Re: sites for downloading music
Well, just thought I would inform you that the Russian government shut them down about a week and a half ago, after the World Trade Commission hinted to Russia that they might be let in if they shut down allofmp3. I think you may be able to use All Tunes only to spend your remaining balance if you have any, but you can't add more or anything. I hate to see them go. It's just the RIAA killing another form of competition. They were much happier when we all marched down to our favorite stored and plunked down $20 for a CD with twelve songs 2 of which we liked, on a CD that is cheaper to produce than earlier vinyl lp's. Frustrated with Rhapsody
Hi All, I have established my user id and password with Rhapsody, but now I want to select the service I would like and am having a great deal of trouble with that. Also, I find searching for artists or songs very difficult whether I use the jaws or pc cursor. I would take a subscription, but I probably only need around a dozen downloads a year so I would rather pay as I go. Is that possible with Rhapsody? Can anyone give me any tips for making this service more accessable? Thanks much. Hi, Trace and everyone! I surely do miss good ol' allofmp3 and spent many happy minutes downloaind their stuff. But it seems that you have to go through a couple of layers of hoops to buy these pre-paid cards. Sounds like money laundering to me! hahahaha! napster
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I signed up for a free trial of napster and when I tried installing it it said that one of the files in the c:\program files\napster directory didn't match the setup's .cab files. It said the medium from which I was running the setup may be corrupt. I haven't had any other problems with my machine, other than trying to install a game from a company, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried to run it from the web site instead of saving the file and installing and got the same error. I use oll of mp3, its not altogether technically legal and there's a visual verification when you register, also, you have to buy pre payment cards to put credit in to your account as the credit card companies decided not to allow transactions to them, not their place to sensor us in my opinion but that's how it is. trace - Original Message - From: "Terra Syslo" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list." I've heard that amazon will be launching a download store this year to rival i-tunes. Music will be free of any copy protection so will be able to play on any mp3 player and they hope to have over 12,000 record labels signed up within a short time. Can't tell you anything about formats yet. Given amazon's record on good accessibility, it will likely be very easy to use so sounds promising. Regards. help needed with Real Alternative/Media Player Classic
Hello list, I recently downloaded and installed Real Alternative from www.whitestick.co.uk in order to access the on-demand archives of PBS 106.7 FM (www.pbsfm.org.au). The live stream is in Windows Media, but these archived shows are streamed in Real format, and I didn't want to install RealPlayer and had read that Real Alternative could also handle that format. During the installation one of the components, which was checked by default (and which I left checked), was Media Player Classic, and when I look for the program on the desktop or within Programs submenu of Start menu, it's listed as Media Player Classic, not Real Alternative. The version is 6.4.9.0 (according to the About dialog under the Help menu). During the installation, there were components/options offered, which I left in their default state, for the most part, as I simply wasn't sure of the ramifications - eg. configure for Real Media. (I left this unchecked because Winamp is my default player and I was concerned about potential interference with Winamp.) Another option said something like "allow for direct splitting" or it might have been "allow for directshow splitting" (sorry this is vague, but I can't recall the exact wording). Not knowing what else to do, I left it checked, but given the problem I'm experiencing now, I'm wondering if that should have been unchecked and the other one (to do with configuring for Real Media) should be checked etc. After completing the installation, I later tried one of the archived episodes of "Sunglasses After Dark", one of my favourite shows on PBS FM, only to find that played the first half of the show and stopped. (It runs for 2 hours.) Interestingly, when I tried the same episode the next day, I got the second half, but I wanted to just play the whole episode from beginning to end. Under the Help menu, both "Home Page" and "Documentation (sf.net)" are offered, but in both cases, I had a frustrating time trying to find relevant info when pressing Enter and going into the respective sites. When I try the context-sensitive help in Jaws (Jawskey with F1), I get: JAWS may not recognize this control. To show JAWS what type of control it is, press JAWSKey+7. To see more technical information on the control, press Control+JAWSKey+F1. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
