I'm afraid your a little confused, as shoutcast itself is nothing more then
a protocol, the shoutcast server can serve any medium that one can write an
application for. As such no unique server is needed to stream to a cell
phone, simply lowering the bitrate or running a separate server with a
lowered bitrate will allow users on the go to enjoy your content.

Re: Refreshable Braille clock for broadcasters

2007-06-21 Thread Chuck Adkins
Yes, I agree. I use my Braille Sense, but for years since my Sciences For
The Blind clocks--two exactly--have worn out I am fair at counting down time
in my head, but as I get older can't do that as reliablely as I could. Those
SFB clocks were the best though because they seemed to stay accurate longer.
You'd be surprised at the grief I got for calling the WWV phone number to
reset stuff (303-4997111)

For years I've thought it would be nice to have a simple
little clock with a braille display. I wore out two of the
mechanical ones produced by Science for the Blind products.
Very valuable for a blind broadcaster for getting into a
 network, back timing songs etc.

Hope braille displays become inexpensive enough some day to
make them practical to be used in a clock.

The Braille N Speak will not work in a broadcast environment and will not
give you a second by second countdown as the hour progresses. What is needed
is a realtime touch accessible clock with second hand feedback. Just getting
a timer is a simple problem to fix. Just to clarify what is needed I think.

The BrailleNote 18 cell is less than $10,000. Another option is an old

It's not really a an expensive problem to solve.

In order for the line in jack to send an audio signal to your speakers, you

You can download the plug-in from

Ever thought about getting an Imic

2007-06-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!
Some time ago on this list, we discussed the marvelous Imic USB
devices, a nice little external sound device which works and performs
well and I reckon after what I've just seen there's absolutely no
excuse for anyone at all who's planning on buying 1 or 2 of these
little beauties to hold off any longer.
Go onto Ebay and search for Imic under computers and you'll see
brand new Imic's being sold for $39.00 plus about $10.00 insured
postage, if that ain't a bargain then I'd like to know what is.

Ok, have a look at the Iriver H10, I know people use these with Rockbox.
I used an Iriver 340 at one time but got rid of this, prefering to
use my Nokia mobile phone with talks now.

Yes, I agree. I use my Braille Sense, but for years since my Sciences For
The Blind clocks--two exactly--have worn out I am fair at counting down
 time
in my head, but as I get older can't do that as reliablely as I could.
 Those
SFB clocks were the best though because they seemed to stay accurate
 longer.

I'm looking for a way to monitor the current time by second.
This was a very handy feature of the Braille Lite, but I
can't find any other way of doing it.

Pac Mate does have a stopwatch feature but this is
cumbersome when you're wanting a live cue, counting up to mid
night etc.

Re: Shoutcast or Windows Media servers for cell phones

2007-06-21 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. I don't think such a thing actually exists. In fact, it doesn't
have to because there are some phones out there, the names escape me
for the moment, but they can receive mp3 streams from a shoutcast
server. so just run your stream as is.
I'm sure others will be able to be more helpful as far as models of
phones go but that's my understanding.

Hey Brian!
Are you using rockbox?
If you are, then you just put your music in a new folder you create with
Windows explorer.
Of course, you then have to boot to rockbox.
If you boot to the I Pod firmware, then you won't see this folder and would
have to use I Tune to read your music files.

it really depends at what you rip them at. if you do 4800 you could probably

Easy CDDA Extractor Scripts: What do I do with them

2007-06-21 Thread JardataMailServicesBox
Hello List!

You know, back when JAWS was installed onto the root director and had the JFW
folder right there, one could find the settings folder and add scripts to it.
Now I don't see where JAWS is stored, so how do I get the scripts where they
are suppose to be? The script writer should put a direct extraction link to
the right place in JAWS were they should be (an executable I think it is
called). Could someone give me the place where it should go. I'm lost
otherwise.

Re: Easy CDDA Extractor Scripts: What do I do with them

2007-06-21 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. this isn't really pc-audio related but this is still a very good idea.
What you need to do is to go to:

http://randylaptop.com/projects/JUnpack/

on that page, you will find a little utility that makes installing
JAWS scripts as painless as possible. after it's installed, simply
right click or use your context menu key and
If you press enter on the send to sub menu, you can then press enter
on the JAWS settings directory menu item and the program will come up.
For ease of use, I would recommend that you download the first
version of the program, which contains the full installer, start menu
shortcuts and documentation. that way you'll know how to actually use
the thing. but it works like a charm.
don't worry, each link is very clearly labeled, so you should have no
problem telling which one is what.

Go onto Ebay and search for Imic under computers and you'll see
brand new Imic's being sold for $39.00 plus about $10.00 insured
postage, if that ain't a bargain then I'd like to know what is.

yes, the latest build now supports the 80GB Ipod video.
I have the 30GB model, and only purchased it a month before rockbox

 Hi,

Is anyone in Australia using Rockbox? I seem to be having difficulty
finding MP3 players in Australia that can run it. I'm concerned,
 probably
needlessly, about purchasing an MP3 player overseas, in case I can't get
chargers, etc, that will work in Australia.

2007-06-21 Thread John Price
Hello Dan,
You mite try ajusting your mane valume, if it's less then 85%, all of the
levels will sound like they're to low.
Turne the mane volume and all of the line/mic ins on both cards up to 85%,
and they will be fine.
Also, you mite try turning the volume on your speakers up a little too.
My best regards to you all.

Hi all, well, I've got a mixer hooked up to my pc, and I find that
the levels from anything coming through it, be it my mic, midi
keyboard, or my other soundcard which i also have hooked in, are very
low, if not even audible at all. I've checked my volume control to
see if things are alright in there, and they are. I'm stumpped as to
 why things are so low.

 Hey Brian!
 Are you using rockbox?
If you are, then you just put your music in a new folder you create with
 Windows explorer.
Of course, you then have to boot to rockbox.
If you boot to the I Pod firmware, then you won't see this folder and
would have to use I Tune to read your music files.

My Ipod can't see the mp3 files I transfer from my computer to the Ipod.
I guess it need the files in a specific location?

Re: Using Rockbox in Australia

2007-06-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
Ok, well I cannot answer your question regarding Rockbox, what I was
getting at was that accessaries were now available for Ipods which
allowed the connection of audio and video devices so that the Ipod
could record directly from those, these accessaries allowed full
control of recording whether that be from the Ipod itself or a
computer, they've been reviewed in our local newspaper over the last
couple of weeks.

The other advantages of these models are that they can (with a few
accessaries) be made to record audio and video from line-out sources.

Re: Where do you put files on an Ipod?

2007-06-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
I could be wrong but from the experience I've had with shuffles, you
have to transfer your music over to them with Itunes or another
player which can manage Ipods, when you just transfer MP3 files over
to an Ipod as say an external drive, the Ipod recognises the files
as data and not music.

Sarah, I had read the switches for the line in and speaker jack on the IMic are
mislabeled. this is why you may not be getting any audio output. it has to do
with
a toggle switch for the line and mic or some kind of input. Also I read where
you
may not get any output on a windows 98-se machine. sounds like an interesting

Re: skipe

2007-06-21 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. ok, your questions are all very easily answered. firstly, to
call your contact, press enter on their name in the contact
list. you will hear a phone ring type of sound and when they answer,
talk as normal. when you are done with the call, press escape.
and calls from computer to computer are absolutely free. it's when
you call regular phones when charges start to happen.
  I hope this helps.

yes that is certainly true for the shuffle.
Although you can copy and paste music to the shuffle, you will need to use

My Ipod can't see the mp3 files I transfer from my computer to the Ipod.
I guess it need the files in a specific location?

hi Brian,
Which Ipod do you have?

without rockbox your player simply wont speak.
yes, it will play mp3 files, but those files cand simply be copied and
pasted on to your player.

Hi mark,
Oh I even don't have a rock box.
will the Ipod play ordenary mp3 files?
should I put them under Itunes?

If I copy files to the unit on a Vista computer there is no problem finding
and playing the files?

Best regards
Brian

hi, have you setup rockbox to speak files and folders?
as for the placing of the files, you just copy and paste the files, and
create folder as you do on you desktop pc.

That's absolutely excellent, I'll pass that along.

Ok, well if that's the case then I'm a little wrong then because I
didn't think the latest Ipod Videos would work with Rockbox, theyr'e
the 80 gig machines you speak of are they not?

really! don't you guys have Ipod there?
30GB, and now 80GB models, both work with rockbox.

Hi,

Is anyone in Australia using Rockbox? I seem to be having difficulty
finding MP3 players in Australia that can run it. I'm concerned,
probably
needlessly, about purchasing an MP3 player overseas, in case I can't get
chargers, etc, that will work in Australia.

Regards
Amanda

You could probably put at least five movies on a CD, depending on the bit
rate.
