Hi, Please don't take this off list! I am very interested in seeing how it
is resolved. I also want to transfer material over to CD and or DVD. Any
solutions you have figured out, will put me loads ahead of where I am now.

Thanks so much!

It's somewhat accessible. I have it here. It has lots of hot keys but as
far as composing yourself with it I'm not sure you can do that part of the
work yourself. It's somewhat mouse intensive but it is fun to play with.

Re: gotta utorrent question

2007-07-30 Thread Richard Claypool
a lot of times, if you lower the max upload rate that will fix the problem.

If you're using all of your upload speed, your download speed will be
effected.

so a good idea is to set your upload speed to about 90 percent of what it
can do.

that's what I do with my ftp server, soulseek etc.

audio editor shopping, Total Recorder vs. Goldwave?

2007-07-30 Thread Dave
Hello,
I'm in the market for an audio editing solution for several different
issues. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, i have looked for an
open-source solution on my Unix servers as i thought this would be easiest
and didn't get satisfactory results. So now i'm looking paid windows
products, and i'm also not in to high-end production, i don't need a lot of
fantasy effects, i just need the end-result to sound good.
The first issue is i have some audio on casette tape that i want to move
over to my computer and master a CD out of. Ideally i'd like to make a disk
that will play in a standard CD player, but possibly would have a separate
mp3 track as well. This tape also has let's just say audio that is rather
old with a lot of pops and the like, i'd like to clean that up. From my
research it
looks like total recorder or Goldwave will do this one. Secondly i need to
edit an
extremely large .avi file, like a file about 4+gb in size, and i want to
chop out i'd say 90 to 95%+ of it, and resave the file. The .avi file has
both audio and video one edit will be audio only the other will have the
audio and video but only of the selected section. Research leaned me toward
Goldwave for this task.
Third item, i've got some media files, .wmv, standard windows media
files, and others that i'd
like to convert in to dvd-compliant formats suitable for playing on a
standard player. That led me to goldwave. I was wondering i'm using jfw
currently and have a demo of window eyes how these programs worked, if there
were others i should consider, and user experiences. Both of these programs
look good, both are reasonably priced, user feedback will tell me which way
to go.
Item1 in the above is
time sensitive, i'd appreciate any responses.
Thanks.
Dave.

2007-07-30 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
High Lynn,
Yes you can hook a pare of speakers up to your box.
But you will need some kind of an amplifier to drive the speakers.
That is, if the cable box has analog RCA line out jacks.
My best regards to you all!

RE: Apple's new Synth: Is there a demo of it on the net?

2007-07-30 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
You may need to reassociate some mime file types with Quick Time to get
the voice to play.

Re: billsparks.org?

2007-07-30 Thread Mike Pietruk
Gary

Let me attempt to explain why your attempt to play wzzr in WMP had to
fail.
WZZR (and many other Clear Channel family stations) use what is known as
the CC Tuner.
The CC tuner is what is known as an embedded player meaning it is a small
plugin that seamlessly works with another player, in this case, Windows
Media Player.
While it may not be readily apparent, this set up potentially has benefits
for both sides of the equation including being able to deliver to you talk
show names and guests, song titles, news headlines, whatever.
However, for the stream to work, the path must go through that tuner
plugin which, by attempting to load the stream url into WMP, apparently
bypasses.
On the other hand, launching the stream from the run dialog or your IE
Favorites, apparently, in the CC Tuner case, works fine.

What I would urge anyone who encounters one of these broken links to do is
use the databases' feedback mechanism to report the error.
I've, as an example, reported a bunch of these over the last week to the
support crew at
radiotime.com, and they're repairing them quickly as folks point these out
to them.
On the Streamingradioguide.com listings, you will see the most recent date
on which the stream was validated.
Streamingradioguide.com appears to have a program in place which checks
streams to see if they're still operative.
MikesRadioWorld also seems to be on top of the situation.
That's why, at the moment, these are my 3 top choices for streams.

And as has been said before, anyone who attempts to maintain links for
their own use well knows, links do often change and uncovering broken
links is part of the expectation.
One bit of irony in this, I began working with streaming radio in 2000 or
so.  The first link was Wgn Chicago which still works;
the 2nd one was WMBI-FM Chicago which worked until early this year when
the Moody owned stations switched to BarnabasRoad.com for their audio
feeds.

Re: Listening to TV on my computer

2007-07-30 Thread Lynn Schneider
Hi Mike. Since I'm getting digital cable and will have a box, I was
hoping to be able to hook the box up to my PC and listen through it
instead of buying a TV. No, I don't want stuff in other languages
because I only speak English and a smattering of French. Is there a
way I can just hook a pair of speakers up to the audio jacks on the
cable box or maybe get a boombox-type thing and just hook it up to
the box? I'm not interested in recording anything, just getting TV
without buying a TV.
