ctrl-l and
shift-l commands, and, for finding interesting web streams to play, browse
the shoutcast web site, and bookmark anything that interests you.

Go ahead and install the latest scripts, though. They do make various other
functions more accessible. Just don't think they'll do anything
significantly useful for the library.

Re: WinAmp

2006-08-26 Thread Mac Norins
Dana,

What do you suggest, for those of us trying to create see deeze, with
crossfades in them, that sighted people can advance the tracks in, when
they are playing them on regular CD players? I can only get the Disc Writer
plug in to create one big wav file, now that the 5.24 version of the Media
Library is the norm. I have heard that others have gone back to version
5.09E, to alleviate this problem, but, that creates security issues, doesn't
it (or does it not?)?

Thanks,

Re: Anapod Explorer Question

2006-08-26 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Dana,

I don't know anything about Rock Box at all. When I get a chance, I'm going to
go to the website and read about it. Basically, I have all of my songs in one
folder of the Ipod. I just keep tapping the forward until I find the song I
want to hear. Totally inefficient, but portable. It really is foolish that
none of the manufacturers haven't thought about making their units interactive
or at least speak. It's also surprising. Speech is a big hit with sighted
people on their cell phones.

And I don't want to hear any I Told you so
I've just downloaded and installed the current version of WinAmp.
I am currently running JFW 7.0 which includes scripts for WinAmp.
I see on the JFWLite - programs web page, Jim Grimsby's WinAmp scripts.
With JFW 7.1, has the library support been added or, if I upgrade to JFW
  7.1, do I need Jim's scripts? Do I ever need Jim's scripts?

Any suggestions on setting up and starting for the newbie WinAmper?

  Thanks.

Blessed Be,

Dana

Re: TRIAL VERSION OF AUDIGEN

2006-08-26 Thread Michael Lang
Hi André,

A php file is a script program, which doesn't get downloaded normally.
The site says, that if you're asked for a name and password, you should
turn off the download manager. Could this be the cause of your problem?

Jaws and Pandora.com

2006-08-26 Thread Lynn Schneider
I'm wondering if any of you have been able to successfully register
for and use the music service at http://www.pandora.com. It looks
pretty cool, but I am having difficulty registering an account with
them, although they do have keyboard shortcuts for the tuner. I
would be willing to get sighted help to register if I could be
reasonably certain that I could use the service with Jaws. Any help
with this matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks much, and have a fantastic day.

Re: Jaws and Pandora.com

2006-08-26 Thread Dean Martineau

I wrote to them and they acknowledged that registration is likely
impossible, and I agree. I haven't gotten help getting over that
hurdle, but they seem to believe, and the existing keyboard shortcuts
give cause for cautious optimism, that the system is usable once you register.

Re: Jaws and Pandora.com

2006-08-26 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi,

I've been assisted by the Pandora tech support folks in getting registered
with the site. If you don't ask, they may not offer to help, but if you
inquire, they will ask you to email the important info to them. Once you
have been registered, you should be able to both log in, and choose
different songs/artists to listen to. The keystrokes for their media player
don't seem to work, even with a screen reader turned off, but perhaps I'm
missing another step which would enable the use of these keys.

Good luck,
Scott
