Re: AV Receivers with accessible web interface
This has been a good thread, I think; but I heard that Yamaha has a compact surround sound that's 5.1, but it all comes out of one speaker. That's hard to believe, unless all those chanels get wrapped inside the equipment? It has all the settings it has on mine, and I believe it costs $1400. I probably paid $11 or $1200 for mine, and the total wattage is 100. Now Bose has something called Accustomass receiver. That's supposed to have surround sound too. I heard it once, and I thought it sounded pretty good for it's size. It costs $1400. It has the array in the middle front with speakers in it, I assume, and they said on t their website that the sides are Gemstone speakers. I'm not sure what they are. Beelieve it or not. - Original Message - From: Hamit Campos hamitcam...@gmail.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, March 03, 2012 8:25 AM Subject: RE: AV Receivers with accessible web interface Yeah, he's right from what I've heard too. Ah yeah, sound bars. I don't really believe in thoughs. You nead all 5 speakers or 7 speakers there's no way out of it if you want the true thing. Even the companion 5 ones I'm using are just 2 speakers and supposedly they are 5.1. Fake 5.1 is what they are, exaggerated stereo is what it is. more on jul onbeat speaker system
Hi again! What follows are very first impressions of the JBL Onbeat Air speaker system. Unfortunately I’ve only been able to play with the dock connector of the system, the “Airplay” facility is going to require some extra help, in other words someone with some sight. System sounds excellent, well worth the $299.00 purchase price. Plenty of clarity across the spectrum plus plenty of volume. Onbeat requires the installation of an IOS app, when you first plug an IOS device into the dock you’re prompted to install the app. It would seem that parts of this app are inaccessible so that’s what I mean when requiring extra help to set the Onbeat Air up for complete “Airplay”, this is the system which allows the user to “Stream” audio/video from a computer and so on to the Onbeat Speaker system. Onbeat Air comes with a 10 button remote control, I haven’t explored this yet. The system has the best dock connector I’ve seen, its very solid and the IOS feels thus when connected. The IOS device can be orientated into either “Landscape” or “Portrait” mode and that’s a convenient addition to the system. Using the supplied adapter stand its possible to connect an iPad to the system. On the back of the system are a number of sockets and buttons, 1 button turns on and off the power and there are sockets for line-in, power supply, USB in and a video out composite jack for watching movies or TV shows from your IOS device on a television or such. I’ll write more when I’ve been able to get the “Airplay” facility going. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

I wonder if this one would be better sounding than something like the Klipsch IGroove or whatever it's called that I'm thinking about getting one day? - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan d.tretho...@me.com To: PC Audio Discussion List Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2012 9:04 PM Subject: more on jul onbeat speaker system Hi again! Re: more on jul onbeat speaker system
Well, Google gave us some info on this thing. All may not be lost for the airplay. There's a PDF manual, looks like a UK site, if this is the one you have at http://www.google.com/url?q=http://uk.jbl.com/tl_files/catalog//jbl/multimedia/Manuals/OnBeat%2520Air/Owners%2520Manual%2520JBL%2520OnBeat%2520Air%2520English.pdfsa=Uei=AzBUT-N8w9mIAqDivLYGved=0CBoQFjACusg=AFQjCNEmKusQI2Wu89bdF-rYl9huuZ9Icw It states a couple interesting things about the device. It has some kind of connect button you can hold for 3 seconds after you power it up that makes it create it's own wifi network. Just join that with the computer, Iphone, or whatever, think they say it calls the wifi spot JBL on Beat and use the web page http://169.254.1.1 and that will let it have you tell it what your router is that it should join. That UK manual didn't mention a lot about that app you were talking about besides the fact that it's there, nobody really knows what else it does. Now I wish my old bose Speakers had airplay as I have to switch machines to get good sound as the Macbook speakers aren't exactly great. - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan d.tretho...@me.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2012 9:17 PM Subject: Re: more on jul onbeat speaker system Its certainly very nice sounding that's for sure.
