Re: Question about recording Live365 streams.
Hi all, I doubt it, unless the person's sound card supports a feature similar to Stereo Mix. This is where Total Recorder and Replay A/V at least comes into its own; you do not need a card with this feature to record sound card output; just use the special drivers that come with the software and it just works. Mad mad world!!
From: David Pardy pa...@waitrose.com Date: Thu, 12 Aug 2010 12:53:44 +0100 how about this for crazy litigation! http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/the-staggers/2010/08/legal-case-murdoch-claims-sky Rupert Murdoch claims to own the Sky in Skype Posted by George Eaton - 11 August 2010 09:38 The most absurd legal case of the year? Rupert Murdoch. Photograph: Getty Images. I have to confess that when I first heard the news that Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB had launched a legal challenge to Skype I thought April Fool's Day had come early, not least because the basis of the lawsuit is that the company claims to own the Sky in Skype. But it transpired that the case was genuine, and that BSkyB has been ensconced in a legal battle with Skype for the past five years. The news emerged only after a brief reference to the legal action in the 250-page document announcing Skype's Wall Street flotation. A spokesman for Sky said: The key contention in the dispute is that the brands 'Sky' and 'Skype' will be considered confusingly similar by members of the public. To which I can only reply that I have never linked the two and can't think of anyone who has. But it seems that the EU has upheld Sky's complaint and, should Skype lose its forthcoming appeal, the company may be forced to change its name. One wonders if others who have had the temerity to use the word sky in their work will now fall foul of the Dirty Digger. The Media Blog names some of those who may need to watch their back here. UPDATE: BSkyB has been in touch to point out that the dispute concerns several trademark applications filed by Skype, including, but not limited to, television-related goods and services. It's fair to say that were Skype's name to appear on a set-top box, Sky would have a better case. But I'm sure most people could make the distinction. Sky may claim its customer research suggests members of the public would be confused by the similarity, but the key question is this: did any of the people surveyed consider Sky and Skype similar before they were asked? Yep, the noise reduction in Total Recorder is very good but I'd say the one in Goldwave is easier for anyone to set up but regardless of all that, Total Recorder and Goldwave can work hand in hand together and I myself have suggested in answer to questions about what tools anyone should have in their audio basket, Total Recorder and Goldwave are indeed must have's. Probably a lot of truth in that as I only wanted to reduce some background noise, I copied a sample of the type of noise I wanted to reduce and used that for my envelope. As you say I could have played around a little more but I was happy with the results I got the first time around, was worried that if I played the result may have been too Expanded. Depends on what edition you want, I think standard is about $18.00 and professional is $36.00, video edition I'm not sure of the price at all as I upgraded from Total Recorder Audio Professional to Total Recorder Video Professional. Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave, I'm probably stating the very obvious
Good evening, Rick and list. A sound editor with audio cuing means that you can hear the sound as it is being selected for some type of manipulation or reprocessing, e.g., marking an audio clip for deletion or to add a slight echo or reverb. It is essentially being able to listen in slow rewind or fast forward mode as you move start and finish markers, thus taking the guesswork out of making very minor adjustments in setting markers. Let me know if this doesn't clarify. Hi, well, in gw, one can listen to the selection and set how fast or how slow the rewind and fastforward plays, so one could half or quarter the speed on one and speed up the other if one wished. so, as i understand what you're saying, gw does have this ability. msn bellevue@gmail.com skype lord_of_beer last fm http://last.fm/lord_of_beer - Original Message - From: Rob Tabor rob.ta...@sbcglobal.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2010 10:08 PM Subject: Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave,I'm probably stating the very obvious Good evening, Rick and list. Right, well if he means scrubbing then Goldwave has the best scrubbing facilities I've ever seen in an audio editor and its controlled by the use of the j, k and l and shift-j, shift-k and shift-l keys. In summary, j k and l control the direction whilst shift-j shift-k and shift-l control the speed. Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave, I'm probably stating the very obvious
Hi, Richard and list. We are talking about somewhat different functions here. GW and other audio packages let you set rewind and fast forward speeds, but what I refer to is the ability to hear audible feedback as you set markers. However, the drawback here is pretty minor as it is easy to confirm a selected audio clip which is done by typing F3 if you don't change the factory default key for playback 2. I refer to this as sound cuing and another gentleman called it scrubbing. In essence, this means yyou are able to hear the audio as you adjust start and/or finish markers to reprocess an audio clip. Hope this helps. best regards Rob Tabor - Original Message - From: richard claypool bellevue@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2010 9:20 PM Subject: Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave,I'm probably stating the very obvious Hi, well, in gw, one can listen to the selection and set how fast or how slow the rewind and fastforward plays, so one could half or quarter the speed on one and speed up the other if one wished. so, as i understand what you're saying, gw does have this ability. msn bellevue@gmail.com skype lord_of_beer last fm http://last.fm/lord_of_beer - Original Message - From: Rob Tabor rob.ta...@sbcglobal.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2010 10:08 PM Subject: Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave,I'm probably stating the very obvious Good evening, Rick and list. Furthermore, the sections in the manual describing how the noise reduction system in Goldwave works are incredibly well written without boring anyone to sleep so all one has to do if they want to try the noise reduction function is to read for a minute or so and the have the basic knowledge required to get started. So what's Goldwave worth these days, $59.00 or thereabouts? Damn good value for money and I'd almost be tempted to say its a Giveaway! when one also considers its many built-in powerful functions and the fact that the author has gone out of his way to make this product accessible. Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave, I'm probably stating the very obvious
Hi, David and list. I have a recording of a presentation and want to get rid of a high piched hum, which disappears after the woman presenter switched to a wireless mic. What setting in GW noise reduction would you advise for reducing the hum to a nearly inaudible level for the first part of the presentation. Thanks in advance. Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave, I'm probably stating the very obvious
Well perhaps I'm not grasping exactly what you're saying but you can certainly use audio to adjust your start and end markers with Goldwave, there are shortcut key commands for doing this, the same is true of Total Recorder. Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave, I'm probably stating the very obvious
Firstly find a portion of hum which is on its own in the presentation, this only need be half a second long. Next copy that portion to the clipboard. Then select the area of audio you wish noise reduction to occur on. Then go into the Noise reduction filter and select the preset Envelope from Clipboard, press preview to see how the result will sound and adjust settings if and where appropriate, if satisfied then press the okay button and the effect will be applied.
