Sony Software have come to their senses

2009-11-10 Thread Dane trethowan
Okay, I'm not as bias against Sound Forge as I was, not that I really had
anything against the software mind you, I used it for quite some time but when
I started using the software, I paid over $900.00 for it and the upgrade costs
were considerable. Now? Well as many listers will now, the Audio Studio -
that's the version most people will probably want to use - is a bargain! in my
view at under $60.00 and the Pro version is also reasonably priced at $350.00.

I don't know how easy to use the Pro version is so perhaps other list members
may be able to fill me in on this.

I stil think Goldwave is an excellent product because the developers of same
have gone out of their way to make the product accessible so that's one huge
advantage Goldwave has over Sound Forge, to my knowledge - if you want to
access Sound Forge properly with a JAWS system - you need scripts which you
have to pay for. If you wish to access Sound Forge with Window-Eyes then there
are ways and means of gaining access to controls but it can be a little tricky
for those who don't have a nack of fiddling with Window-Eyes parameters and
so on, I'm not aware of any Window-Eyes scripts for Sound Forge but I've never
relied on such things anyway.

I'm Using Sound Forge Audio Studio 9 and I'm impressed! with the Getting
Started tutorials that launch when you start the application, a nice touch and
easily accessible through Windows Internet Explorer, the next thing I'd like to
see - if possible - from Sony Software is n online manual for Sound Forge in
HTML format as you'll find in Goldwave but the Getting Started tutorials are
certainly a positive, welcome and encouraging step in the right direction.

Finally, I'm not trying to be a know-it-all here, after all its been quite
some time since I've used Sound Forge, my feelings for Windows software aren't
as sensitive as they used to be, there's a very special something about using
audio and video editing software and the like for the Mac but perhaps the
performance differences and speed increases are another topic for another group
of messages smile.

No, well perhaps it would have been a lot cheaper had I bought the product
online, my only option 10 years ago was to purchase it from a Music Store.

RE: Sony Software have come to their senses

2009-11-10 Thread Ray
Well, first off, we're into the vagueries of currency exchange rates here and
I've no idea of the value of the Australian Doller vs. other currencies.

Re. Sound Studio, yes it's a bargain, but I beleive there aren't scripts for
it in the JFW world. Seem to remember Jim Snowbarger of Sound Forge Scripts
fame has said he'd have to start from scratch with Sound Studio if he was to
do scripts for it. Window-eyes may eventually get more scripting for this and
Sound Forge in particular. They've just appointed a proffessional script
writer who maybe also will co-ordinate much needed work on scripting for audio
editors.

I've been a long time user of SF7 and find it very easy to use. It has been
described as being the equivelant of word processing for audio, and that's how
I find it when I do our weekly talking newspaper. I understand SF9 is faster
and of course is multi-channel, though not multi-track.

To me Goldwave seems less intuitive but I am pretty sure I'd have got used to
the different way of working if that's what I'd had four or five years back.
You certainly cannot quible at the price; very good value for money. I do
find too that in it's evaluation mode it handles file conversion more
straightforwardly than Sound Forge does.

Remember though that if you want an audio editor that's very easy for vi users
then of course it has to be Sound Studio, I think it's called, from A P H.
More expensive than Goldwave but really good for narration and spoken word,
but I believe people now do good voice over work with it and some music
related stuff, though it doesn't support noise reduction plug-ins.

F.S. realised that that is the way most people like to operate so they
provide a menu function for it.

Use insert+J to go to the Jaws menu. Go down to utilities and in the
utilities menu, you will find an entry for sound cards which will take
 you
into a sub-menu that shows your sound cards plus an entry called Windows
default sound device. The default device is whatever you have set as the
default device in control panel|sounds|audio devices.

 Hi all.

I've just moved onto JAWS 11.

In previous versions of JAWS and on XP Home computers, I have been able
 to
put JAWS through the on-board sound card and speakers, whilst sending all
other audio out to an external Soundblaster sound card.

This was achieved by inserting a line of text in the JFW.ini file.

I attempted to duplicate this method in JAWS 11 but unfortunately, it did
 not work.

Anyone had a go at doing this yet? Very much welcome your advice if you
 know how to do this.

 Very best wishes.
 Andy.

with another one.

Hi. This has been talked about several times on list. I recently found a great
resource for those interested in foobar. I do not reccomend this program to
beginners or to people who do not like to explore and customize there own
programs. Another words, if you like something to work right out-of-the-box with
scripts and everything. This program is not for you. I might add that jfw works
better than Windoweyes at this point. Hopefully someone will take a few seconds
and make a couple of tweaks for a WE script.
Anyway, if you are tired of winamps bells and whistles. Would like a program
where you can manage several playlists at a time, break away from the norm...
You get my point. Check out this media player for yourself. here is a neat
website to learn about foobar. Keep in mind this site was not created for blind
people but everything is really straight forward. I have been a foobar user for
over a year and a half and I love it. For example, I have my tv shows in one
playlist, my regular listening music in another, some live streams in another,
and a book I'm currently listening too as well. Everytime i open foobar their
are the playlists like I left them.
Anyway sorry for the long post. Just found this site and thought it might be
useful. http://winamp2foobar.blogspot.com/

Yep. I happen to like making my own shortcut keys and you can do it for
every command in the program. Pretty neat!

On that website they ask for suggestions of thingsw that aren't mentioned.
I'll bet if someone had the mind to they could make a jfw or we script or
something. When you play/pause a file the time is shown on the bottom line.

F.S. realised that that is the way most people like to operate so they
provide a menu function for it.

 Andy.

F.S. realised that that is the way most people like to operate so they
provide a menu function for it.

 Andy.

Hi. This has been talked about several times on list. I recently found a
great
resource for those interested in foobar. I do not reccomend this program to
beginners or to people who do not like to explore and customize there own
programs. Another words, if you like something to work right out-of-the-box
with
scripts and everything. This program is not for you. I might add that jfw
works
better than Windoweyes at this point. Hopefully someone will take a few
seconds
and make a couple of tweaks for a WE script.
Anyway, if you are tired of winamps bells and whistles. Would like a program
where you can manage several playlists at a time, break away from the
norm...
You get my point. Check out this media player for yourself. here is a neat
website to learn about foobar. Keep in mind this site was not created for
blind
people but everything is really straight forward. I have been a foobar user
for
over a year and a half and I love it. For example, I have my tv shows in one
playlist, my regular listening music in another, some live streams in
another,
and a book I'm currently listening too as well. Everytime i open foobar
their
are the playlists like I left them.
Anyway sorry for the long post. Just found this site and thought it might be
useful. http://winamp2foobar.blogspot.com/

I burn with WMP 11 and after loading the temporary folder, in the file menu,

Another method you may consider, what about using the Test write mode in the
burning application you're using? In this mode, the drive does a write of the
CD but turns the laser off so no data is written to the drive at all, this is
handy for checking to see if there are any errors when writing to CD'S.

hello, if you dont use a burning program, you can use windows explorer.
when you insert a blank cd into the drive a list of options will appear.
click open writable cd folder. then click on the folder name where the files
are stored. then copy each track. then when you click on write to cd you
will have options 1. audio cd and 2 data cd. check 1 of those and then hit
next.
depending on setup windows media player opens and you select start burn. and
it flies no problem.

i use this all the time. but i also use nero 8.
