Question about mixing in Goldwave

2010-12-18 Thread Dave McElroy WA6BEF
Ok, I don't own a mixer at this time, but I'd like to record a greeting and
then place some music under it. Can this be done with Goldwave? Last time
I did this we just recorded on the Olympus while standing near a speaker,
but it sounded like it. lol

Thanks.

RE: Question about mixing in Goldwave

2010-12-18 Thread Walter
Yes you can. 1. Record your verbal greeting. 2. Move it from your Olympus
to your PC (you don't have to do this so long as you keep your Olympus
connected to the PC throughout the process). 3. Launch Gold Wave and open
the music file you wish to use. 4. Now with Gold Wave open the greeting
you recorded. 5. While in this file do a control+A to select all the file
then control+C to copy to the clipboard. 6. Press control+tab to take you
to the music file you already opened. 7. Press ALT and arrow right to edit
and then go down until you come to Mix and press enter. 8. You will now
land on the part where you decide at what point you want the mix to start.
It starts with hours then minutes then seconds and finally fractions of a
second. 9. Once you have decided where you want the mix to begin press the
tab key once and then the space bar to hear a preview. 10. If you are
happy with the preview, tab to OK and press the space bar then save your
file and that's it done. Walter.

Helping A Friend

2010-12-18 Thread Kris Hickerson
Hi All,

What is the absolutely simplest CD copying program? Something where you can
just bring up a screen and click copy and it does it. Is there such an
animal?

I'm trying to help someone who is not very computer savvy.

Also, for me, I'd like to communicate, off list, with someone who is very
comfortable and familiar with iTunes. I also have jTunes installed, but I
still find it to be a nightmare.

Thanks much.

adjustments to station playlist

2010-12-18 Thread Bob Seed

I am using station play list for an over the air information radio station,
and would like to make adjustments to the play list, as the items are too
close together. This setting which I presume is the default setting would be
good for music stations, as you can move from one song to another with a
smooth transition, unfortunately it does not work well for voice, as some of
the items get clipped. Is there a way around this?

Thanks in advance

Hi.
I would go for CDex. All you do is start CDex, insert the CD, wait for
all the tracks to appear, press a key and copying starts.

Re: adjustments to station playlist

2010-12-18 Thread Danny Miles
Hi Bob. I think you can go through the options dialogue and uncheck
the box which is defaulted to cross fading. If this option is
removed, tracks will not have their volumes faded at the end, so you
shouldn't lose any vocals. However, I've only been using the
programme for a week or so, so maybe somebody more experienced will
confirm or contradict this.

And, whilst I'm here, I have my own (more vague) Station Playlist
question. I'm using Studio Pro on a laptop with one soundcard and no
mixer. I've enabled my microphone, but either my microphone settings,
input/output settings or monitoring settings are faulty. When I
toggle the mic on I can't hear anything in my headphones. When I
toggle the mic off again I hear my vocals for about half a second
before it goes quiet again. I know this is quite a wide-ranging
question, but can anybody please advise on which setting might be
wrong? I've read the help information which relates to the settings
but I'm horribly confused with all of the input mixers and output
mixers etc (especially as I'm not using a mixer at all).

Sorry for the basic question, but any help will be appreciated.

RE: Question about mixing in Goldwave

2010-12-18 Thread Walter
Hi. In that case, decide which file you want to change, your greeting or
the music. You can increase or decrease the volume in either file. When
you decide which file you want to change then open that file in Gold Wave
then press ALT+C then the letter U. Depending on what versionof Gold Wave
you have this will take you to the Change Volume option. Hit enter on
Change Volume and select the change you want to make to the file, then tab
to OK and then save your change. Walter.

Yep without a problem, use the Mix feature, you may have to drop a

I've done this with Goldwave though I have done it so I know its

Re: adjustments to station playlist

2010-12-18 Thread Bob Seed
In my case we are using voice messages only, and there is no need for cross
fading, just a fraction of a second for the transission of moving from one
item to another. The information loop is very fast, as it moves from item to
item. That fraction of a second would split things up quite nicely. .

Easy CD DA Extractor, configuration of output formats

2010-12-18 Thread Dane Trethowan

Hi!

It seems that in later versions of this product you cannot configure
custom output formats as you could with earlier versions of Easy CD DA
extractor, here's an example of the sort of thing I'm talking about.

I use MP3 VBR quality for my work however it would appear that I cannot
configure Easy CD DA Extractor to encode to this standard any longer,
all I get is the constatant bit rates of 128KBPS and so on with no
option it seems to create entirely new profiles, am I missing something
here?

Cheers!

A dtb question

2010-12-18 Thread Dave McElroy WA6BEF
I have a thumb drive breaking, (as it happens the one I use in my NLS
player, so I shifted all the files over to another thumb drive I found
around here. No joy at all! Oh I see that I have the right number of books
but not a one of them will play. Most of them say book error when I
attempt to play them.

So here's the stupid question for the day. Are there differently formatted
thumb drives that don't work well in NLS players? Is there some config
issue I'm not noticing?

Many thanks.

Re: Question about mixing in Goldwave

2010-12-18 Thread G. McFarlane

Hi
You could also use the voice over function in the effects menu. You do all
that's been suggested so far, i.e. up to selecting the voice file and
copying it to the clipboard (control C). In voice over set the first edit
field to where you wish the file to start, probably leave the second edit
field at 1 second although it can be adjusted for a slower or quicker
change, press OK and you will find the music plays at normal level but when
your speech begins, the background music reduces to let the speech come over
clearly. When the speech finishes the music increases again. If you find the
background music too loud or quiet, then you can adjust the amount it
reduces in the 3rd and 4th edit fields in Voice Over.

Walter.

Thanks Walter. What would I do about the volume as I don't want the music
to overshadow our voices?

Thanks.

Yes you can. 1. Record your verbal greeting. 2. Move it from your
Olympus

to your PC (you don't have to do this so long as you keep your Olympus
connected to the PC throughout the process). 3. Launch Gold Wave and open
the music file you wish to use. 4. Now with Gold Wave open the greeting
you recorded. 5. While in this file do a control+A to select all the
file

then control+C to copy to the clipboard. 6. Press control+tab to take you
to the music file you already opened. 7. Press ALT and arrow right to
edit

and then go down until you come to Mix and press enter. 8. You will now
land on the part where you decide at what point you want the mix to start.
It starts with hours then minutes then seconds and finally fractions of a
second. 9. Once you have decided where you want the mix to begin press
the

tab key once and then the space bar to hear a preview. 10. If you are
happy with the preview, tab to OK and press the space bar then save your
file and that's it done. Walter.

Ok, I don't own a mixer at this time, but I'd like to record a greeting
and
then place some music under it. Can this be done with Goldwave? Last
time

I did this we just recorded on the Olympus while standing near a speaker,
but it sounded like it. lol

Thanks.

Re: A dtb question

2010-12-18 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'd suggest checking out the BARD Talk web site. The FAQ page in
particular talks about things to watch out for when using a USB thumb
drive with your NLS player. The URL to the FAQ page is

attempt to play them.

So here's the stupid question for the day. Are there differently formatted
thumb drives that don't work well in NLS players? Is there some config
issue I'm not noticing?

Many thanks.

Dave, if you have other software on the second thumb drive, you need to
remove it.

If memory serves me, a U.3. smart drive doesn't work in the digital players
and some other kinds of Thumb drives will not work either. I am not sure of
the ones that will not work.
