I have a .mkv file and want to create an mp3 out of it. I have tried
Freemake video converter and Format Factory. both start and convert less
  than a minute then quit.

Can anyone suggest a way I can convert this file?

  Thanks,

or use,
Replay Media Catcher 5, Replay Music 5 or Replay Radio to play the file and you
will get it in mp3 format. All by
applian.com
But,
Replay Converter 4.40 is best for what you need.

I put convert mkv mp3 in to startpage and got a lot of results, but don't
know which one works best. There are apparently a lot of converters out
there though. And of course, you could always just play the file and record
it with another program like Total Recorder.

but if in doubt contact ninite.

Hi.

I think people aren't understanding what I'm asking. I know Winamp will
keep working after AOL stops supporting it. I have two things I'm wondering
about.

First, will it still be able to be retrieved from Ninite? When I got the
updater for Winamp from Ninite, and I updated Winamp with it, it reported
that Winamp was being downloaded. Where is this download coming from? If
from the Ninite site, and there isn't any copyright issue with Winamp, then
there should be no problem getting it that way. If Ninite is retrieving the
update from the Winamp site, then it won't work anymore.

Second, does AOL control the database Winamp uses for auto tagging? If not,
then this feature should still work. If AOL does control this database, and
they consider it a service for Winamp, this feature may not work after
December 20.

I hope this explains what I'm wondering about. I got the Winamp installer,
so if I have to reformat this hard drive I still have a good copy to use to
install it. We'll see what happens after December 20.

Have a great day, and don't work too hard.

I subscribe to it but don't use it as much as I thought I would. I did start
a project to download 256k replacements for my lower bitrate files and got
several thousand tracks but I ran out of steam a few months ago. I've got
around 7 tracks so I find the 25000 limit annoying. This especially as
Amazon do a cloud service for a similar price but allow 25 matches. The
only thing is, the Amazon service isn't accessible to Jaws users. The Apple
radio service isn't coming to the UK until next year so I can't comment on
it. For £25 a year the iTunes Match service is still worth it though. I use
Windows and only have one IOS device that being my iPhone.

The last message from Chris got me wondering, what do people think of iTunes
match?

I use it here all the time and have found it very useful and not just for
syncing my music library between 5 computers and 3 IOS devices.

Some time ago I was sampling some LP records, I scanned the covers and
entered the track names into iTunes, Itunes match then provided me with 256
AAC+ versions of the songs i'd sampled, thought that was rather neat and
just showed me that I'd wasted hours of time given that the AAC+ versions
were far better quality than anything I could have done smile.

You can use iTunes Match with iTunes Radio, this service is very similar to
spotify in the way it works.

The basic iTunes Radio is supported by advertising and is free but if you
subscribe to iTunes match the advertising goes away and you can search/play
to your hearts content and purchase where appropriate, if you think your
Match subscription is enough then just search for what you want and add it
to a playlist for playing at your leisure.

Re: Itunes

2013-11-22 Thread Dane Trethowan
I can understand why that is and its probably not a good idea to play about
with your iTunes library with other pieces of software.

Not only does iTunes keep the music organised in separate folders - optional -
but it also keeps a database of what you've downloaded, what you've bought,
what you've imported and so on.

It may be that if other pieces of software start fiddling with things then the
library becomes out of sync according to the iTunes database.

RE: Itunes

2013-11-22 Thread John Gurd
There is, but it's purpose is to bring copies of external music files into
iTunes. It doesn't re-examine files iTunes already knows about but may have
been moved or changed by Windows or other programs, as, for instance, the
Winamp re-scan function does. I think most other players with a library can
do that. The lack of it in iTunes is something that has been complained
about for years by iTunes users. The suspicion is that Apple keeps it that
way to discourage people from using other players and making them stick to
iTunes. Many people lose access to lots of their music files and never
really realise why because of this.

Hi!

Thanks for all the feedback on the review of this radio.

As promised here's the link to the operating instructions manual if anyone
would like to give it a read or do some further research.

As I explained in the review the manual comes on a CD ROM with the radio and
several languages are available on the Manual Disc.

If link doesn't work the first time then try again in a few minutes, file may
still be uploading to Dropbox.

Audio File Converters

2013-11-22 Thread Dane Trethowan
Sorry for those who are already in the know regarding to the Switch Sound File
Converter application, I've been using it on the Windows PC for a while so
decided to try the Mac version. I was impressed with what I found so decided
to buy it.

The converter is totally accessible though in parts I had to route the mouse to
various buttons and use Vo-Shift-Space to press them but not a huge problem.

You can use Switch to extract audio from video files which some on the list may
find extremely useful.

NCH Software are offering bundles of Applications and Utilities on sale right
now so its your big chance to make some huge savings.

One of the other Applications I recommend from this company is the excellent
Prism video File Converter, its the most stable I've seen and offers more
format and settings choices than any other video converter I've used both for
Mac and Windows.

Sorry for those who are already in the know regarding to the Switch Sound
File Converter application, I've been using it on the Windows PC for a
while so decided to try the Mac version. I was impressed with what I
found so decided to buy it.

The converter is totally accessible though in parts I had to route the
mouse to various buttons and use Vo-Shift-Space to press them but not a
huge problem.

You can use Switch to extract audio from video files which some on the
list may find extremely useful.

NCH Software are offering bundles of Applications and Utilities on sale
right now so its your big chance to make some huge savings.

One of the other Applications I recommend from this company is the
excellent Prism video File Converter, its the most stable I've seen and
offers more format and settings choices than any other video converter
I've used both for Mac and Windows.

I'm not sure about that to be honest, I think Prism is just a Video File Format

Hi!

Thanks for all the feedback on the review of this radio.

As promised here's the link to the operating instructions manual if anyone
would like to give it a read or do some further research.

As I explained in the review the manual comes on a CD ROM with the radio
and several languages are available on the Manual Disc.

If link doesn't work the first time then try again in a few minutes, file
may still be uploading to Dropbox.

Big Sound From Small Footprint

2013-11-22 Thread Dane Trethowan
The following will only be of interest to those living outside the U.S. where
DAB and DAB+ radio services are available.

Yep, another Digital Radio but this one is certainly one of the best I've heard
since I started using DAB+ radio sets more than 3 years ago.

Added to the great sound is the great price you should be able to find this
radio for, I found it for under a hundred Australian dollars.

So why is it so cheap? Because the radio sports an older style IOS dock which
is no longer supported by the newer Apple IOS devices. This shouldn't present
too much of a problem, if you have a device that uses the Lightning connector
then you can purchase an adapter or forget about a docking an IOS device
completely but whatever takes your fancy this radio still remains in the
bargain basket.

The Pure Contour is in the shape of a semi circle with speakers either side of
a front panel.

At the top of the panel is the very large display and below this appears to be
a blank piece of plastic but its far from blank, if the left-hand side edge is
pushed then the panel rotates 180 degrees to reveal an IOS 30 pin dock
connector, press the right-and end of the dock and the Dock spins back to
reveal the blank panel, this has to be one of the neatest and koolest docking
arrangements I've ever seen on any device sporting an IOS dock.

There are few buttons on the radio itself and all are located on the top. A
remote controller unit is supplied with the radio which contains controls for
all functions.

Losing the remote control isn't likely given that a magnetic storage cradle is
provided for the controller at the back of the radio.

The Pure Contour has very nice crisp treble with good mid range and bass
performs strongly thanks to the built-in sub-woffer unit. A sub-woofer in
such a small unit comes as a big surprise but its certainly there and does its
job quite well.

Plenty of volume can be had from this radio given its 10 watts RMS per channel
amplifiers so more than enough power to fill a small room.

The unit supports both DAB/DAB+ and FM bands as well as the IOS Dock and an
Aux-in facility for external devices. A coxial digital out and headphones
socket are provided on the back of the radio next to the power input socket.

I've not tried setting alarms on this radio yet - it has two of those - but I
can tell you that programming presets and so forth is a breeze, just use the
up/down buttons to browse to the station you want - using the select button to
tune - and then hold down the Favourites button for 5 seconds. Press the
Favourites button on its own, use up/down and then the select button to tuen
to the selected Favourite in the list.

The radio runs on AC power only thanks to a 2.5 Amp 12 Volt output power
adapter supplied and will not work on batteries so its designed to be used on a
desk, bedside table, kitchen and so on.

Is there anything I don't like about this radio? Very little and its well
recommended given its excellent sound out of its small footprint, the excellent
quality that Pure radios are known for and the excellent price these radios can
now be purchased for.

No we don't, we use the DAB+ standard which uses AAC+ instead of MP3 however
this radio will work on both DAB and DAB+ standards, most radios do these days.

on a desk, bedside table, kitchen and so on.

Is there anything I don't like about this radio? Very little and its well
recommended given its excellent sound out of its small footprint, the
excellent quality that Pure radios are known for and the excellent price
these radios can now be purchased for.

RE: Big Sound From Small Footprint

2013-11-22 Thread Dave Marthouse
Dane,

This brings up another question. What frequencies are used for DAB+? I
know in the uk the muxes are from 216 through 230mHZ.

No we don't, we use the DAB+ standard which uses AAC+ instead of MP3 however
this radio will work on both DAB and DAB+ standards, most radios do these
days.

The following will only be of interest to those living outside the U.S.
where DAB and DAB+ radio services are available.

Yep, another Digital Radio but this one is certainly one of the best
I've heard since I started using DAB+ radio sets more than 3 years ago.

Added to the great sound is the great price you should be able to find
this radio for, I found it for under a hundred Australian dollars.

So why is it so cheap? Because the radio sports an older style IOS
dock which is no longer supported by the newer Apple IOS devices.
This shouldn't present too much of a problem, if you have a device
that uses the Lightning connector then you can purchase an adapter or
forget about a docking an IOS device completely but whatever takes
your fancy this radio still remains in the bargain basket.

The Pure Contour is in the shape of a semi circle with speakers either
 side of a front panel.

At the top of the panel is the very large display and below this
appears to be a blank piece of plastic but its far from blank, if the
left-hand side edge is pushed then the panel rotates 180 degrees to
reveal an IOS 30 pin dock connector, press the right-and end of the
dock and the Dock spins back to reveal the blank panel, this has to be
one of the neatest and koolest docking arrangements I've ever seen on any
device sporting an IOS dock.

There are few buttons on the radio itself and all are located on the
top. A remote controller unit is supplied with the radio which
 contains controls for all functions.

Losing the remote control isn't likely given that a magnetic storage
cradle is provided for the controller at the back of the radio.

The Pure Contour has very nice crisp treble with good mid range and bass
performs strongly thanks to the built-in sub-woffer unit. A sub-woofer
in
such a small unit comes as a big surprise but its certainly there and
 does its job quite well.

Plenty of volume can be had from this radio given its 10 watts RMS per
channel amplifiers so more than enough power to fill a small room.

The unit supports both DAB/DAB+ and FM bands as well as the IOS Dock
and an Aux-in facility for external devices. A coxial digital out and
headphones socket are provided on the back of the radio next to the power
input socket.

I've not tried setting alarms on this radio yet - it has two of those
 - but I can tell you that programming presets and so forth is a
breeze, just use the up/down buttons to browse to the station you want
 - using the select button to tune - and then hold down the Favourites
button for 5 seconds.
Press the Favourites button on its own, use up/down and then the
select button to tuen to the selected Favourite in the list.

The radio runs on AC power only thanks to a 2.5 Amp 12 Volt output
power adapter supplied and will not work on batteries so its designed
to be used on a desk, bedside table, kitchen and so on.

2013-11-22 Thread Dane Trethowan
I'd have to look up specs to find exact frequency's but I think ours are lower
than yours but only slightly so I think all DAB+/DAB radios cover all the
frequency's you've mentioned as well as some higher and lower in that part of
the spectrum.

Only exception to this rul I've found is the Yamaha T500D DAB/DAB+ tuner I
have, not only does it cover the standard frequency's we know of but it also
covers some in the @.0GHZ range so that must be for another standard in another
country or part of the world, I'll dish up the specs for the Contour when I get
some time and post them.

2013-11-22 Thread Dave Marthouse
Ok Dane I understand. I'm not in the UK. I'm in the US and I'm
academically interested in digital radio. The system we use here in the US
is known as IBOC (in band on channel). It rides adjacent to our standard
am/fm signals. It's been on-line here for about a decade or so and in my
opinion it's a non-starter.
