Looking for a source of sound effects
Hi. I do a show on the internet, and I'm looking for some sound effects that I could use to liven things up a bit. I have a CD with cartoon music in it, and that has sound effects that I've added to the mix. I'd just like to get some more. Thanks in advance for the help. Hi Judy! Well I don't have studio recorder actually, I just have the CDEx program for ripping and converting files. but I may think of an idea, I was testing the audacity program, not too long ago, and it came with that newest version, but it's says lameMp3 for audacity, but I think I can try copying the dll file to the CDEx directory in the programs folder or so, I'm not sure but I'll try. You can't just hit the button five times and be five books further up or down the list, you have to listen to it read every single number, with puases between. And, sometimes, it stops after a number and pauses for a few seconds before reading either the book title or moving onto the next number. Re: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents
Yeah, the booksense does have it's shortcomings, like short battery life and an inadequate search feature. On the other hand it is a newer technology with a better USB interface and more ROM to expand the programing. Personally I can't see why anyone would switch to another player if you already owned the Stream unless you needed the radio, bluetooth or the voices of the booksense. Despite the Stream being an older technology it does have a few advantages that the Booksense doesn't have like a company behind it that has been designing DAISY playback for years, 3 to 4 extra hours of playback time which should be real important, and this might just be my opinion, a company with a more honest marketing strategy at least as far as its player is concerned. On Dec 26, 2009, at 2:30 PM, Kevin Cussick wrote: Hello, For me the stream is the unit I will continue to use because of the American voices you can at least use a UK voice with the stream. Re: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents
It does have Bluetooth, a FM radio, 4 GHZ internal memory and USB 2.0, at least the pricier model does, the standard model only boasts USB 2.0. The booksense also because it is a newer player and can take advantage of newer designs in memory that weren't around when the Stream was designed has a clock, supports recording in .mp3 and .wav formats, can play .AAC and enhanced audible files and is promising to be able to play .wma protected files. This might be true, although it can't do it yet and every other player out there including the Victor Reader Stream has promised this at one time or other. On Dec 26, 2009, at 5:25 AM, Adrien wrote: Hi It all depends on what those new features are and how important they are, perhaps someone on here can tell us what those new features may be? The thing which puts me off the booksense is the battery time, it only lasts 12 hours and doesn't stop using battery time even when it is switched off, the stream shuts off completely. What doesn't work is that you can't download using the old version of audible. That means that you will have to download the files on one computer using the newer version of audible manager and set up the old version of audible manager on a second computer and transfer the files to that computer to be decoded. It is an annoyingly cumbersome process but it is doable and you get the best sound quality possible using goldwave. RE: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents
This is interesting, so last night I tried, just for fun flipping from book to book to book. It flipped through them as fast as I could punch the button. I didn't have to wait for the whole title to be spoken. I'm not sure what your complaint is here. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tim Grady Sent: Monday, December 28, 2009 4:35 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents Who told you that? The only thing that keeps me using it is that I can download my own books, when I want them, and no library is telling me that I have too many or I need to send them back. I find many things about the Victor irritating. For example, I hate how slowly the machine goes through a list of NLS books. You can't just hit the button five times and be five books further up or down the list, you have to listen to it read every single number, with puases between. And, sometimes, it stops after a number and pauses for a few seconds before reading either the book title or moving onto the next number. I am supposing that they used less than the best options for software. I have it sat to normal stereo and constant bit rate for highest quality sound. This is just a suggestion that I thought mite help you solve your problem. My best regards. I don't believe the monoblock analogy is strictly correct. All the advice I have seen is to use normal stereo for decent encoded files at bit rates of 192kbps and higher and only use the joint stereo psychoacoustic trick on very poor files encoded at lower bit rates. Regular stereo, is having those same pare of speakers hooked up to a stereo amplifier. The joint stereo, gives better stereo channel separation then the regular stereo. Hope this helps.
