RE: Another sound card question

2009-12-12 Thread Dave
No cause when you go into the Jaws cursor it only reads out volume volume
volume, Balance, Balance balance; it doesn't even see any other controls
out there. And the other speech programs say that the advanced is
unavailable so no, not Jaws issue. Would that it was so easy.

Dave: This is just a shot in the dark..but would it have anything to do
with (if you are running Jaws)..how Jaws is configured? But then
again..you've probably thought of that; like I said..just a shot in the
dark!

Fwd: New Window-Eyes Scripts for TeamTalk

2009-12-12 Thread Steve Pattison
From: J.J. Meddaugh j...@bestmidi.com

I'm pleased to announce the release of scripts for the popular TeamTalk voice
chat client.
Written in colaberation with Stephen Clower, this script provides enhanced
functionality
for the TeamTalk application.
Version 4.0 of TeamTalk is highly recommended, and the classic interface must
be used for the scripts to function. We have not tested these with TeamTalk 3,
though parts may work.

Script features include:
Obtain the name of the current channel, current topic, or the contents of the
chat window using hotkeys. Additional key labels are added to make navigation
simpler.
The status of voice activation (on or off) is spoken when Control-Shift-V is
pressed, or press a hotkey to hear the current status without toggling it. When
pressing arrow
keys in the position users window, the new position will be read
automatically. If the Progressindicator script is loaded, the TeamTalk progress
bar is automatically disabled, as it is generally not relevant.

It's available on Script Central through the usual methods.
If you're looking for a public TeamTalk server, sign up for a free account at
http://www.zonebbs.com

Please write me with any comments or suggestions.

2009-12-12 Thread tim
hi, thanks, also if I don't want timer recording or anything, how do I turn
it off completely, I made one the other day, and it turned off right in the
middle of it I hadn't even stopped it it just beeped at me I thought the
batteries might had been low but they weren't but when I played it back it
played just fine just cut off at the 4 min mark or so so wondering what
might have caused that? thanks much! lol this way if I am making something
it doesn't cut off right in the middle of it

Very easy, to adjust recording level when set to manual, you press left or
right arrows. 16 levels.

To increase playback monitor volume through headphones while recording, up
and down arrows work in the usual way.

What isn't immediately apparent about the Dm-520 internal mics is that
the

unit works a bit like a shot-gun. Most of the sound is taken in from the
top end of the unit, not from the front or back sides of the machine.

So, if you are recording a person, you really want to point the end of
the

unit towards their voice, not hold the unit vertically.

I haven't done major tests with external mics, and I don't know what the
real mic preamp noise is like on the machine. I hope it is a lot better
than the audio quality on the DS-71 when external mics are used, as it
was

below par in my view.

For the record, this machine isn't very downwards compatible with the mic
extension cord and remote switch that comes with the DS-50 and the DS-71.
I
made a remote recording the other day, only to find it was blank. This
was

with a monaural external mic. Wasn't very happy.

Hello,
Appologies if this has already been covered in this thread. Open the
Windows Volume Control and press the alt keyto get to the options menu.
Arrow down past the properties dialog and you'll hit the advanced controls
checkbox. Make sure this is checked. Depending on the card you'll either
get tone controls or the ability to boost your mic gain by 10db. It varies
with the card and I have come across both. HTH.

Friends, I'm using a dell machine.
I'm gonna be doing a bit of house cleaning on this machine including
getting some new cd/dvd drives.

This wise gjy techie kindly left me with no disc to update the drivers.
Why the drivers? I need to update them so they will play automatically. I
am not getting that now.

Do they usually come with discs with driver updates?
and, can I play cd's and blue ray and regular dvd's as wellz/ What are the
best brands for my desktop?

how do you select with fedback weather to charge or data transfer, when I
plug the unit in, it does nothing untill I unplugg it from the PC, thanks,
when I just have it un plugged and press the middle button on the side and
hold it down, it says recharging mode and does nothing.

Subject: RE: Some questions about batteries in the Olympus DM-520

Re batteries on DM-520

1. When USB is connected from the pc, you need to select (with voice
feedback whether you want to charge, or connect the unit for data
transfer.

2. It doesn't automatically try and charge any batteries, you either need
to initiate this, or select the mode.

3. I had some reliability problems - but really didn't dig deeply to
resolved it, with the supplied batteries, which it said were fully
charged,
but which were behaving oddly, so I mainly use regular AAA's in the
device.

4. As with the DS-71, the batter level is announced when ever you power
the
machine off and on, so it is easy to be sure your batteries have
sufficient

juice for a recording session ahead.

Subject: Some questions about batteries in the Olympus DM-520

I just placed an order for the Olympus DM-520 and was reading through the
manual which I found online at www.olympusamerica.com. In reading, I saw
that when using the supplied rechargable batteries, one must connect the
unit to a PC and hold the stop button until the indicator lets one know
that

the unit is charging. How is this accomplished if you can't see the
indicator?

If I choose not to use the rechargable batteries and just plop some
regular

batteries in the recorder, will the recorder try to charge the
nonrechargable batteries when I attach it to the PC to transfer files? Any
light shed on this point would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I decided to get the sound professionals binaural mics used on so many
Blind Cool Tech podcasts. They are model SP-TFB-2. Together with a bag to
keep the mics in the total was $81. With my $25 Pay Pal reward voucher it
came down to around $56. Not a bad price. If I decide to get the wind
screens later I can always do that.

Very easy, to adjust recording level when set to manual, you press
left or right arrows. 16 levels.

To increase playback monitor volume through headphones while
recording, up and down arrows work in the usual way.

What isn't immediately apparent about the Dm-520 internal mics is
that the unit works a bit like a shot-gun. Most of the sound is
taken in from the top end of the unit, not from the front or back
 sides of the machine.

So, if you are recording a person, you really want to point the end
of the unit towards their voice, not hold the unit vertically.

I haven't done major tests with external mics, and I don't know what
the real mic preamp noise is like on the machine. I hope it is a lot
better than the audio quality on the DS-71 when external mics are
used, as it was below par in my view.

For the record, this machine isn't very downwards compatible with the
mic extension cord and remote switch that comes with the DS-50 and the
DS-71.
 I
made a remote recording the other day, only to find it was blank.
This was with a monaural external mic. Wasn't very happy.

hi, thanks, also if I don't want timer recording or anything, how do I
turn
it off completely, I made one the other day, and it turned off right in
the

middle of it I hadn't even stopped it it just beeped at me I thought the
batteries might had been low but they weren't but when I played it back it
played just fine just cut off at the 4 min mark or so so wondering what
might have caused that? thanks much! lol this way if I am making something
it doesn't cut off right in the middle of it

Very easy, to adjust recording level when set to manual, you press
left or right arrows. 16 levels.

To increase playback monitor volume through headphones while
recording, up and down arrows work in the usual way.

jack for

external mike, the first and later one haven't tryed, just been using
the internal mikes so far. what am wondering is how in the world if
the recording level is set to manual, how to adjust it volume, etc.

Thanks.

Hello,
Appologies if this has already been covered in this thread. Open the
Windows Volume Control and press the alt keyto get to the options menu.
Arrow down past the properties dialog and you'll hit the advanced controls
checkbox. Make sure this is checked. Depending on the card you'll either
get tone controls or the ability to boost your mic gain by 10db. It
varies with the card and I have come across both. HTH.

Hello, sorry for the late reply, but if play list window is open, it
speaks the new track, but if it is not, then JAWS key+V (adjust JAWS
options), script lets you switch this and many more things, but this
applies to the latest scripts available on the site:

 High Robert,
The best way to make that happen is, uninstalling and reinstalling
 Winamp.
That's how I always got it to work for me.
If there is a setting for this, I don't know where it is or what it is.
 My best regards.

Is there a way to get jaws to announce the track when it switches

 automatically but not on others.
