Try this. When you go to the the programs menu. Find the qwitter group. On
the item that just says qwitter use the aplication key. There should be a
submenu called send to, open this and find the add shortcut to desktop
option. Hit enter and it should appear on your desktop. If you don't see
the qwitter name. look for it as shortcut to qwitter.exe or something
similar. If you'd like u can rename this by hitting f2 and just typing in
qwitter followed by enter.

Re: over the air tv on a win 7 machine?

2012-01-03 Thread Brett Boyer
Hi. From my experience tv tuners will carry this signal if it exists.
However, most cable providers and local networks don't carry the SAP feed or
if they do it's used for different languages and not description. Not that
there are many things described anymore.

Can this thing receive the audio description found on some network
programming? I know this stuff still exists today even though many digital
setups can't tune it in. I don't know if something needs to be in the
hardware of that USB tuner stick to receive the described audio, the
software, or both. I know TVSpeak from Codefactory on the software side is
said to do it with some of these PC tuners, but can they all do this now?
Also, I really don't want to put that much money on TVSpeak just to see if
the local affiliates even send that part of the signal on. Will the
included software with this thing, assuming any still work in XP, be able
to at least give me enough properties about the channel to verify the
presence or lack of the description track so I can tell if TVSpeak will be
a good investment for that purpose?

Thanks.

Vicky,
I am using an AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX TV Tuner Kit that I ordered from
amazon.com. It is a USB tuner that I use on my Windows 7 Home Premium
64-bit computer to receive free over-the-air signals with an antenna. I
don't have access to cable TV here. I can get all of my local channels
and one channel from about 70 miles away. If I can get a little better
antenna, I should be able to get the other channels that are available at
the same distance.

Once I got Media Center set up using the NVDA screen reader, which worked
the best but not perfectly with the setup, both JAWS and Window-Eyes work
well with it. I can schedule recordings of single programs or of series.
I can also rewind live TV just like I would with a DVR. It's also nice
to be able to read the Program Guide in Media Center rather than having
to look up TV listings on the Internet.

definitely be preferred, but if none is available, I would suggest that
the NVDA screen reader would be the best choice for tackling the setup

screen gets rather tedious. NVDA seems to read the setup screens pretty
well, but you do need to know how to get it to speak the necessary
information.

Once set up, you can use your screen reader of choice to access the
Program Guide. I just press Spacebar to get a particular channel in
the Guide to play or pause. Page Up and Page Down can be used to
change channels.

Winamp and Windows 7 64-bit

2012-01-03 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Whether the below problem is a Winamp configuration issue is something I
hope list members will assist me to ascertain.

I have set Winamp as my default audio player and play all audio files
with Winamp except for Windows media files. The problem I am attempting
to solve is that the volume level on any audio file played in Winamp is
significantly lower than it is if I play it in any other player,
specifically windows media player. This is true regardless of the fact
that the Winamp volume is set to 100 per cent. I realize that I could
lower the output volume in Windows media player, but I prefer to use
Winamp especially for mp3 files.

I have examined the Winamp equalizer settings and see nothing to change
to raise the output volume. Incidentally, this machine is a Windows 7
64-bit desktop. Thhis problem is not present on my other machines which
are running XP home.

Thanks for suggestions.

Using Win/7 HP and Jaws 13. If I go to the DVR Player under the
drives listing, I get a message that says I still have 2 files to be
burned to disc. How can I remove these files or clear out the message??

Thanks,

Re: over the air tv on a win 7 machine?

2012-01-03 Thread Gary King

Vicky,
I am using an AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX TV Tuner Kit that I ordered from
amazon.com. It is a USB tuner that I use on my Windows 7 Home Premium
64-bit computer to receive free over-the-air signals with an antenna. I
don't have access to cable TV here. I can get all of my local channels and
one channel from about 70 miles away. If I can get a little better antenna,
I should be able to get the other channels that are available at the same
distance.

Once I got Media Center set up using the NVDA screen reader, which worked
the best but not perfectly with the setup, both JAWS and Window-Eyes work
well with it. I can schedule recordings of single programs or of series. I
can also rewind live TV just like I would with a DVR. It's also nice to be
able to read the Program Guide in Media Center rather than having to look up
TV listings on the Internet.

Gary, This is Vicky. I had thought to work with a TV tuner in my new
Windows 7 computer with Jaws 13, but no go. My ISP, Comcast, says now I
will only be able to work this with one of their cards, which I will be
having installed on Wednesday January 4. This will be replacing my Set Top
Box, so I'll be paying rent on it each month, just like I have done on the
Set Top Box.

What ISP provider do you have? What card are you successfully using on

Mary,
In my previous post, I said that I didn't have any experience setting up
Media Center in Windows 7; now I do. Sighted assistance would definitely
be preferred, but if none is available, I would suggest that the NVDA
screen reader would be the best choice for tackling the setup screens. I
didn't get anything with Window-Eyes. the OCR in JAWS for Windows 13 did
give me some usable text, but having to Use OCR on every screen gets
rather tedious. NVDA seems to read the setup screens pretty well, but you
do need to know how to get it to speak the necessary information.

Once set up, you can use your screen reader of choice to access the
Program Guide. I just press Spacebar to get a particular channel in the
Guide to play or pause. Page Up and Page Down can be used to change
channels.

I'm enjoying having TV on my computer. I'll have to check out the
recording features next.

2012-01-03 Thread David Tanner
I'm interested, but I want something that makes shows on cable accessible
and that seems to be farther away than access to local TV.

I would agree that there is a lot of interest, and I understand how it might
be contriversial on a list primarily geared to the discussion of audio. The
problem is that I wonder how many folks would subscribe to a list that only
delt with discussion of the topic we are talking about. My guess is that it
would take a lot of publicity to get may people.

I think people are interested in this topic like myself. So I beg Tom to

Yeah, this right. You need a TV toner that you can put the Comcast card
into. I forgot about this. But when I talked to them, they said it should
work just fine like it use to. Again, if you all want to go deeper, which
I

would want to, E-mail me off list because when you get into things like
Comcast and the like, I guess we are going beyond the scope of the list.

Re: looking for a good limiter for winamp

2012-01-03 Thread Brett Boyer
I don't believe sqr is a limiter. It's just a crossfader and I don't think
it would do what he's looking for.

I use audiostocker but I don't think u can get it anymore.
Most people are now using the gain features of there media player to
normalize all mp3's individually, by album, folder, and/or playlist.
than it's set no matter what media player you use. I keep telling myself I'm
going to do that but I haven't yet, I take the lazy way out and use
audiostocker.

So that when I am playing MP3 files I don't have to reach for the volume

While going from file to file because some are softer or louder then

I am using windows 7 home if that helps any.
And if anyone can post where to get any of these limiter suggestions.
So I would have an idea where to get them.

Re: over the air tv on a win 7 machine?

2012-01-03 Thread Brett Boyer
Hi. I'm still very interested in this topic and wish we could discuss it
further. I know it's a little out-of-the-scope of things on this list but I
think people are interested in this topic like myself. So I beg Tom to let
us delve in to this. I myself am tired of paying over 130 bucks for these
services for 75 percent of it to be inaccessible. If I'm the only one that
feels this way than I'll bow my head and not mention it again.

Mary,
In my previous post, I said that I didn't have any experience setting up
Media Center in Windows 7; now I do.

Hi Tom,

2. Press ctrl+p for preferences.

3. Arrow to file types.

4. Tab to all and press space.

5. Tab to the restore file associations on start up checkbox and press
space to check it if it is not already checked.

If you find later that there are some file types that you don't want to
default to Winamp, you can individually unselect them in the

There is also the program Winamp Agent which is supposed to stop other

Thanks Barry,

When I pressed insert plus shift plus t while playing a file, winamp says
nothing. That could be a matter of running the correct jaws scripts.

Two things that might matter here: Attempting to create an audio CD, the
source files are MP3 files of various rates. The burning program (Burn
Aware Free) says it'll convert mp3's to CDA's. The resulting files on the
CD are CDA files, but only 1KB and perport to be shortcuts. I moved the
source files away from where the shortcuts might find 'em and they still
play.

I have now converted the source files to .wav and all looks OK. I'll try
burning again. Here comes my fourth coaster to complete a set of four.

Hi Howard,

I don't know anything about the program in question, but make the
following comments.

Whenever you look at any audio CD in Windows Explorer, you will only see
the .cda files. That is why you can't just copy files from
an audio CD to your hard drive. You need to use a CD ripper for that, so
everything up to that point is as expected.

To try to determine why the CD won't play in another CD player, when
playing a track in Winamp, press Insert+shift+t and check the
detail. If the Sample rate is not 44 kHz, then that could be your
problem.

Hi folks,
My system is Windows XP SP3 and JAWS 11. I'm using Burn Aware Free
trying

to burn a music CD.

I go down the list of files and add each of them (35) to the New
Compilation

screen. Then I go back to the first screen that shows the drive letter,
speed (Iselected slowest), and list of files in the compilation. I have
to
select all files then Burn. A box on this screen shows the space and
time
used and remaining. I hit Burn and it runs for quite a long time--maybe
15
minutes--jaws announcing up to 100% for each track. When it's finished,
it

dings and ejects the CD.

Now when I try to play the CD--using Winamp 5.621--it plays fine. When I
look at the CD in My Computer or Windows Explorer, all the files are CDA
and
only 1KB and called shortcuts. When I take the CD to a different CD
player,

it's empty.

Anybody know what step I'm missing?

Thanks
Howard
