question about playing Bard books on computer
A friend has downloaded and been registered with Bard, but he hasn't yet gotten the player from the library. Can he play Bard books through his computer, or does he need the player hooked up to his computer to play them? Quick Time tries to open but it doesn't recognize the file extension. Hi Joanne. You can't play Bard books on the PC. This is done on purpose so they can't be copied for others not registered with Bard to use. When your friend gets his player, he'll need either a flash drive or blank cartridge to put the book on in order to play it in the NLS player. If you have more questions, send 'em on. High Joann, I tried to play NLS books on my computer only to get a message that says, you are not authorized to play this book. If you need any help, contact your cooperating library. So your friend will need the digital talking book player and an NLS cartridge and or some kind of a USB flash drive in order to play the NLS books on the player. Hope this helps. My best regards. So Kevin, in order to keep books could I also use an external drive to store them? And then in order to play them I'd need a cartridge so they can be listened to? I use my Zenstone 1gb player to transfer MLS books to my NLS digital player. Hello Joann, Yes you can put them on an external hard drive. And yes, you will need an NLS cartridge and the USB cable in order to download the books to play them on your NLS player. And or, you can buy a USB flash drive to put the books on too as well. But be wear, some USB flash drives will not work to well with the NLS player. Stay away from the Sand Disc or any of those USB flash drives that has the U3 software on them. It's USB flash drives like these that throws the NLS player in to a tail spend. My best regards. Yes, if you download any books to your PC, you'll need to put them on a blank cartridge, a USB flash drive or some other USB attachable drive that you can plug into your NLS player. Note that only a blank cartridge is officially supported by the NLS, but other flash drives do work. You can find out more at the BARD Talk web site at http://www.bardtalk.com/. For example, you can find out where to purchase blank cartridges and which flash drives people have gotten to work with the NLS player. Of course, you can store these books on your hard drive and transfer them to your cartridge or flash drive as needed. You can also just leave them on the BARD site and download them when you need them. There are also several DAISY book readers that will play NLS books, such as the Booksense and the Victor Stream. You'll need a code to access the BARD books, but you can get this from the maker of your DAISY book player. Again, you can get this information from the BARD site, the BARD Talk web site or your state library service. You cannot play BARD books on your PC. I've exchanged emails with people at the NLS, and contrary to popular opinion, this isn't because they're worried about the material being copied. It has more to do with how to spend their limited resources and get the most books into people's hands the quickest. In other words, coming up with a DAISY player for the PC or working out an authorization scheme for existing DAISY players, such as FS Reader, just wasn't high enough on their priority list. Remember that NLS doesn't just support computer savvy people, and furthermore, a lot of computer savvy people aren't interested in reading books on their PC. Hi Dan, I think you might have accidentally pressed the letter f. After pressing q, press f. This toggles something off and on, but I can't find in my notes at present exactly what it toggles. I did test it though and can reproduce your problem. In graduation, the students make a 2 to three minute speech. I then paste that speech over a meaningful piece of one of their favorite songs. This clipis then merged into a powerpoint presentation with photos of their life at school. The clip is played as they come up on stage. Anyway, I tried pressing q again and it just stops selecting and pressing it again, allows me to select again. How do I make the selection play as I move across it? sound card issue with gold wave
Hey guys, Having an interesting issue. I'm trying to get audio out of my external tascam 2488 over to my computer to record in to gold wave. For some reason when i have my output of the taskam going in to my sound card which is a usb, i can't hear anything. I've got the headphones plugged in to the headphone jack, but am hearing nothing. Any ideas? I'm lost. The interesting thing, there are like 4 sound cards that show up, i know one of them is the usb, but it doesn't show it as a usb sound card, and 1 is the on board sound.
