 Hi Leslie,

I went to the Microsoft web site and used the main downloads page. I
believe the web address is www.microsoft.com/downloads. You can browse
through categories or type in a search for the program you want to
download. You could also install media player from your windows xp CD,
but that version is most likely older than the one on the Microsoft web
 site.

Since all of those programs you mentioned, Media Player Run time and
Windows Media Player Connect appear to be part of Windows media player,
if I'm not mistaken, when you remove everything and reinstall media
player 11, you should get all of those back. You also might want to
check the system requirements as listed in the mlb.com support page.
There are a few knowledge base articles and frequently asked questions
that deal with audio problems and no audio, that's where I found the
suggestion to uninstall windows media player in the first place. I took
this action after trying a bunch of other things, and uninstalling is
what fixed it for me. I of course can't promise that this will work for
everyone else, but I was thoroughly annoyed with game day audio at the
time and after trying everything else, that is what worked for me.

 leslie ferrell wrote:
No need to apologize, Beth! I guess since I covered the 10 version with
 11
means I need to go back and remove it in programs and program files too?
Also, where did you acquire the latest version if in fact that's the one
 you
installed? I'm willing to try anything as long as it works! Thanks for
 your time.

 Aloha,

 Leslie

 Hi Leslie,

If you're talking about trying to fix Game day audio, I uninstalled all
of windows media player entirely. If you take this route, you might
want to back up any libraries you might be using if you don't want to
have to set them up manually again. Since I generally use Real Player,
I didn't have to worry about this. I believe the game day audio player
is an embedded version of Windows Media player and that it may also use
flash player as well somehow. If your question wasn't about game day
 audio, then I apologize.smile

Re: cd to wave

2007-04-08 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I put the following string in
the file name format field of the File names tab in settings, and I
think I got what you were looking for:

%1\%2\Track%7

This creates a directory for the artist (%1) a directory for the CD (%2)
and then a file for each track, named Track01.wav, Track02.wav and
so on. If this isn't what you're looking for, let me know, and I'll see
what else I can think of. I hope these instructions were clear, but if
not, just let me know.

What file names are you trying to get CDEX to create? I don't claim to
be an expert, but I've recently played around with this a bit myself.
If you tell me what you're trying to do, someone may have an idea.

BTW, I use CDEX to rip my CD's, but I'm pretty sure Windows Media
Player, Winamp and Real Player all have this feature as well. It's my
understanding that for Winamp to rip CD's at anything but the slowest
speed, you'll need to upgrade to Winamp Pro, which isn't free. The
feature to rip CD's with Real Player may also be a paid upgrade, but
it's free on my PC, although that may be because it came bundled with
something on this PC. I'm sure others will have suggestions as well.

2007-04-08 Thread Adrien Collins
Hi

Can any of you assist me?
I have just worked out how to create playlists for my music
albums using windows media player 11. I have several albums
with more than one cd but mp11 insists on putting album 4 or
8 or another volume above volume one on a playlist. If I
created a separate playlist for each and every cd it would
be too complicated. Mp11 also mixes up the tracks on a play
list i.e. tracks 1 3 5 and so on and the others are listed
at the bottom. I have also noticed mp11 plays the tracks
starting with album 4 whether I want it to or not.

How can I correct all these problems or prevent them
happening in the future?

Does anyone know of a better and more efficient way of
creating playlists?

Well it seems I've inherritted a muvo and while it's capacity is limited,
I really like it's ease of use.
Eventually I would like to buy something with greater capactiy, but since
all I desire in an Mp3 player is a divice for listening to music, I
suspect something will happen along, as long as it doesn't require a file
manager for transferring files. My friend has one from Sony and the
program used, something called sonic stage is rather messy with Jaws.

Well, the sighted help I was referring to was pretty minimal. I needed
it mostly to get familiar with the player and then when I'd gotten
myself in trouble loading some new firmware on it. Others may disagree,
but IMHO, if you're gonna play with the Rockbox firmware then you need
to be willing to spend some time reading up on what to do, be prepared
to experiment with it a bit and be patient and persistent! Knowing a
little bit about electronics, at least the terms used, would also help.
I don't want to scare anyone off, but you can't go into it thinking
it'll work right out of the box, or you'll probably be pretty
disappointed and frustrated. If you do get it all working, it is pretty
 sweet!

 Dan Murphy wrote:

Our
access to sighted help is somewhat tenuous since the person who could
help
us is a partial who gets headaches when looking at the screen too
long.
As I said before, I would be happy with a machine that I could simply
hook
up to the Usb port on the PC and just drag files into it and as long
as I
know where the basic navigation keys on the player are that would be
fine.

I'm not familiar with the Sony series you mentioned, but what kind of
MP3 player are you looking for? Are you looking for a compact flash
based MP3 player that has maybe 1GB or 2GM of storage, or are you
looking for a hard drive based player that has 20GB, 40GB or more of
  storage?

With the compact flash based player you have several choices. The
one
that I'm familiar with is the Nomad MuVo from Creative.
Unfortunately,
Creative doesn't distribute it anymore, but you might find one on the
web somewhere. It doesn't have a display and just a few buttons to
adjust the volumen and volume and skip from song to song. There are
a
few other similar options on the market, like the iPod Shuffle. The
nice thing about the MuVo that I have is that it doesn't come with
any
software, it's just a UMS device on your computer and you can use
Windows Explorer to move MP3's over to it. It also plays WMA and DRM
files, so you can use it with Audible and Overdrive.

In the area of a harddrive based MP3 player, I recently just got
myself
an iRiver H10 20GB MP3 player and I loaded the Rockbox firmware on
it.
You may need some patience and sighted help to get this working, but
if
you do, you end up with a device that has spoken menus and even
spoken
song titles, although it doesn't have TTS built into it. You can
still
get the iRiver H10 on line, in a 5GB, 6GB and 20GB version. I got
mine
  recently from woot.com for $99.

Sorry I don't have information on any newer players, but I'm just
sharing my personal experience and remember, these are just my
opinions. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

nice to look at but the file management software that comes with it

As I am very new to all this I haven't paid much attention to all

Skype 3.2 Sets New Standard for Sound Quality

Posted by Jim Courtney on March 28, 2007 09:39 AM

When Skype Vice President Stefan Oberg spoke at VON Canada last year his
theme was how Skype's goal was to be Better Than a Phone. To make his
point he mentioned how even the simple task of plugging in a headset
 (often
on the rear of a desktop PC or in a laptop docking station) still
 frustrated
Skype product managers and engineers as an ease of use issue.
Otherwise background noise and echo effects made conversation difficult at
best, if not impossible, when using the basic speakers and microphone
 supplied with a PC.

Today, with the release of Skype 3.2 beta, you no longer need to have that
headset (or handset) to achieve top-notch voice quality in your Skype
 voice
conversations. You can make excellent quality Skype calls using your
 basic
PC speakers and microphone. While not mentioned in the Skype Beta blog
post, if you look at the Release Notes for Skype 3.2 beta 53, you will
 find:

 feature: Skype's own audio codec
 feature: Skype improved conference mixer
feature: Skype Jitter Buffer and concealment
 feature: Skype audio preprocessing components

What this all adds up to is a new standard for voice quality in VoIP
 calls.
Skype has internally developed its own codecs, based, I suspect, on the
Camino Networks technology Skype acquired last April, such that calls
to/from a Skype 3.2 client can be made simply using the microphone and
speakers that come with any laptop or desktop PC.
Echo cancellation and noise cancellation capabilities in these codecs make
your Skype calls sound like a call with headsets or phone handset but
without the hardware. As a result you can have handsfree operation of
 your
Skype calling while not cluttering up your physical desktop with
 additional
hardware. The sole reason for using traditional USB handsets will be
privacy; speaker phones may still have some application in board room
environments. PC Free phones will continue to have their role in getting
Skype available throughout the home or small office.

I first heard about this new capability from a beta tester a couple of
 weeks
ago. He had to make a call from a booth conference room on the floor at
CeBit 2007. While surrounded by four walls, with no ceiling, sound from
 the
conference came in over the top. Yet, using the Skype 3.2 client he
successfully made a business critical call using Skype back to parties in
North America simply using the mic and speakers inherent to his laptop.
This morning I tested out the Skype
3.2 client using simply my laptop (actually my Altec Lansing USB speakers
 to
enhance sound power that could create echoes) and the microphone from my
headset. (Need to call Dell for a service call on my laptop's built-in
microphone.) I placed the mic about midway between the speakers and made
five different calls -- four using Skype at the other end while the fifth
was on a mobile phone via SkypeOut. All four Skype parties found the call
quality superb while the call to the mobile phone had poorer but quite
 acceptable quality
-- probably due to the terminating mobile phone infrastructure. One of the
 called Skype parties found it

  Hi Dana!

  1. When recording JAWS doesn't interfere in it.
  2. As far as I know there is no shortcut to start and stop recording;
anyway, there is a rec button when you alt-tab once when you're in the
main up-down slider so just press space on it if you want to record and
again to stop recording; or simply go to the recording menu and begin or
  stop recording from there.
  3. There seems to be no other formats than MP3 or OGG if the stream is in
  OGG format.
  4. You can set another directory for recordings by going to preferences
under the settings menu and then to the recording card; then tab twice and
you will find a button which JAWS won't specify but just press space on it
and you'll get to the dialog box to find a new directory.
  5. The up-down slider info is the volume; 100% is the highest so just move
the up and down arrows to get a lower volume if you wish; BTW, if you
lower
the volume it doesn't have any influence on JAWS.
  6. The presets are updated automatically and you'd better not add to them
or
then your additions would be deleted by the new automatic update anyway,
but
you can add new stations by yourself to favorites instead.

  Hope this helps.
  Martina

Skype. Should I upgrade?

2007-04-08 Thread Joe
Hi, Joe here. I'm using skype 2.5.0.151. I realize when your using a screen
reader like Jaws as I am using Jaws 7, newer is not always better when it comes
to upgrading other programs. Skype is working well and I have no problems with
it. I also use scripts for skype. If I do upgrade do I have to get rid of these
scripts and install the newer ones? do I have to completely uninstall skype or
can I install overtop of what I have. Last question. What's the newest version
I can use with Jaws and what benefits would I get compared to what I have now.
That's a lot of questions, but I want to cover everything. I'm not one of those
who has to have the newewst software just because its out especially if what I

Anders,

I think there's nothing wrong with the interface, as is. I'd just like to see a
scheduler, and the ability to save recordings as .wav files. Then, it would be
an ideal little program, for what it does.

Burning CDs With Windows Media Player

2007-04-08 Thread Tom
I'm posting this message for a list member who is having
trouble posting to pc audio.

Tom

Hi folks,

Recently a friend of mine updated their windows media player
from 10 to 11 and have been having a strange problem with
burning CD's ever since. Here's what happens.

After putting their compilation together and starting the
burn process, two thirds of the way through the procedure an
error dialog comes up that says that windows media player is
unable to burn the CD and to use a slower writing speed or to
purchase a different brand of disk. The writing speed is set
at 16X which should more than suffice or an accurate burn
these days. And no matter what brand of CD they try this
error happens. Personally, I've had this error myself when I
first tested media player 11 and have since reset mine back
to 10 and the error never happened again. Anyone else
have this trouble and is there a permanent fix that you can
recommend for it?

Tony\

Re: Skype. Should I upgrade?

2007-04-08 Thread Timothy Wynn
Hi,

Q. If I do upgrade do I have to get rid of these scripts and install the
newer ones?
A. No, you can just install the newer scripts on top of your old ones.

Q. do I have to completely uninstall skip or can I install overtop of what I
have.
A. You can just install the newer version of skip on top of the old version.

Q. What's the newest version I can use with Jaws and what benefits would I
get compared to what I have now.
A. The newest version of skip that you can use is either 3.1 or 3.2 beta.
I'm not sure what the benefits are but, one is a better sound quality.

Hope that helps!

Re: USB headset

2007-04-08 Thread Dana S. Leslie
When you plug in your USB headset, it makes itself the default output device.
With the headset plugged in, go to control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices, the
Audio Device tab, and manually reset your default audio output device to the
sound card driving your speakers.

If you are using JAWS, you will need to edit jfw.ini, to ensure that, each time
you reboot, JAWS will speak through your speakers, and not through your
headset. If you need to know how to do this, let us know.

Re: Portable CD player with anti-shock that is accessible?

2007-04-08 Thread Michael Lang
I'd probably get an MP3 CD player from Sony. They offer fast forwad and
rewind with sound and exact resume. One current modell is called
D-NE240, but it doesn't seem to be available in the U.S. An older modell
like the D-NE320 or D-NE330 might still be available newly or via Ebay.
The ones with built-in radio like the D-NF430 are also quite good I
think.

Without a lot of explanation, I will just say, that I occasionally still
need a Walkman style CD player that is accessible.

With that being the case, go ahead, let me have your favorite portable
CD player with anti-chock technology list! I know that you guys love the
very best, need it to be accessible, and still love a bargain, which is
exactly why I am asking you!

 Thanks so very much!

Re: WavPack 4.40 Codec Update Available for Easy CD DA Extractor

2007-04-08 Thread Sunshine
Ok in order to have them read your appearance settings must be on
Windows and Buttons should be on WIndows Classic View
Color Scheme should be on Windows Standard

If you use something different here the highlight color changes and that is
why the list does not read.

If you need help finding these settings please let me know and I will let
you know how to get to them.

Thank you. Now I know not to install it until Jukka fixes the
accessibility problems with version 10, and it becomes worth upgrading.

Re: Burning CDs With Windows Media Player

2007-04-08 Thread John Price
Hello Tom,
I've used Windows Media Player 11 to burn cds.
I didn't have that kind of problen, but I did run in to this kind of a
problem.
I ripped a cd that I wanted to make myself a coppy of.
I found that you had to play them all to get them all on to the cd.
Because if you didn't, WMP11 would only burn one of those songs on to the
cd, and lieve the other 12 or 13 or so out.
That is why I myself switch back to Windows Media Player 10.
So everybidy out their, watch out for that, because that can be a reall
pane.

Subject: Burning CDs With Windows Media Player

 Tony\

Re: winamp and JFW 8

2007-04-08 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. If you're using Winamp 3, there's your problem! Winamp 3 is
*completely* inaccessible with all screenreaders. I would suggest
either going back to Winamp 2.95 which was the last stable version in
the 2.x series, or go to Winamp 5.32 which is the latest stable
version. There is a beta out there, and it does provide better media
library support with JAWS, but again it is a beta. Again, forget
about Winamp 3, it ismost definitely not recommended. Not even
sighted people liked Winamp 3 and Nullsoft discontinued it.

At 05:19 PM 4/8/2007, you wrote:
I am having all sorts of prblems with Winamp now I have upgraded to
JFW 8. I can't use the Playlist. Jaws won't focus/read the current
track. I can't get anywhere in the Library. Ihad Winamp 3.3? but
uninstalled and went back to 3.24 to see if that made a difference.

Any clues.

Re: USB headset

2007-04-08 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi, Dana! Actually, I'd love to know how to change the JFW.ini file when
you're using a USB head-set. I think that would be helpful to me in some
situations. Thanks!

When you plug in your USB headset, it makes itself the default output
device. With the headset plugged in, go to control Panel, Sound and Audio
Devices, the Audio Device tab, and manually reset your default audio
output device to the sound card driving your speakers.

If you are using JAWS, you will need to edit jfw.ini, to ensure that, each
time you reboot, JAWS will speak through your speakers, and not through
your headset. If you need to know how to do this, let us know.

 Blessed Be,

When I use my USB headset/mic, my speakers will not work. When I use my

 setting for this?
