For converting .3gp files, if they're not encrypted, try easy CDDA
Extractor.

Eventually the MP3 format will be replaced by something smaller.

It already has been; M4A produces smaller an better quality sound files; and
AACPlus files are better and smaller still.

I never heard of this file extension before, but my first hit on
google.com lead me to http://filext.com/file-extension/3GP, where it
said:

3GPP and 3GPP2 are the new worldwide standards for the creation,
delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed
wireless networks.
Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and 3rd Generation
Partnership Project 2 respectively, these standards seek to provide
uniform delivery
of rich multimedia over newly evolved, broadband mobile networks (3rd
generation networks) to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless devices.
3GPP and
3GPP2 are based on the MPEG-4 standard which was derived from Apple's
QuickTime. QuickTime 6.5 includes support for key components of the
3GPP and 3GPP2

specifications. The Macintosh type is: 3GPP

So obviously, quicktime will play 3GP files. A little bit of checking
revealed that quite a few of the audio/video converters will handle 3GP
files including Switch and Replay Converter, the two that I'm familiar
with.

Realtek HD Audio Card help

2009-02-08 Thread Terese Ann Goren

Hey Everyone,

I was about to audition for my spot on ACB radio when I realized my
mic was looping back on itself. I've looked at all the forums and
from what I've seen I've got things set up right but I can't seem to
find a fix for this. I have a Realtek HD Audio Card and from what I
understand many folks have problems adjusting the mic settings. Can
anyone suggest a fix for this or can anyone suggest a good
alternative replacement that does work with Window Eyes? I have a
LapTalk so I'm not sure I can swap them out. Come to think of it I
was told the last time I used skype I was looping back badly then
too. Until a month ago my mic wasn't working at all so i guess I'm
making some progress, lol. Thanks much for your help.

All 2 wav.

Hello!
I have found a really great and free program which can record anything you
want.
Its called all2wav and can be found at:
http://www.naturpic.com/naturpic/all2wav/
At least accessible with Hal version 10 so i guess you can use it with jaws
and we.
You can record from url media file, including playlists (at least when i
have tried) and from another aplication.
Just trying it out and i must say i like it.

Re: ABC.COM's Full Episode Player

2009-02-08 Thread Gary King

Cornell,
Go to:

www.abc.com

and search for one of the shows that have full episodes, such as Private
Practice. When you activate the link to watch the show, and you don't have
the Full Episode Player plug-in installed in Internet Explorer, you will
receive a message stating that you need to install it. From that point, you
will need to use the JAWS cursor or Mouse Pointer in Window-Eyes to click
where appropriate, since the installation is not too speech friendly. Once
the player is installed, try to play a show. I get the player window, which
Window-Eyes reports has 3 objects, and JAWS just remains silent, except for
giving me its title. I cannot find any controls, and the show doesn't start
to play.

Oh, yes, by the way, unless you have a separate sound source for your screen
reader, it will have to compete with the promos of ABC programs that play
when you go to the web site, and apparently can't be silenced.

Good luck to anyone who gives the player a try, and if it works for you,
tell me what you did.

Hi Roger,

I put the following phrase:
converting m4p files to MP3 or wav
into Google and lots of hits came up. I'm not musically
aware enough to know what an m4p file is, but maybe if you
put the same phrase into Google one of the hits will help
you.

A little tricky. When you go to the record controls, (use the windows

Re: converting mp3 to gp3 or mp4 etc question

2009-02-08 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You can use Switch Sound File converter. The FAQ on the files types
supported, which includes a link where you can download the program, is
at http://www.nch.com.au/switch/kb/747.html. This is a 14 day free
trial, but after the 14 days is up, it'll still work in a limited
fashion, but converting from MP3 files won't be effected.

I personally wouldn't be too quick to convert your MP3 files, unless
you're desperate for space. there hasn't been a media player--to my
knowledge--that hasn't supported MP3 files, and I doubt this will happen
any time soon. Furthermore, there will always be programs to convert
from MP3 (there are just too many of them out there right now) to other
file types, so you could just wait until this is needed.

Also you won't be improving the quality of your music, and in fact, you
may be introducing artifacts. If you're looking for a smaller footprint
with better quality, you'd have to go back to your original source.

For my part, I'm still ripping music into the MP3 file format. I'm no
audiofile, and the convenience of MP3 just can't be beat. I know I can
play it anywhere. Note that I have been toying with the idea of
switching file formats, but I haven't settled on a new format yet, and
I'm not in any hurry.
