Hello, all. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck using the soundfont
bank manager with the creative x-fi sound cards. I have a really great
sound font that I'd like to use, but can't seem to find a way to load it
independently. I had it loaded when my computer first got built, but
Creative recently released a firmware update for my sound card, so the
sound fond I'd like to use is no longer loaded. I can just have someone
sighted load it for me next time there's an opportunity and I actually
remember to ask, but in the mean time, if anyone has any suggestions on
 how
I can do this myself, I would really appreciate hearing from them. Thank

DRM WMA conversion to MP3.

2008-06-15 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Folks:

I just purchased an audio book that was recorded as DRM WMA file files.
Because rockbox will not play DRM WMA I need to convert the files to MP3.

A couple of questions:
1. Is there a good free converter out there?
2. If not, has anyone, through testing, determined which program might be the
best to purchase?

I know how and where to find them; however, none of them seem to have a fully
functioning trial version.

Thanks all over the place gang.

Re: loading a soundfont into soundblaster x-fi extreme music

2008-06-15 Thread Missy Hoppe
Hi! I'm glad I'm not the only one that had that opinion. It used to be
accessible with the audigy card. Then, when I got the x-fi, it was pretty
inaccessible, but somehow, even though I ended up having sighted assistance
in actually loading a font, I was at least able to play around with it a
little. Now, with this newest firmware update, it seems like the made it
even less accessible somehow, although that could be my imagination. I just
don't see what was wrong with the old audigy soundfont manager; they could
have stuck with that interface, and everyone would have been happy. Ah
well. thanks for the response, and I hope that you're having a great day!

a question about a tab in sounds in control panel

2008-06-15 Thread Josh
Hello,
I have a question about a combo box that has been a mystery to me for a very
long time. Ok, go to start menu, and then control panel, go under sounds and
audio devices, then choose the volume tab. And then tab to the advanced
playback button and hit space or enter on it and then go to the effects tab,
once there, hit tab and you'll be in the effects combo box and mine says,
none. what is this for? I also have an effects tab under advanced recording
and it says, none in the combo box and that is the only option. Where can I
get effects, and what do they do?

Let me make another suggestion after reflecting on Bruce's and Jonathan's
 comments.
First, let me say I have about as much interest in reading about personal
broadcasts as taking a vacation into the eye of a category 5 hurricane.
i could care less as I don't have an interest in homebrew internet radio
as there is already plenty of mainstream streams out there.
Having said this, and as Friday the 13th is a rather rare occasion, let's
try this on Friday and see just what happens.
After Friday, Tom can sit back and evaluate the results -- how many posts,
how many negative ones posted publicly and privately, how many thank yous
both ways, and all the rest.
And see if it has a positive or negative impact on postings down the road.
Maybe twice a month is too much, but maybe a few times a year (such as on
Fridays the 13th might make sense.
While this kind of posting has no interest to me, there are people out
there that do value this kind of stuff.
Bruce and Jonathan are right that there are other lists for this kind of
thing; but, on the other hand, not everyone either knows about those lists
or would care to be bombarded by the incessant repeats week after week of
 the same thing.
These shows, whatever we think of them, are a part of the world of pc
audio and show casing them for a day or so will hurt no one especially if
we can code the subject lines.

Well I am amazed about all the podcasts there are and have been for the past
few years, and they certainly can help us with our PC Audio prowess!

There will be no change to the rules and guidelines for the
pc audio list. Thanks to all for your thoughtful and
enlightening comments. I actually aggree with most of the
posts thinking that an e-mail list should be rather
restrictive in the content that is permitted. I'll explain
my reasoning below for making the suggestion if anyone is
interested in reading it. Otherwise, go to the next message.

A week or so ago there were a few comments posted to the list
about a piece of software that was no longer going to be
accessible with a screen reader. Shortly after reading those
posts I listened to the May issue of FS Cast and was amazed
what all Jonathan was doing with the PAC Mate Omni. I got to
thinking, and me thinking is a problem in itself, this is
something any blind person who is the least bit interested in
audio and computers should hear. I'm sure those podcasts
have more listeners than this list has members, but there
might be members of this list who aren't aware of that
podcast. Likewise, there are other podcasts that I think are
extremely helpful in teaching and demonstrating a lot of
accessible hardware and software and perhaps a few list
members would find them of interest. I think sometimes, we
emphasize too much the negative and forget the positives of
 accessibility.

 Thanks again,

 Tom

Re: DRM WMA conversion to MP3.

2008-06-15 Thread doc
Sound taxi will do it. It cost only $19 but I believe well worth it.

I've heard a program called Sound taxi can do this. I think it has a
limited functionality demo. I don't use it myself, so unfortunately I
can't say more. Hopefully, this will point you in a promising direction
 though.

   Hi Folks:

I just purchased an audio book that was recorded as DRM WMA file
files. Because rockbox will not play DRM WMA I need to convert the files
 to MP3.

   A couple of questions:
   1. Is there a good free converter out there?
   2. If not, has anyone, through testing, determined which program
might be the best to purchase?

I know how and where to find them; however, none of them seem to have
 a fully functioning trial version.

Thanks all over the place gang.

I've had great luck with the LTB Q-BASS-U

Blue Tooth stereo headphone / microphone. It's the only one I know of
designed with two ear cups designed for Hi-Fidelity stereo listening as
 well
as communicating. I've even had some customers who like it so much they
bought two. It's $149.00, includes shipping within the United States,
 allow
$35.00 for shipments outside the United States.
