Re: most popular sound editing program?

I like Audacity, mostly because it's free. It is a multi track editor as
well.
I use it mostly for recording using backing tracks, and the software is
great for this,

It also depends on how comfortable you are with different ways of doing
things. Sound Forge and Gold Wave, for example, employ vastly different
editing techniques. Some people find Gold Wave's method to be easier and
can't get their minds around Sound Forge's method, and some find Sound
forge's method to be easier to deal with than Gold Wave. Ability doesn't
enter into it here, it's strictly a preference thing, though advocates on
both sides will often disagree with this last statement.

Hi

1. Have you tried restarting the computer?
2. Have you tried playing just a regular audio cd that you know contains
content?
3. Maybe get an entirely new dvd rom drive. I have a computer here that's 7
or 8 years old and is running fine- so, if the main components stil work,
why change?

 Hi,
Ok my computer is about 6 years old. I got it in 2002. it's a dell. When I
put dvds in to play, sometimes they play and sometimes they don't. And I
don't know why. I have a lidian dvd rom drive. I just put a dvd in to play
it and the drive spins for a little like it's trying to recognise the
 drive
or the disc in the drive then just stops. I also tried holding down shift
while I closed the drive tray and still nothing. But the dvd played a few
days ago. I think it's time for a new computer soon, unless someone

Great to hear; you can get them anywhere. Just make sure they have the 3.5
mm plugs on them. I got mine at best buy. I guess they both have there
advantages; and, since my ambitions were the same as yours, I chose the ones
that plug into the soundcard. A note to people on laptops. If your using
your microphone, but not using the headphones, and using the laptops
internal speakers, anything coming out of them will sound horrible, if your
talking to another person, or recording something with gold wave, anything
you hear from the microphone, coming from those speakers will sound like
something you would hear on an AM radio.

Re: sound card headset microphone

2008-04-26 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
Hello constantine (on laptop),
This is why I ordered another DIY kit from S5 Electronics.
I will be getting a lab top real soon.
I will be using it in a church setting.
But what I will be using it for, is to record the morning and evening
services.
A small but good tube amplifier and a small but good sounding pare of
speakers will serve me just fine here.
Now this little tube amp isn't battery powered, but my pastor doesn't have
any problems with me plugging my equipment in to make the recordings.
For anyone that maybe wondering, I will be using a USB sound card from SOUND
BLASTER.
And I will be using DC7 as my audio editor.
This way, I can hook the lab top in to the mixing board and record the
services that way.
This way, you will get a very high quality recording.
My best regards.
  John.

Re: WPM to MP3 without the burn

2008-04-26 Thread Steve Matzura
Thanks for all the recommendations. I installed Sound Taxi and had
the following experiences.

First, was disappointed you only get 30 seconds worth of conversion
until you buy it. The least they could do is give you a week to play
with it at full length conversion.

Second, the first machine I installed it on, it drove that machine
crazy. Windows boot-up was dragged to a crawl, my CPU fans went into
hyper-spin because of some kind of CPU drain I cannot explain, and the
whole system just ran super-sluggishly until I removed Sound Taxi, at
which point everything returned to normal operation. Fans slowed
down, startup was its normal quick self, sluggishness was removed.
Funny thing, too: When it was un-installed, I had to reboot the
system, but not when it was initially installed.

On the second machine I tried it on, none of the above happened. It
just slipped right in, you wouldn't even know it was there.

Strange, eh?

If the recording is checked to convert to MP3, because it originally transmits

Also it ends up in a format like this.
my show.mp3.mp3, or my show.asc.mp3

Re: most popular sound editing program?

2008-04-26 Thread Bruce Toews
It is highly accessible and a terrific program. For many tasks, you
couldn't find a better program, in my view. But again, it's priced out of
the budgets of many. But thanks for reminding us about that one.

I would agree. There are a number of editors that do a fine job, but if
they don't have the features you need it doesn't make much difference
 which is the most popular.

I know that Rick Harmond would agree that Goldwave is an excellent
editor, and for a majority of folks it will probably meet or exceed their
needs. But, there are features that one might need that Goldwave does
not have or doesn't give as many choices as Sound Forge. But, that
doesn't mean that one pays the much higher price for Sound Forge if they
don't need the additional features of Sound Forge and they can do what
they need to do with Goldwave. Plus Goldwave is probably much less
likely to crash during an editing session than Sound Forge.

Re: most popular sound editing program?

2008-04-26 Thread Doc
I liked what I saw with studio recorder. My only problem was that I saw no
means of splitting tracks. Did I overlook something?
