winamp ok

2007-02-17 Thread Joe
False alarm on winamp. Its working ok now. I guess it was the stream.
Now another question. Is the newest winamp as accessible with jaws 7 as version
5.24? When I tried it the dashboard feature confused me.What's that all about?
thanks again. Joe.

Re: Converting A .wav File To an .Mp3 file by using CDex1.51?

2007-02-17 Thread Sarah
Hello. hit f12 to do that and broas for the folder containing the file and
after you do that find the file in the list view and hit enter. you need to
have mp3 selected in the settings thingy. See
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/FunFilled/~5/80651191/CDEX_part_2.mp3
for more info.

I don't use it at all as the latency when you multitrack is not good. you
loose time in the performance.

It's even with GoldWave except for accessible volume levels and, if memory
serves, eq settings. I don't think GW gives access to these.

For older versions of Winamp I can highly recommend the Winamp Heaven

Re: problems with winamp

2007-02-17 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. this is a really long URL, so you may need to copy and paste it
into your browser. but you can get it at:

http://www.filehippo.com/download/file/98ef02c36021bdacf5c689d53b2f53756638e4e59524bb4477185870d90061d1/

I would really recommend the use of Winamp 5.33 though, because of
all the bugfixes in that release, and at least, on my system here,
version 5.33 runs a lot nicer. It's more stable and hasn't crashed
once. I've had absolutely no problems with it to speak of.

But the above url is the direct link to download Winamp 5.24 full.

Actually I don't use it for that purpose so I'm not certain. I'm using it
 to
record audio from my USB turntable to the PC. I'm also doing some simple
editing with it, though I use DC6 or GoldWave for more complex tasks. My
experience only allows me to say that it is a good free editor and is
accessible, at least when it comes to the aspects of the program that I
 use.
I believe you can add keyboard shortcuts to help make the program more
accessible. Maybe someone can advise as to how that is done?

 Hello Larry!

Do you need to change any options to audacity so it works better for
 blind
 users?
I haven't figured out how to use the multi track system. Are there any
 work
arounds or strategies for Audacity for new users?

 Thanks in advance.

Sound Forge is probably the most accessible sound editor, but it's not
multi-track, nore is it close to being the cheapest.

Re: problem with both versions

2007-02-17 Thread Chris Skarstad
hiJoe

See my previous post on the subject, it pretty much explains
everything you need to set with regards to streaming audio. and as i
said, try a few different streams and see if it doesn't happen with
all of them. Yet another factor is that if you're on a dialup
connection and you're listening to a station that is designed for
high speed users, you're going to get all kinds of breakup because
your connection just isn't able to keep up. This issue isn't really
even related to anything blindness specific, anyone can make the
setting changes I outlined.
Still confused? check out

http://www.acbradio.org/winamp.html and that should give you a guide
to Winamp. it was written for earlier versions and needs some updates
with regard to the use of the modern skin and the fact that
screenreader users sshouldn't use it, but other than that, it's a
ggood starting point.

Hi. I guess I didn't make myself clear. I have the problem listening to streams

2007-02-17 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. just in case she might be on the list, I'm the owner of it and
you can subscribe to the list by sending a blank e-mail to:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

put the word subscribe in the subject line. You will then get back a
confirmation message and all you need to do is respond to it, leaving
the original message in tact, and you'll be subscribed. I say leaving
the original message in tact because a few people had their Outlook
Express set up to not include the original message when replying and
we had one hell of a time getting them subscribed.
But that's the info, just in case anyone else wanted to know.

Re: problems with winamp

2007-02-17 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. I think we're confusing concepts here folks.

>If it were buffer overrun, why would it do it on this version and not a
>previous one?

There is a huge difference between a buffer overrun, and a buffering
internet stream. A buffer overrun is when a program gains system
access through code that is written to do that, but that's getting
off topic. A buffering internet stream is when a stream starts and
stops and it skips like crazy. There are ways of fixing this, even
in the 5.33 version that was just released on the Thirteenth of February.
To do this:

1. go to preferences, control plus p.

2. in the tree view, press your home key and go to the top so that
we're all at a central place to start. Now arrow down to the plugins
section, and arrow down to the input section.
3. press your tab key a couple times and you'll get to a list of
plugins, choose the Nullsoft MPEG audio decoder.

4. Tab to the configure button and press the space bar.
5. You are now in a multipage dialogue.
press your right arrow on the tab control and go to the streaming tab.
6. you'll see an edit box when you press the tab key once more, it
says, streaming data buffer edit, and it'll be set at 64. You
shouldn't need to change this, but if a station is giving you lots of
trouble, you can change this to 128.
7. you'll then see 2 different sliders which determine how much
Winamp buffers before the start of a stream.
Back in the days of dialup access, it was recommended that you put
both of these to 100%, but if you have a high speed connection you
shouldn't need to do that. So what I would do is raise both of them
just a little bit and experiment. choose a higher setting and see if
it still buffers streams. and try several out as well, it may just be
that one particular stream acting up, I've seen it happen and it's
even happened to me when i was streaming something. So experiment a
bit. So after you do all that, press the ok button, and then close
the preferences and you should be all set.

Re: DC6, was, Audacity anyone?

2007-02-17 Thread Larry N
I prefer the DC6 restoration offerings for vinyl, such as pop/click and
crackle, as well as some of the noise reduction filters. Also, the program
includes some nice filters for 78s and open reels, both of which I restore
for CD transfer as part of my business. There are also aspects that I like
better about GoldWave, for instance dividing tracks manually. I've never
found software that does it well automatically.

If you're considering DC6 try it first. I'm not sure of the address but you
can google it. The trial version is fully functional with the exception that
work can't be saved. I suggest trying it first because several experienced
folks on this list have questioned the program's accessibility. In my view,
there is a learning curve, perhaps more than with other audio products.
Unlike GoldWave, it's not the most excessible, right out of the box. But
with DC6, as with GoldWave, they specialize in what I need. Just my own
humble oppinion here and nothing more.

It could be a bug. Two broadcasters have told me that they find version 5.24
the most stable...

You can find it at oldversions or someone may have it.

Just because a new version comes out doesn't mean you have to upgrade unless
there are serious security issues or it has a feature you want.

Just my opinion,

I also have problems playing some radio stations in the newer versions of
Winamp; they keep forever buffering while in 5.2x versions they play
alright; also when there are titles available the 5.3x don't show them while
the 5.2x do; so I solved it for now by installing the older 5.2x into a
different folder so I can choose now between the two Winamps; LOL!

If it were buffer overrun, why would it do it on this version and not a
previous one?

| When I try playing streaming audio with winamp it cuts out for about a
second every 13 seconds. I don't think its my connection speed as I have dsl
and get a speed of about three meg. I installed the newest winamp and still
had the problem so I went back to 5.24 since it seems to read better with
Jaws 7. Does anyone else out there have this problem and can you help
please?
| Thanks, Joe.
